Eagle shaman Druids with eagle domain.

Advice

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think this is a legal choice. probably because the domain didn't come out until after the shaman. If it were to be allowed, do you feel it would be relatively ok power-wise?

Unfortunately this is not a legal choice. I don't think the Eagle Domain is too strong as the great powers are balanced by an ok spell list.

It is not a listed choice in the eagle shaman archetype, because, as you said it didn't exist when that archetype was published. I don't know that I would go so far as to say it wasn't a 'legal' choice though.

Unless some errata comes out for the archetype you can't use it for PFS I would imagine, but it absolutely fits with the theme of the Eagle Shaman and their is text regarding the animal domains that make it clear they can substitute for listed domains, even for clerics as long as the portfolio matches.

I don't think many home GMs would have an issue with it, and I am fairly sure that if Paizo were to go to the bother of issuing errata for this archetype (probably unlikely) they would rule that way as well, and allow it.

So while it isn't listed as one of the choices, it thematically fits (better than any of them in fact) and should probably be considered a viable substitute.

From the description of animal domains:

Quote:
Presented below are rules for animal and terrain domains—domains for druids whose focus is more specific than the Animal, Plant, Weather, or elemental domains. A druid with the nature’s bond ability can choose an animal domain or terrain domain listed here instead of one of the standard domains. Just like cleric domains, animal and terrain domains have granted powers and domain spells, and a druid who selects an animal or terrain domain gains a domain spell slot at each level. A druid who worships a deity (as opposed to nature in general) cannot select an animal or terrain domain that contradicts or is outside of the portfolio of her deity.

(Emphasis mine.) Eagle Shaman Druid still has the Nature's Bond ability, and the overall theme of the archetype most definitely fits the domain. I really don't see anything wrong here, from a legalistic standpoint or a thematic one. Other than possible gripes over the fact that you'll have a familiar and an animal companion on the same character, I can't really think of anything terribly upsetting from a game balance perspective either - and even that I find perfectly acceptable.

You are mostly right Azoriel imho, except for the portion in bold print.

A druid gets a domain or an animal companion, not both. So an eagle shaman will have a domain, and if its eagle will have a hawk familiar, or an animal companion that must be an eagle. Not both.

Ah, I missed that - thanks for the correction!

That is rather adult of you Azoriel. :)

Has Azoriel acted immature in the past?

Well. undoubtedly... I was younger at one point, you know. ;)

It seems to me that it would work alright. The Eagle Shaman still has the Nature Bond class feature. The animal and terrain domains in UM say "A druid with the nature’s bond ability can choose an animal domain or terrain domain listed here instead of one of the standard domains." The Eagle Shaman's Nature Bond feature says "If choosing a domain, the eagle shaman must choose from the Air, Animal, Nobility, and Weather domains." These, then, would be the 'standard domains' for the Eagle Shaman.
