If you want to save a feat, you could get a familiar with an archetype. Mauler familiars take the regular base familiars, and give them strength boosts instead of int boosts, and gives them the ability to scale up to medium at level 3 (with some nice str boosts along with it).
That could easily serve as a flank buddy.

Goat, or Wallaby, requires no Improved Familiar feat, has a really respectable base STR score (for a familiar) to go with Mauler, and can be ridden by a Small PC with the Undersized Mount feat.
Note that Improved Familiars cannot benefit from any of the Familiar Archetypes.

the familiar archetypes are available on d20pfsrd (just click that link)
it really depends on what kind of rogue you are... if you're looking for sneak attack the mauler advice is good; if you're more scout/infiltrator take one that's sneaky and grants a stealth bonus (cat maybe); if you cover a lot of utility stuff (or just want to be more effective) pick up improved familiar and grab one who can use wands (like the faerie dragon).

I'd say the only familiar suggestion rouges get is to not be a rouge. Eh? EH? XD
Seriously though, raccoon would be cool as they are already nature's ninja. Perhaps a flying squirrel? These would be my picks. You could also have a Penguin and name him Gunther! Although that would probably work better for an ice wizard...
