Low level spell combos

Advice

I am trying to think of things that would have much larger impact on the world/story/combat then just two 2 spells at random. I want to limit it to 2nd level and lower spells. It is is not a problem if they come from different classes.

My ideas so far
Levitate+ant haul=crane
Add enlarge person for greater effect.
This is not that useful in combat can make construction much easier.

Levitate+glide=limited flight at 3rd level.
This will make crossing a valley rather simple. Also allows a bombing runs over a village.

air bubble+slip stream=much easier underwater adventures.
Sure this one has been thought of before but is worth mentioning.

Create Pit + Hydraulic Shove (or a bull's rush maneuver, or anything else that pushes)

Doug M.

Soften Earth & Stone with Expeditious Excavation: Creating the foundation for your home/castle on easy mode.

That would make digging through stone much easier. I wonder how many many hours it takes to dig out a 5 foot cube of stone.

Well, those two spells would make it take 12 seconds, so I'm confident that manual means would be significantly longer :P

My favorite spell combo is invisibility > expeditious retreat. My second favorite spell combo is color spray + yelling at the fighter to coup de grace that suckah.

...Well, it's true.

Create Pit + Silent Image is great, too. Have Levitate yourself to float over the nasty spot.

This isn't a spell combo, but Sculpt Corpse would be GREAT in the hands of bounty hunters and assassins. "See? We killed twenty orcs!" "Yes, that's Gnashtooth, the fearsome gnoll warrior." "Yes, I totally betrayed my best friend and brought his carcass here to you. Why do you find this at all suspicious?" That could have some... interesting ramifications.

Web + Burning Hands, the poor man's fireball.

Spark + Pyrotechnics. You always have a flame source for Pyro with this cantrip.

Create pit and silent image. That is really nasty.

When one falls in make a bluff check to convince others that you caused the earth swallow him up.

The issue with EE and soften earth is how many times per day you can cast it. If you can remove a 5x5x10 foot area of stone each day how does that compare to what a man with a pick can do. I would guess it to be more.

Good stuff Imbcitus.

Web + burning hands. This one begs for familiar with a wand.

Now just put the web in created pit covered by a silent image.

My issue with Hydraulic Shove is that in never seams to work. Pushing folks into pits it always nice though.

This isn't a combination, but I've always thought that a large enough group of spontaneous divine casters with Create Water could render a drought meaningless in a farming community.

A single 5th lvl Oracle can spew out 60 gallons per minute until exhaustion overtakes him. Five working together could completely fill an Olympic sized swimming pool in a little over four days working 8 hours per day (2,500 cubic meters of water).

Actually, they couldn't fill a pool, as the water disappears after 24 hours.

Invisibility + Ventriloquism. Be the voice that alternately taunts and informs the PCs.

That never really gets old.

I've seen groups of divine casters.. flood a small cave/dungeon with create water over the whole day.

Hilarious but probably something people would call an abuse of cantrips.

They wanted someoen to make it into poison water as well but didn't have that spell off hand.

Create pit + Summon swarm.

Look at me. I'm a wizard.
Look at you. You are in a pit.
Now look at me. Now back to you,
the pit is full of spiders.

comedy aside nothing that is low level enough to be bothered by a swarm will be able to manage the climb rolls to get out of the pit while taking swarm damage. If the GM starts saying that the spiders should die from the fall then switch to bats.

If you have a diamond pick it's only like three hits.

Create pit works well with just anything you put in a pit.

How does a 3rd level character dig a 5 foot cube of stone in 3 hits?

It has 900 HP and hardness of 8. Also realize that A DM is fully within his rights to say your weapon is the wrong type to damage a wall. Picks would work but swords and axes will dull after a few hits and a dagger will be useless.

Mark Hoover was making a Minecraft joke. At least I think it was Minecraft Could have been Starbound or Terraria or Don't starve or something I have simply never heard of.

Good joke in any case though.

Ahh, I never got into that.

It wouldn't go over my head i would catch it.

Terraria/starbound is fun on a bun. but Minecraft isn't my cup of tea.
unrelated of course.

Well if you fell in a pit everything would go over your head.

Restore corpse + purify food and drink..just in case.
Add in some edible animal and you're a carnivores Jesus on the desert.

Create water + freezing ray. Add in some form and you've got a steady supply of ammo, albeit fragile.

