How should I make a footpad(unmounted highwayman).

Advice

Liberty's Edge

Considering the variable nature of pathfinders archetypes, classes and variable feats, I was wondering what I would need to do to create a footpad(or highwayman). My first instinct was to try and build a swashbuckler or gunslinger, but I am still confused about how to incorporate the other elements of the character style(namely the pistols or rapier) into the character build. Should I go swashbuckler and pickup amateur gunslinger or should I go gunslinger and pickup weapon proficiency for rapier and build that way into it?

Any thoughts or ideas?

For the footpad, are you wanting gun and rapier use to be a primary part of your flavor? Usually when I think of a footpad or a thug or something I think of a guy with a big ol' club or other nasty thug weapon. There is the Bandit rogue archetype that has surprise round and demoralize abilities.

If anything, I'd take a look at making it a slayer or ranger archetype. Both of those have abilities that let them do ambushes and favored terrains. A footpad most certainly would have a relatively small geographic area that they plague.

Flagged for being in wrong forum.

As there is no homebrew here, and a discussion of builds using existing classes, this should go in Advice.

You will get waaaay more traction there.

I'm also thinking you mean something other than footpad.

Some random ideas:

Weapons: clubs or sap as weapons
Feats sap adept, sap master, enforcer, shatter defenses

Classes:
Rogue, vanilla or with bandit archetype (rural, build a brute rogue with high str)
Slayer with cutthroat archetype (more urban)
Barbarian with Brutal Pugilist and/or Urban Barbarian archetype
Brawler
Ranger with Guide or Skirmisher archetype
multiclass mix and match

Now a Highwayman otoh, that'd be the rapier wielding, gun toting guy though imo usually on a horse. He's similar to pirate and or duelist concepts, with a bit more rural stuff. You need to decide if you want to truly dual wield a pistol and sword or make a switch hitter.

Weapons: Pistol(s) and sword

Feats: There's Sword and Pistol feats though it is not so good. TWF, or just user them alternately. Amateur Gunslinger, Amateur Swashbuckler as needed. Deadly Aim. Point Blank Shot. Rapier deulist feats

Equipment: Use several pistols instead of reload.

Classes:
Swashbuckler corsair (no really), picaroon, maybe mysterious avenger
Gunslinger Pistolero
Fighter plain or maybe cad, free hand, mobile archetype
Cavalier Daring Champion
multiclass mix and match and maybe add a rogue dip (rake or swashbuckler archetype) or bard (arcane duelist, buccaneer) or maybe not
Maybe Duelist prestige class.

BTW the Hooded Champion Ranger is a bow-using highwayman, but those also could be rangers or archers fighters.

Liberty's Edge

A Highwayman and a foot pad could be very similar, since a Footpad in the Georgian times did use a pistol to hold up stage coaches. But in the case of focusing it better, i would say highwayman would be closer in concept to what i am going for. Does not start with a horse, though I believe that won't take that long to get one. As for the character, i would say that chaotic neutral, but as a cavalier style picaresque figure, Charming and intimidating at the same time.
