Help decide on a monk build for giantslayer

Advice

Silver Crusade

Hey folks! Here to ask for some input and thoughts on figuring out what I want to do with this monk.

Race- Orc or half orc. Those are the limits, 25pt buy.

What I have narrowed it down to- half-orc , orphaned by giants and "adopted" by a shaman, to everyone's surprise he still lives, and while his strength is somewhat less than his half-brothers, he uses his wisdom and insight to survive and thrive in the tribe.

Want to emphasis the premise of showing his "orc" by literally beating down his opponents bare-handed. So I'd ask to stick with unarmed strikes/maneuvers.

Martial artist with possibility of brawler 3- what DR?

Maneuver Master (judo master)- Tripping god, can trip/throw giants with relative ease. Dirty trick as secondary maneuver.

Master of many styles 2/brawler X- full on beat down?

Far strike monk- While nor "unarmed" I am curious to this archetype and will consider it. Specifically due to the fact that giants have... quite a bit of reach.

The Monk of the Sacred Mountain archetype seems to fit well thematically. Also, the Ironskin Monk if your GM will let you use an archetype from a different race.

Well, I would usually try to go by what the other members of the team are building. If you already have 2-3 beatsticks, I'd probably go with Maneuver Master. If not, I'd go with Master of Many Styles/Brawler, and just beat the tar out of everything.

Yes. Remember with maneuvers unless you have a steady source of getting big its harder to accomplish on giants. But Grapple does not have a size restriction. I personally like Trip since it can be done as part of a flurry or any attack really. Find a way to get enlarge when you need it and you will be just fine making giants fall down.

Here is a build I've used successfully (though I didn't need to be enlarged in that campaign.)

Spoiler:
Brawler 2/ Master of many style monk 2/ Brawler Finish
1: Combat expertise
H:Improved Trip
2:Combat reflexes
(Master of many style Levels)
3:Dragon Style
3:Pummeling Style
4:Pummeling Charge
(back to brawler)
5:Vicious Stomp
7:Greater Trip
7:Dragon Ferocity
9:Pummeling Bully (because I'm sick of wasting MF on this feat)
10:Iron Will
11:Improved Critical (if even 1 of your pummeling strikes crit they ALL crit)

Remember that Monk of the Iron Mountain can go with Master of many styles so you can choose Evasion Versus Toughness. And don't forget that even tho they have amazing Fort saves the DM can still roll a 1 and stunning fist/knockout work.

Building for Snake Style might be a good idea in this AP. Turn the giants' AoO's against them.

looking over the brawler, I have to wonder what paizo was thinking.. It all but nullifies The Martial Artist :/

Silver Crusade

here is a martial artist I was thinking of.. Can't decide to go Dex or Str based-

If I went dex I could just swap Dex and Str around for +2 ac and reflex save.. (could be nice for rolling dodge)

will be taking a 1 level dip into unarmed fighter for a free style feat either way. Seriously Halp :3

They were thinking "Let's give everybody the full BaB, d10 HD Martial Artist everyone was clamoring for".

Sohei are rather good as well, even if they are traditionally thought of as the weapon using ones.

With the switch to armor, the sohei open up two item slots they are well suited to take advantage of- the hand slot and the armor slot.

Since they do not need to use the hand slot for bracers of armor, they can instead grab gloves of dueling. This is because they have weapon training, and it satisfies the requirements to count as weapon training. So that is an exta +2 to attack and damage on top of their usual +1-+3.

After that, their use of the armor slot puts them in the same sweet spot as brawlers- they can use brawling armor for another +2 to attack and damage.

Combined, a sohei can see a +7 to attack and damage that other monks will never see (more realistically, it will be what? +5? for the AP, depending on level limits). That is enough that their hits are doing fairly well, even with standard action attacks (or course...why suffer those when you can pummel?). It is certainly a fair damage alternative to a brawler.
