Any magical weapon can be of more-or-less any type.
The Frost Brand is specifically a great sword, but if you want a +3 axiomatic greatsword, that's fine.

I think he means it's a logical assumption that, if you're playing in a Home Game, you can ask your DM if you can take all the magicalasitiness of a Holy Avenger (which is usually a Longsword), and put it onto a Greatsword, Bastardsword, Katana, Falcata, etc.
Since the price difference between a Longsword as the base and a Greatsword is fairly negligible by the time you could find a magical sword like that, re-designing those weapons to be other weapons is pretty much drag & drop.
That's not going to be the case for PFS, of course, because you really WOULD have everyone & their brother who're Paladins running around with Holy Avenger Flacatas, Elven Curveblades, and Katanas, which would just be silly.

Technically true, however Ultimate Campaign gives us this on page 170:
Some new items are really existing magic items with a different weapon or armor type, such as a dagger of venom that is a rapier instead of a dagger or a lion's shield that's a wooden shield instead of a metal shield. For these items, just replace the price of the non-magical masterwork item with the cost of the new type of item. For example, a rapier of venom has a price of 8,320 gp instead of the dagger of venom's price of 8,302 gp.
So in essence, there's no reason a holy avenger can't be a bastard sword, scimitar (quite appropriate for a paladin of Sarenrae), or what have you using the standard magic item creation rules.
