[They Flying Pincushion Projects] Into the Breach: Cavalier

Product Discussion

The Flying Pincushion Projects is excited to announce the release of its latest product, Into the Breach: The Cavalier.

This look at the popular base class features 11 new archetypes (from the airborne knight to the spirit rider), 1 alternate base class (the sword-sworn troubador), 3 prestige classes (the fey warden, obsidian knight and rime reaver), the new Order of the Bow, and new gear for your riders and mounts.

Even better, we want to put our money where our mouth is, so we're offering a handful of FREE copies to anyone who will post a review of the book. We're excited to see what you all think about the most recent addition to the Into the Breach line of books. Just post here or send me a PM to let me know you're interested, and we'll get you a copy in return for promising to post a review.

I've posted a review on every other Into the Breach product so far (and am on a reviewing spree), but have spent my third party budget for now, so I wouldn't mind a copy of The Cavalier to review.

I'd gladly post a review in exchange for a free copy.

The Fey Warden and Order of the Bow sound magnificent. If you'll take a chance on someone who's just begun dipping her toes into reviewing, I'd love a copy.

Sure. I'm up for reviewing. I liked Flaming Crab Games Cavalier book, so I'd be interested to see this.

I should review that FCG one too...

And the Flying Pincushion Witch book I still owe a review for...

And and and.... ;P

For the record we are also willing to exchange honest review for honest review... I don't pull many punches though (see Superstar boards Good, Bad, and Ugly reviews)

sent for the 2 emails I've gotten thus far

I am the lead on Into the Breach: the Cavalier over at TFPG, and am looking forward to seeing the reviews! Put allot of time and effort into this newest offering, I hope that shines through. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read and review our material.

I'm on a reviewing-spree but I won't be able to get to it until tonight as I'm not home yet to download it. (Reviewing hard copies I already have on me.)

No worries Malwing, the effort is appreciated

Review up. I had a much longer and much more detailed review that the site ate so I'm up for specific questions about what I thought.

Thanks, Mal.

I did the charioteer, so I'd love to hear what you thought of it. I think it was in fact the first archetype I ever wrote (definitely one of the first three), though obviously it got some edits from that original version.

The review is much appreciated, had a few nightmares bout one and two stars last night, but I feel bloody great now. While I can take some of the credit for the book, I have to farm most of it out to our awesome writing staff, and keen eyed editing from Jacob.

Thanks for the stars, I was responsible for the Sword Sworn Troubadour and would love to hear your feedback on it!

With the Charioteer I don't see it taken very often given how some players feel about mounts and going into dungeons. For what it does when it can use the chariot is very nice. I'm reminded of deeds despite them not relying on a pool of points.

In my original review I described the Sword Sworn Troubadour as a weird martial Bard. It seemed very unCavalier-like but otherwise a very functioning class that satisfies what a military bard would look like without the baggage of spells and other weird abilities that don't add to the concept by turning a performance into a kind of Tactician-like ability. It fills a huge gap in player concepts and inspires character builds just by reading it.

Curious about your take on the Lord (or lady) in Burlap and Crudus Domitor, as those happen to be the bits that I wrote for the book.

For me I saw the Lord/Lady in Burlap to be a bit NPC only. PCs get rich enough for the concept to not hold for long and some of the abilities revolve around simple weapons and farm tools. (Cant wait to enchant my pitchfork) Ultimately the archetypes comes off as a Super Commoner that only the silliest players will pick up but its fully functioning and flavorful which is nice.

The Crudus Domitor I see as a bit NPC only because I don't normally have evil campaigns. People often see Cavaliers as mundane Paladins so I guess Crudus Domitor would be the mundane Anit-Paladin. When I realized this the archetype became that much more hilarious(the No Escape ability= "Get back here boy, I got somfin for ya!")and I'm already thinking of a hobgoblin NPC that talks like Space Merle (Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy) to be just this recurring evil knight that has fun being evil and inspiring campaign traits I think makes something a success.

Thanks for the further info sir!

Oddly enough, Crudus Domitor came about because of the scene in Game of Thrones where the Hound rides down Aria's friend with his horse.

Also bonus points for the space Merle ref..

Mal, I can see that, though I think I was actually trying to solve that problem a little bit. My thought was this way you're not tied to a single mount, but rather can jump into any chariot you have available. Thus, if you don't want to take one into a dungeon, you can just get another one when you leave the dungeon, instead of having the problem of what to do with your mount.

(I figured someone playing this class would sink some money into some sort of magical chariot token/figurine that they could pull out as needed, as well.)

I'm still reading this, but I just wanted to check in and say that the Briar Knight is amazing.

Thanks, that was a nice boost this a.m.

Happy to have lifted spirits. I'm also loving the hell out of the mounted brigand; a few of these guys will definitely be making it into my Kingmaker campaign as the Stag Lord's minions!

Good use of them, I'd suggest 4 of them with order of the bow as outriders patrolling around the fort (they's be terrible in the fort.)

Having played a Kingmaker campaign (with GM_solspiral as the ahem..GM) I know that mounted brigands would make the fort encounter much more interesting.

To be fair I took over in book 2 rivers run red... Trust me when I say my Stag Lord's fort would have been scarier.

If you have any advice, I'd be glad to hear it. I want to put the fear of God into my players :p

I'm glad you like my mounted brigand. It was the first thing I wrote for Flying Pincushion and my first published archetype. I also wrote order of the bow, and can confirm that they were designed to work well together (but also work well separately).

Excellent work, Morphemic. I'll be sure to use both of them together to harass my players!

Just posted my four-star review here and on drivethrurpg. Having a bit of trouble doing so on d20pfsrd.com; I'll try again when I'm back at my desktop in a few days.

Thanks, glad you dug the Rime Reaver too. I'm having a heck of a time playtesting it.

It won me over at "large-sized polar bear mount". To me, it doesn't seem quite as solid as the other prestige classes, but the bear mount and adamantine ice are simply cool, and I can always get behind cool.
