Druid Spell Preperation

Rules Questions

Hello i got a Question about the Spell Preperation of Druids..

How does it work?!

If i can cast 4 level 1 Spells per day..

How many spells can i prepare?

4 with the use of 1..

or 1 with 4 uses?

I´m no really getting it.

The answer is both.

You prepare your spells (usually at the beginning of the day) on a one for one basis.

For example if you have 4 level 1 spells/day you can can prepare: entangle, shillelagh, hydraulic push and cure light wounds. When you prepare spells this way you only get to cast each of those spells once. That is to say you cannot "trade" your entangle for another casting of cure light wounds.

Alternatively you could choose to prepare: Shillelagh, hydraulic push and cure lights wounds, cure light wounds. You still can only cast each spell once, the difference is you have chosen to prepare one spell twice.

Finally there is a third option. You can choose to prepare only some (or none) of your spells, leaving a slot open for later. As the above example you could prepare: shillelagh, hydraulic push and cure light wounds (leaving the fourth slot open). At any point during the day you can choose to prepare a spell in that last slot by spending the appropriate amount of time (varies). This means that if you need another casting of cure light wounds you can prepare it but if you'd rather prepare another spell you are still free to do so. The only drawback is that you need time (and a quiet place free of distractions) to do so.

Does that help?

The beginning of the Core Rulebook's Magic Chapter should be of some help, too.

Perfect! Thank you so much! We recently discovered an error in the way we were playing it and wanted to get sure we get it right this time. Feel hugged! Thanks!
