Metal Construct Druids

Rules Questions

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I didnt see anything when I looked it up. Druids specifically can't wear metal armor. That I know. However, what if the druid was a Construct made of metal? Would it be possible? I know that Warforged in 3.5 could be Druids, but I'm pretty sure that Warforged were more made of stone and such, and had feats for what type of armor was built onto their bodies (wooden, metal, etc.)

I only ask because I've always had this idea to play the 3pp Automata race as a Druid, with the general background story that the automata wants to find out more about how life and nature works, compared to its robotic lifestyle it was more or less made for. Issue is....they're specifically noted as being made of metal.

So would this be possible? I am going to assume no, it is not possible. Worst comes to worse, I play the Skin Changer Ranger variant (3pp class, also gets Wild Shape, no spells). But I would find it entertaining to play a robot that harnesses the power of nature to sling spells.

It's possible, it's legal and it's pretty odd - which is a good thing, as far as I'm concerned.

You still can't wear metal armours though. Being metal is fine, wearing metal is a big no-no for druids. You may want to add something in the character's background about how it convinced another druid to train it though.

I know this is unhelpful, but when I first saw the title it looked to me like "Metal Construct Donuts." :P

I know I made a pair of water elemental druids, but I suppose you could make some Titanium Elementals with druid class levels.

I think Warforges had to take the Wooden Plating to qualify for druids. because the plating counted as metal armor.

As for the race itself if its made of metal. that really shouldn't count agaent playing a druid unless it says someware that it dose.

Hmmm.... I guess it kind of depends at that point on the wording of their built in armor for the specific race I'm looking at. They each have an associated armor value, and are treated as wearing a type of armor for max dex, armor check penalties, and spell failure. I guess if the GM rules it has "they are treated as wearing it, therefore they are, therefore they cant be druids." Or if they read that as "They are built that way and are not technically wearing metal armor."

The Irony of that would be that playing an actual metal construct from pathfinder would make it easier for them to be a druid as opposed to the 3rd party material thanks to its phrasing.

A suggestion might be, to suggest to your GM to have your, Automata was it? to have his armour be of ironwood. It behaves like metal armour but is safe for druids to wear. Its in the same vein as the wooden plating feat for warforged mentioned earlier.

Honestly, for basically anyone that I would be playing under, they wouldn't care. They would be fine running it as is and saying "Well, that's not really wearing armor, and its not game breaking...so have fun." This was mostly just a curiosity type deal. And lets be honest....who wouldn't want to play a robo druid? Remember the show Beast Wars? Yeah....

Warforged did not have to take Wooden plating, but if they took Mithral or Adamantine they would lose their druid abilities. The base armor was considered ok, even if part of it was metal.