Levitate + Jump - flight assisted leaps

Levitate + Mage Hand - slow and steady flight

Levitate + Breeze - hoist the mainsail, now you're an airship

Grease + Hydraulic Push - have a nice fall, see you in the spring

Big groups and a very small dungeon i bet?

Scarab Sages

True Strike + Blade Lash. When you absolutely, positively need to trip something untrippable.

Ghost sound + Light + Mage hand + Small rock. DISTRACTION!

Nice use cantrips that are good on their own.

Boots of levitation and breeze would allow for slow but long flights. Mage hand would be extra slow but would work.

Two low level spells I love for flexible utility:

Floating Disk - long lasting way to haul a lot - but consider putting your ranged attacker on it. now she follows you wherever you move without her actually using a move action....

Mount - much much longer lasting than low level summons. Whether cast directly or from a scroll can help provide cover and road bumps if summoned in a narrow space and put between you and oncoming enemies.

Ant Haul - my gnome dragon disciple loves this spell - really long lasting and he can clear dear trolls by himself (in many cases by just lifting them up directly)

Oh and Prestidigitation has a ton of out of combat utilities - impress your contacts with how great their food and wine tastes, clean up your party after combat (no more fresh blood when trying to walk down a city street) etc. mostly flavor over mechanical benefits but a really fun spell.

Floating disk and some wooden walls with arrow slits gives nice cover the archer.

True Strike & Pilfering Hand/Blade Lash/Thunder Stomp = When you gotta Disarm/Steal/Trip that guy.

Spectral Hand & Mage Armor = when the pesky incorporeal creature keeps popping in/out of the walls/floor. Stops them cold. Not sure if you could use Spectral Hand to cast it though, but Mage Armor can be cast on incorporeal foes if you're not afraid to touch them.

Oh yes, Mount. Or as one of my players used to call it: Wall of Flesh.

Floating Disk: got flying familiar? Does it have Share Spells? Now you have cheap flight!

Another nice one to do with cantrips: Arcane Mark + Detect Magic. If you're afraid of villains getting away, turning invisible or whatever, just cast these 2. When you mark them it doesn't matter if you make the mark visible or not; when you cast Detect Magic it makes the mark appear.

Another one to do with a familiar: Prestidigitation + any other spell. Step 1: have a familiar that can cast the spell. Step 2: the familiar takes a Readied Action for when you cast your spell. Step 3: the familiar adds special effects to your spell. I had a guy change his Magic Missile spell this way into skulls of visible eldritch force that, upon impact cackled like a Scooby Doo villain.

Haunted Fey Aspect + Prestidigitation: convince them you're a ghost

Mage Armor + shield: for a minute you're darn near unhittable at low levels (+6 AC)

Mage Hand + Open/Close: manipulate a light object that needs to be opened directly into the path of your opponent, then open it. Fun for potions, flasks of oil or acid, a 5# sack of rocks, etc

Animate Rope + Glue Seal: a rope covered in extremely sticky stuff grapples you!

floating disk however I think has a limitation that it can only be a little bit off the ground - but still a really useful spell for a low level spell as it has a huge variety of uses and as a player (and a DM) I love spells that reward creativity - instead of yet another blast spell (or buff etc) it is nice to have a few spells that have utility in and out of combat (floating disk in combat is more useful that most people give it credit for being)

This involves a 3rd level spell, and has been mentioned in other threads, but it's theoretically so awesome that I must share.

Hideous laughter + aqueous orb. Most rule it a similar mechanic to the spell suffocate.

Grease + Irresistible Dance: Electric Boogaloo

good ones.

See Invisibility + Glitterdust - now not just the wizard using See Invisibility can see the invisible creatures/objects

Low level spells mainly...

Beguiling Gift & Burning Disarm (especially if the gift is flammable... might need 2 casters however...)

Mage Armour, Shield, Pro vs Evil plus any number of higher level spell like Blur or Displacement & compel hostility. Good for a defensively tough build who has 'big hitter' companions. Good tactic for DM's too - and yes, I've used this as a DM.

Tap Inner Beauty, Seducer's Eyes and Timely Intervention + Intimidate (okay Intimidate not a spell but the point is these spells can boost the skill if needed)and yes, I've used this as a DM to get a very high skill level too especially combined with dazzling display.

Did see a player specialise his Transmuter Wizard in 'Touch of Gracelessness'... Yes, this includes both feat and traits but it was surprisingly useful against a huge range of opponents especially when followed by a spell with a reflex save... Like Grease or Fireball.

Frost bite, rimed, with enforcer.

That one works quite well.
