Game Reboot - Recruitment Homebrew Eastern flavor

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 147 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

I'm rebooting a game that died, and taking the surviving 3 players into a new game. So, 3 slots locked in, 3 open. I'll take 3 characters total. I'll leave recruitment open for a week, with an option to extend another week if things are going slow.

Your character can be from the continent, or a stranger.

Ren'Shan Overview

Unlike the rest of the world, it's less about good vs evil, and more about law vs chaos.

Divine Casters : Divine Casters that follow a god for their power (Cleric, Inquisitor, Paladin, Antipladin, Warpriest) can only be from off island, and they will have a great deal of trouble casting spells until they can find a holy relic to boost their tie to their god, as the tie to divinity is weakened on the island. Divine casters that don't have this issue (Druids, Oracles, Shamans) have no issues.

Races
Foreign : Core, Aasimar, Tiefling, Wyrwood, Fetchling, Orc, Samsaran, Changling, Drow
Islander : See doc above

Alignment
Lawful Alignments will meet with better treatment on the island, Neutral that can fake it as well. Chaotic personalities will find major issues getting along. LE and NE could do ok, as long as they can control themselves. CG, CN, and CE are likely to end up in serious trouble.

Level
Level 3 - Standard Starting Wealth

Hitpoints
Max First Level, Average round down +1 at each additional level.

Stats
I do stats a bit different than most. I roll 3 sets, 4d6 drop lowest, and everyone picks which of those 3 sets they want.

Set 1:

Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 1) - 1 = 14
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 5, 6, 1) - 1 = 15
Stat: 4d6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 6) - 3 = 15
Stat: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 3, 3, 2) - 2 = 10
Stat: 4d6 - 4 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 6) - 4 = 15
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 1, 2, 3) - 1 = 9

Set 2:

Stat: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 3) - 2 = 12
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 4) - 1 = 6
Stat: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 2, 6, 5) - 2 = 15
Stat: 4d6 - 4 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 4) - 4 = 15
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 6) - 1 = 18
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 4, 5, 1) - 1 = 11

Set 3:

Stat: 4d6 - 4 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 5) - 4 = 14
Stat: 4d6 - 3 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 3) - 3 = 15
Stat: 4d6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 6) - 3 = 14
Stat: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 5) - 2 = 13
Stat: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 1, 2, 5) - 1 = 11
Stat: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (5, 2, 4, 6) - 2 = 15

Oh, you can add Dhampir to the foreign races.

Also, map of the island.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Looks very interesting... I'd like to make a character.. I'm thinking a dhampir brawler or monk...

Grand Lodge

dot....what are the other 3 players playing?

Note the corrections on the stat rolls. *sigh* Stupid preview doesn't work right for the first post, so when I added all the subtractions in, it reset the #'s. I should be used to it by now.

Other 3 have not decided what they are doing yet.

Silver Crusade

dot. Gonna go slayer or ninja, think I will take the second set.

Liberty's Edge

A few questions:

- it is a fast paced campaign like an AP or it would be possible to craft and maybe use the rules from ultimate campaign?
- it will be possible to enter the evangelist prestige class?
- if possible, there would be problems with it in the island?
- there is space for non optimized character (I don't mean inefficient, simply not optimized to the max)?
- the stat stay in the rolled order or you can reorganize them?

set 1

Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 6) - 1 = 18
Stats: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 2) - 2 = 13
Stats: 4d6 - 3 ⇒ (6, 5, 3, 6) - 3 = 17
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 6) - 1 = 12
Stats: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 3) - 2 = 8
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 6) - 1 = 12

set 2

Stats: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 5) - 2 = 14
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 2) - 1 = 11
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 2) - 1 = 13
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 4, 5, 1) - 1 = 12
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 4) - 1 = 12
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 2, 1, 1) - 1 = 8

set 3
Stats: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 5, 2, 2) - 2 = 11
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 1) - 1 = 8
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 1) - 1 = 13
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 5) - 1 = 11
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 2, 3, 1) - 1 = 11
Stats: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 1, 6, 3) - 1 = 14

I had a concept I wanted to import for a samsaran, but making a intelligence based character with those stat ....

Waiting for the replies.

Um, I think the DM wants you to choose from what he posted bruh.

Liberty's Edge

Hey MDT..what a fantastic setting. I am looking at playing a Dhampir magus (bladebound) if that is ok. He will come from Yomi, and is the son of one of the Vampire Naan who rule there. His sword is a sliver of the Black Jade Throne from which the Vampire Di rules.
What do you think? Doable?
Thanks!

