Optimizing a Half-Orc Fell Rider Cavalier

Advice

Stats before the floating +2 are 18, 16, 14, 14, 12, 12 arranged however we see fit. Starting at 6th level, the character is a Half-Orc with Racial Heritage(Hobgoblin) to allow him access to the Fell Rider Cavalier archetype. I envision him as sort of a mix between Azog the Defiler meets Witch King of Angmar meets freedom fighter worshipper of Cayden Cailaen. Young, very attractive with a well manicured goatee and mustache, hair kept short and styled, but despite his good looks he can't remove the tribal scars from his parentage(Orc father) or the missing eye from his time enslaved by Hobgoblins. He believes freedom should be attained by striking fear into those who would oppress others, riding into battle on his mighty warmount with black jagged-edged spiked armor and cutting an image of viciousness.

I'm assuming a lance would be the best weapon choice for the character but hinestly I'd like to use something else if there is a better option. I have yet to decide on what mount I would like to have for the character but ideally I would like a Dire Hyena or Large Worg or something similar to give him even more of a brutal aspect. What would be the best ways to maximize his combat potential as well as his intimidation potential. I would like this character to be brutal and vicious one moment, terrifying his enemies, and then smiling and kind the next, despite his looks.

Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Hobgoblins get a very nice racial favored class options to intimidate. You could swing an intimidate based build pretty easily. Fell rider even supports this. I think you can even grab gendarme with it, so you can trade the generally not very useful tactician feats away.

Don't forget to take chained challenge feat ASAP. As for orders, since you actually seem to want to be mounted, order of the sword is great for mounted combat. Order of the Cockatrice however gets some nice bonuses against demoralized foes.

So, the above is my build with your info. I would suggest a wyrwood lance if you are allowed.

The 1600 remaining GP are for saddle, tack, and camping gear.

Cockatrice seems to go best with your concept. The feats are pretty straight forward, you will probably want Spirited Charge, so . . . took the chain to get there. Nothing fancy

Following ~16k WBL, I put both you and the horse in Mithral Kikko for the sake of no armor check penalty.

On a Spirited Charge, your damage will be pretty impressive. Assuming both attacks hit, you will do a minimum of 66 damage, assuming you roll 6 1's.

When you charge, you have a base of +16. None too shabby since the target DC is relatively fixed at not usually more than 10 + your level +3 ish for wis = 19.

Your horse could have taken outflank with you, but that can come later if you ever plan on attacking un-mounted.

There are some nice horseshoes out there, so might want to save up for some.

I'd really like to pursue the Demoralizing Lash/Taskmaster/Terrorizing Display feat chain, probably with a Light Flail as the weapon of choice. Any recommendations on feats or styles that would mesh well with that?

Demoralizing lash, and by extension, terrorizing display are NPC-tier feats. Assuming everyone will be at the same level, it would either plain not work on your party, or would conflict with other morale buffs (heroism, etc).

You probably want Cornugon smash and Hurtful, possibly combining it with Bullying blow (retrain later when you get cornugon), and Shatter Defenses.

Ahhh, I didn't know that those feats were NPC-use mainly. Demoralizing Lash seems decent but I figure I would be better served with a lance for that extra damage.

My DM is allowing me to take an Owlbear as a mount, though I'm not allowed to start advancing it until 8th level and basically am counting as a Cavalier -1 for my "Animal Companion" advancement, but I love the idea of this brute charging into battle atop an Owlbear and striking fear into the enemy.
