Check out the Guide to Organized Play for information about what makes Pathfinder Society different from just playing Pathfinder normally (what it looks like you've been doing). The Additional Resources document has some important information about what things are legal in Pathfinder Society that may or may not have been legal with you as the GM. Finally, a good place to look for Online Play games is the Pathfinder Society Online Collective where people will often post games that occur in realtime using a Virtual Tabletop such as Roll20 and Google Hangouts as a voice chat. If you are more interested in the Play by Post format, several Pathfinder Society and regular Pathfinder games are recruited here.

This forum here is a collection of announcement and recruitment threads for PFS online play. DrParty06 gave you most of the other information you need.
This forum you are in now, the Faction Talk, is usually threads of in-character, unstructured, light-hearted posts that have no actual play significance. Just people posting something from their characters as they have time and inclination.

Thank you this is a great help. One last question that's been bothering me, I'm on an android phone. It's my only link to the internet, a fact I am working at changing. Is it practical or even possible to be apart of the Pathfinder society online and participate in games when one is doing everything on a phone

There are two ways to play online. Play by post (PbP) which is played on forums with posts required by certain times. I have heard that one post a day is a way it is used. They other is Virtual Table Top, which is like teleconferencing with the battlefield as one window. I haven't actually done this one, but it is supposed to be real time.
For your phone, PbP should be no more difficult than using the forums. On the other hand, I don't see how VTT could work. But, contact Jesse Davis or other online venture officers to get the real scoop.

Also, I know you mentioned wanting to do online play, additionally I would mention that many college towns or colleges themselves also have organized play which is a nice way to meet people in whatever town you are going to be in. If you look for the Venture Officer on this list, you may be able to find a game near where you're headed (if you want). (I offer this as a resource as I myself am in a college town). Best of luck finding a format that suits you, your needs, and your schedule.