Beautiful setting.

I'm thinking of a catfolk swashbuckler as a ronin-type.
It will need a bit of reflavoring to really fit the setting, but if you're good with things like saying panache is just a specialized ki, I'll build it out. Otherwise, I'll try something more traditionally eastern.

Wow, love the setting, and you had me at "homebrew." I'll read up on your document and see what I can come up with.

@Diego - Speed is based on players. I have no objections to craft and UC rules (I assume you mean buildings and teams). Prestige classes are on a 'see how it's going in game at the time' but generally I don't have much problem with them. You would have significant problems trying to convert islanders to worshiping a specific god, over ancestors and spirits. The spirits actually talk to them (including their own ancetor's ghosts). I generally don't require min/max'd characters (I can deal with them, but they aren't my favorite). I like characters that are more rounded. If you min/max for combat, you'll likely end up spending long periods simply grunting. You can rearrange the rolled stats as you like, but you have to use one of the 3 sets I rolled in the first post.

@Daniel Stewart - Thanks. :) Shouldn't be an issue, although black blades, especially ones created from a black jade thone, tend to have their own agendas.

@Snake Charmer - Thanks. And yes, reflavoring is perfectly fine. :) Swashbuckler's make excellent high mobility samurai.

@Budd Chudd - Thanks. :)

Hey all! It's cool to see such quick interest in this. I'm one of the players from the previous game of mdt's and I'll be bringing Kasani here into this one. I haven't built her profile yet and I'm still brainstorming a bit, but I'm pretty settled on her being a nagaji samurai/sorcerer or perhaps a magus[kensai]/shaman.

In either case, I'm expecting her to be a bit headstrong and perhaps not all that book-learned, but she'd be kind and polite and likely a good fit for party-face-type role in the group.

Of the ideas I see here already, I have to say, I'm impressed. Regardless of whoever else is selected, I look forward to having a good game together! =)

hmmm....I'm thinking a Monk (Zen Archer/Quinggong) Tengu with Exotic Weapon Training. That way, he can pick up Daikyu (Longbow) proficiency and use a Composite Longbow.

I would use set#2.

What's our original set-up? Where do we begin our adventures and is there anything we need to know about our situation?

Do we get traits and are there any specific campaign traits?

Alright. Pesky follow-up question:

The un-archetyped swashbuckler requires a light or one-handed piercing weapon. Alright with you if I call my rapier a jian? I can take the EWP and use the pointy end of a wakizashi, but I'd rather not eat the feat.

I'm wondering along similar lines to Snake Charmer. Are Eastern Weapons still considered Exotic in this setting?

I've got two character concepts I'm bouncing around right now, either a Sorcerer or a Ranger/Slayer (not sure yet). Probably just going to go Human in either case.

The Exchange

I'm also one of the previous players and I am thinking of a kitsune Skald (Spell Warrior) in the vein of a sort of mirthful traveling mystic type. Maybe tending to pose as human if people are being overly mistrustful...

Riku'Osui and the third set looks the perfect place for an Undine monk/water bender. I like the detail and effort put into this. Good work.

Silver Crusade

So after a little thought I'll go slayer. Haven't tried the class yet and it looks fun and effective.

Most likely TWF wakisaskhi.

Question. I can't get the link to load except the first two pages. Is this island the only land in the setting, or is there land under it?

I was going to have my character be from off the island seeking a mcguffin/training. Or possibly seeking a target.

Thinking half-elf.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

so I have a question - you didn't mention traits - do you allow them?? two per player if so? do you have any campaign-specific traits?

Liberty's Edge

Here is the crunch for my submission. I left the purpose for my blackblade open for you to add...hope you like it...I sure am warming to him!! lol

Silver Crusade

actually, gonna go ninja, just fits better. Or, a TWW fighter.. so unsure. So many possibilities...

thinking someone from the riku'kaze desert. That or the Riku'ki.

either fletchling, half-elf, human, aasimar or tengu. (wide range I know...)

Anyway- Concept is this

A young rapscallion that detests the boring day to day work he and others must do even though he knows he must do it. He seeks a more adventurous life. He would often go exploring when his duties were finished, and every so often, when they weren't (though, not enough to become problematic) Cheerful, warm, and cunning he managed to talk, or sneak, his way out of most of the times he got into trouble.

