Trial of fire and acid + burning spell lethality

Rules Questions

The spell "Trial of fire and acid", originating from the game monster codex
produces a continuous damage source over the span of the caster's level in rounds. This is not an argument about the spell's strengths and weaknesses as I'm well aware that a create water orison is enough to end the effect. However, for a martial character to be affected by this spell coupled with the metamagic feat "Burning spell" am I reading the feat correctly that I can add damage for every round the affected characters is damaged?
Three possible scenarios then if we want to cover all grounds.

Scen1:
I.e Fighter gets hit by a Burning Trial of fire and acid from a level 8 wizard.
round 1: fighter is dealt 7 damage from spell.
round 2: fighter recieves damage from burn effect = actual spell lvl *2 = 6 + 6 spell damage
Round 3: Figher recieves Burn 6 dmg + 7 spell dmg and so on...

OR

Scen2:
Round 1: Fighter recieves Spell dmg 7.
Round 2: Fighter recieves Burn 6 + spell dmg 6
Round 3: Fighter is no longer affected by burning spell (but still coated in fire and acid) 7 spell dmg.

OR

Scen3:
Burning damage doesn't apply until after the spell effect has ended (Which shouldn't be the case since the meta feat clearly says it happens the next round.

I want to believe in the 1st Scenario but eh, who am I to say?

I believe it's scenario 1. The target takes damage, then the next round takes more damage and 6 additional points of damage from Burning Spell.