That's were I've stopped for now..

questions-

Are there "Dojos" on this island? like the RL Asian equivalents?
Are there "monsters" like you would call in golarion? Who/what would be the normal "enemy"
How easy is travel between the regions, and how often is their a "wanderer" of sorts?
Why are the regions represented in army colors?
Who are the barons? king? emperor? I didn't see anything pertaining to these. How much influence do they have?

and, a more mechanical question, what is the level of power you see your game running? and how quickly do you intend to advance (levels)? I may be looked down on for asking, but I have a couple of neat ideas in the making. (need the above questions clarified) and some are less optimal than others.. I don't want to make a flavorful build, and then die, or worse, just be useless because of the level of power within the game.

My doubt was about playing something that isn't min/maxed and not fitting in, so I think there will be no problem.

Decidedly set 3 for the stats. I had completely missed how it was intended to work.

The concept I had in mind don't work well with your setting, I think.
From what I read the samsaran come from off island but people coming from off island are meant to be foreigners and not eastern flavored (it is not about the class, but the background and motivations), while the character background I had in mind has a strong oriental flavor.

I will think about the options and see if I can get a good submission.

I've decided to go Sorcerer. Is the Draconic bloodline appropriate for the setting (thinking Red or Gold dragon, I'm feeling like fire should be my thing)? The build is using the second set of rolls with Charisma as the high stat and Wisdom as the dump- I see this character being very impulsive and not thinking his/her actions through.

I'm not sure how effective this build will be since I've never played a Sorcerer before. I'm thinking this is going to be mostly a blaster.

Quick question about naming conventions. Should characters native to Ren'Shan favor Japanese, Chinese, etc. names? Are these types of names more common in one district or another? Just wanted to make sure before I name my character.

The Exchange

Tried to cull the posts above just to reflect where we are at concept wise...

If it helps anyone else out I tend not to build optimally and mdt has, in my experience in his games and others I have seen, tends to reward full concepts. For my part I will be taking mostly Kitsune feats to get more spell tricks and impersonate people so I wouldn't worry about being super efficient, my 2cp anyway.

I am glad about that...as I was going more for a role-playing character than a min/max roll-playing character. Also are you looking for some fluff as well? I can add that no problem, but might need more information about the "land of the Dead"...oh, and what languages are available in your lands?? I have 3 slots still open.

Silver Crusade

Good. I'll be going ninja taking 3rd set. Glad it's a lower powered game. Just need the setting questions answered now

You setting is pretty cool, i like your nature souled race and would be very interested in playing as one. Far as I see it they are one with the earth, tranquility types.
I'd be interested in being a druid of the race that bucks that trend as the spirits he channels and the voices of the earth he hears are truly rapacious ones. If the setting would permit it i'd be interested in playing a Saurian shaman with one of the summon feats reflavored to make them killer topiary rather than dinosaurs if the setting does not have such things as 'jungle dragons'

That the seed of the idea at least, would such an idea fit in your setting?

An interesting homebrew Eastern-flavoured game with mdt, PirateDevon, and Gavmania? Oh I am absolutely going to be required to apply to this.

This is JAFO, here is my submission - still missing a few things, like feats, but generally done. I settled on a Mikobito shaman/investigator.

Silver Crusade

alright, After much heehawing, reading thinking and arguing the whither-tos and the why-fors with myself. I have decided. And managed to narrow it down to two races.

catfolk, or fletchling.

GM, would you mind me writing up a background for both of these characters and let you pick which you feel fits the setting better?

I'd keep the same mechanics for either, just the background.

also, would we be allowed to, say, shift a point around or so? It's a lot of odd numbers, and mostly this comes from an OCD aspect of myself. (I could not, and still cannot watch TV if the numbers are not even, or divisible by 5...) Just a thought.

another thing... I am considering at some point. (probably after level 10, if we get that high) having him go paladin... If the story is right. I foresee either (particularly, the fletchling) moving to more lawful, and more good as the game progresses. Starting out around NN/NG. just a thought I was having, would be fun I think to try and play a LG ninja :3

Wow, lot of posts. :) Wall of text in 3.. 2..

@Snake Charmer/Budd Chudd - I'm perfectly fine with a player specifying that his swashbuckler uses light or one-handed slashing weapons instead of piercing, but then he can't use piercing weapons at all. I'm also fine with them using a rapier's stats to represent a jian. If you go the slashing swashbuckler route, you would still need the EWP to use a katana as your weapon (to do the one handed thing).

@PirateDevon - Just remember that skald (barbarian) being non-lawful is going to lose face. Being an entertainer gets you some leeway, but don't expect a lot of respect.

@Zayne Iwatani - Be interesting to see how you do the monk/water bender (Wave oracle/monk?).

@Rorek55 - The doc only details the island. If you want to be from another continent, I can either just tell you the possibilities, or I can put up the docs for the rest of my world. Given there's a ton of stuff to read through, it might be easier for you to tell me race and general idea, and I'll give you specific details. For half-elf, you'd probably be coming from the continent of Pallandria. There are two elf kingdoms on that continent, one set of elves are the clasical elves (wizardy/archer types). The other kingdom are the feral elves (barbarian/ranger) types. A slayer would be most appropriate for the second kingdom (they get +2 con, +2 wis, -2 int instead).

@JAF0 - Standard trait rules (2 + 1 with drawback). You can refluff traits if you like to better fit your backgroudn, but you have to state what the original is with it, and the type.

@Daniel Stewart - Will look over when I have time, thanks for the submission.

@Rorek55 - Yes, there are dojo's (schools of styles). The style feats are specific to a school (so it's rare to see anyone with multiple fighting style feats, schools don't like to train multiple styles, so master of many styles archetype is rare). Monsters are the Kami, the orcs, oni, and other chaotic monsters that live in the mountains between the civilized areas and the undead lands. The undead lands are a mix of chaotic and lawful. Most enemies are going to be Kami, Oni, or other clans, bandits, etc. Travel between regions is easy, no restrictions, but people tend to treat them as outsiders. The color schemes are part of the regimentation, it's also part of the pride. I'll detail the emperor/barons, kings, etc for each area if it's needed for character creation, or as we go in game. I usually try not to specify those until needed when I run in the island as it leaves me more free to accomodate character ideas. If you want specifics, I can give them, obviously.

@Budd Chudd - Draconic bloodline is highly appropriate for the island. However, base the bloodline off the eastern dragons, not the western dragons. Changes are obvious (breath weapon choice based off eastern dragon's breath weapon, etc). It's an unabashed and shameless mix of chinese and japanese, with slightly more chinese names than japanese for the island locales (they should actually translate if you type them into a translation website). Either or is fine.

@All - Part of your submission neeeds to be a background & personality. Obviously those not from the island will need help with the background, and I'm good with helping out on the 'where could I come from' thing. While outsiders are treated with less respect, they also have more options, and aren't part of the local heirarchy, which can be a good thing in some ways.

@Movin - No dinosaurs (at least not on the island), but there are lizards (komodo dragons and similar things like geckos) so saurian is a posibility, but it's a very rare one. If you wanted to take the elf archetype that does plants instead, that would be highly appropriate.

@Rorek55 - For catfolk, they can be from on-island or off-island, either one. Although Ninja would be local grown only. :) Fetchling's same thing. As far as moving stats around, I'd rather not, if you don't mind. I completely understand the OCD thing, but part of why I like the method I use is that I don't end up with 8/10/10/10/13/18 arrays. :) As to the paladin, there are no churches on the island, so he'd need to meet a travelling paladin from off-continent, fall under his sway, and then get trained. Doable, but it would require in game work on your part. I'm perfectly fine with you submitting backgrounds and personalities if you like and offering feedback on both, which one you choose is up to you.

BTW: There's obviously sufficient interest that I don't need to leave the recruitment open for a long time. So we'll shut down recruitment Monday night, and I'll get out selections sometime Tuesday. Existing players will have input on which characters they'd like to see (So existing players let me know this weekend what your general preferences are, and then get me a final vote tuesday).

Why do the chars HAVE to be lawfull? Why couldn't they ally with chaos? Too much law is just as bad as too much chaos. What about neutrality?

Silver Crusade

just hit preview to check over everything, and wham! wall of text ;p Thanks, I'll submit the catfolk Idea first. to be honest, their personalities are... similar. (I've tended to shy away from "serious" characters, the friendly ones are more fun to RP imo. (That said, I do have a couple..) so, It'll come down to mostly setting/fluff meshing and which you feel fits better as a character over all. (considering, nothing changes from either race really, save a few skill modifiers and vision) Mechanics will be mostly the same, if only the catfolk had dark vision "/ I also see my catfolk as very.. NN he understands the need for laws, and the duties that come with them, but he enjoys some practical fun (jokes), adventure and freedom.

for background purposes, I would like to know a bit more about each region. such as, said styles tought, beliefs (if variant from region to region) I mean other things not duty/honor/law/religion more of like... day to day views of life. Would I be limited (RP wise) to a certain selection of ninja tricks? you stated what the regions are known for and a brief geographical description, what about regional culture, like, are the people from Riku'ki culturally different than riku'kaze? would they have developed more into what we would think of arabic influence in Riku'kaze due to the desert, or not? As now, the catfolk Idea I have comes from one of these two regions, and likely is known to travel between the too.

guess I'm just really interested and want to make a good character that fits, anyway, I used IC RP to get across the personality, hope it worked. (and, just to ask one more time.. I just wanna swap a 15 to a 16, and a 15 to a 14 :3 )

You didn't say anything about catfolk? well neither did I! You must have miss heard me! Anyway, moving along! The Names Akio. The hair? Yes! of course it's naturally crimson! Oh, what? most normals humans don't have crimson hair? Well hah! that's where you're wrong as clearly I do! Anyway friend, as I was saying. I'm just your normal ninja. Doing ninjay things. would you like to hear my flute playing? Or perhaps take a look at my scrimshaws? Oh, you want to see me turn invisible? sigh, no one ever wants a scrimshaw... *poof* there. Ya happy? Glad you can see me go invisible, now where am I! Find me and I'll give you a prize! Nope, not there! no...no not there either. Ok, here's a hint, FOLLOW THE SOUND OF MY VOICE! sigh. why would I be over there??? here, *poof* there, you can see me again, I was in the same spot the whole time. Anyway, who am I? Well, that's a story that can take some time to tell. It all started....

Hope that gives a good insight to his personality, here is what I envision him looking like, (somewhat at least)
Here.

@Scoundrel Tiefling - I never said they had to be lawful. I only said that those who are chaotic will be treated about the same way evil people are in most games. Neutral is also an option, they are just not as well liked by the lawful folks. Anyone can play whatever they want, just expect it to be as much an issue as playing evil in Golarion.

@Rorek55 - Yes, the different regions have personalities similar to what you might expect based on the type of region. People from the swamp/lake section tend to be more a go with the flow types, so they teach styles that don't emphasize strength or overpowering (Janni/Marid are a common ones there). Forest would be wise and patient, never getting in a hurry (Kerin/Mantis are common). The wind swept desert leads to people who are restless and rarely like to stay in one place a lot (even the city folks tend to move around in the city, or from city to city, Crane/Jabbing styles are popular). The volcanic area tends toward people who are fiery and temperamental, they are the most combatative of the island's populace (Efreeti/Tiger styles are common). Those who make their home in the mountains are both more free, and more sturdy, than those who live in the civilized lands. Having to deal with kami and oni regularly makes them a much more cautious and careful folk (Shaitan/Earth Child/Turtle styles are common here). Basically, those of the volcanic realm are fiery and proud, those of the water realm are cool and collected, those of the forest realm are calm and contemplative, those of the desert realm are flighty and in constant motion, and those of the mountains are hard and cautious. A chaotic character will find much less issues in the desert lands than anywhere else, and the desert lands have traditionally been as likely to come out against the rest of the lands than for them when war rages.

Silver Crusade

k. catfolk shall be from riku'kaze then. thanks for the answers! or, BORN in riku'ki, but prefers riku'kaze, and most likely "moves" to live there.

Silver Crusade

oooo. I have an idea, I want to base my ninja around the "forgotten trick" ninja trick, (along with a ring of ki mastery). Like, he was trained by a MASTER(and I mean, master), and he calls upon the knowledge and training he had from him for different scenario's. yeeees. Would this be probable in your world?

I will just go with the catfolk,

hieght: 2d8 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9 so, 5'2" exactly as the image portrayed, except Black hair, and Green colored eyes. Stripped patches on his elbows/knees.

Katsu here, I'm still adding bits to his background, but let me know what you think of the general premise please sir :3

I'd like to run a classic wuxia wandering monk. A 'dodges an enemy's strike by doing a backflip and landing on their outstretched blade' kind of kung-fu magic character.

I'm thinking human qinggong ki mystic weapon adept monk, but am hoping you'll allow the Perfect Strike ability to be used with more than just the weapons listed in the feat. Though they both get the feat at level 1, the Zen Archer specifically allows Perfect Strike to be used with a bow but the Weapon Adept doesn't say anything about opening up the feat to other weapons.

Background:
Wandering Crane was born Han Si Zhao (names can be changed if Japanese-style names are more appropriate) in Riku'Kaze, the illegitimate son of a disciple of martial arts master old Master Bao and a married woman in the village nearby. Old Master Bao killed Zhao's father in a rage after discovering the affair. Disgraced and fearing that old Master Bao would kill her son, Zhao's mother fled. She settled in a tiny mountain village far from old Master Bao's school.

Years passed, and Zhao learned martial arts himself. He swore to avenge his father's death and traveled to old Master Bao's village to kill his father's killer. But he met Bao Ah Luan, the granddaughter of old Master Bao, on the road and the two developed feelings for each other, neither knowing their families' shared history. When they arrived in the village and Zhao announced his intent, Bao Ah Luan offered to kill herself in exchange for her grandfather's life. Zhao tried to stop her but couldn't catch her as she fell to her death. Old Master Bao was filled with regret over what he had done and also killed himself.

Zhao saw to Ah Luan's burial and left the village. Deeply grieved and feeling no comfort in spite of having caused the death of his father's killer, Zhao renounced his name, pledged to never marry, and became a wanderer, never settling down in one place for very long.

Personality:
Wandering Crane is very easy going with regard to most things. He will take work as a guard if a merchant is going in the direction he wants to go or if someone offers him a lift, otherwise he will walk. He will sleep in an inn if he can afford a bed, otherwise he will sleep another night out under the stars. He affects a very even tempered, calm persona and tries hard not to get upset even in the middle of a fight.

That isn't to say that he's emotionless, he just tries to minimize negative emotions. He will tell jokes and drink with friends, but always in moderation and never to the point of becoming drunk. He is friendly and open and always willing to lend a hand. This friendly, helpful personality is key to his survival in the clan and family focused world of Ren'Shan. Since he is clanless, school-less, and master-less, it's only by being helpful and useful that he can make his way in the world.

His only real driver is that he has developed an insatiable curiosity about new styles of martial arts. As he wanders into new territories he always wants to see the local style.

I'll work on crunch once I see your response to my question about the Perfect Strike feat. If you're wondering about what my RP looks like, I play Taska Vrei in The Birth of Hope game.

Liberty's Edge

For my background is it possible to get more information on the lands of Yomi? Thanks

@Karlprosek - My understanding is Weapon Master and Zen Archer use the Perfect Strike feat with their weapons of choice, rather than the restriction in the feat (other wise it would be useless for Zen Archers).

@Rorek55 - Forgotten trick is fine, and the last student of the mad master is a viable trope in the world.

@Daniel Stewart - The Yomi lands are the lands of the dead. Within the center of the island the Clouds of Death keep the Yomi lands constantly covered and without sunlight (it varies from dimly lit at mid-day to coal mine dark at night). There are three courts, all controlled by fell powers. The Court of White Jade is the most powerful, controlling 2/3rds of the Yomi lands. Ghosts, ghouls, vampires and undead owe allegiance to the White Queen (a vampire). The Black King rules from the Black Jade Throne. The Black King is an Oni of extreme power, who rules both the Black Court and the Oni of the mountains with a bloody fist. He controls a quarter of the Yomi lands, and about half of the mountains surrounding it. The last court, the Gray Court, is ruled by The Gray Lady. The Gray Lady is, by legend, more powerful than both the White Queen and the Black King, but does not take over out of a dislike of being in charge. The Gray Lady is primarily attended by mortals who have been touched by death or evil (onika-kun, dhampirs, cursed mortals, etc). The Gray Lady is often a mediator and judge between the two other courts. The white court is LE, the black court is CE, and the Gray Court leans toward N with lawful and evil tendencies.

Liberty's Edge

Awesome...this gives me some very interesting ideas for my character's background..and a bit of a change to his "blackblade". Also I have left the purpose open for you to add if you want....or I can add one myself for your approval...your decision. Should have fluff up soon!

Great, thanks. I'll get to work on his crunch.

I can be a lawful skald. *wiggle eyeborws* But I was thinking NG, there are many times there is a sort of less worthy pseudo humorous companion to the heroes in many Chinese (and some Japanese) hero stories. Potentially capable, charismatic but a little rough, sticks out, finds mischief...seems very fox like to me. I want it to be fun though, if anyone's senses that it would be an issue I can find more...straight laced....options ;)

For some reason Miroku from Inuyasha comes to mind, not necessarily the lech part but more the generally decent but sort of slimy part.

As I said, nobody has to play lawful. You are welcome to play neutral or chaotic. The setting will reward or punish you accordingly, just as being nuetral or evil will reward or punish you accordingly in most APs (imagine playing neutral in Wrath of the Righteous, you're not good, you could be conspiring with evil, you get less trust). I'd honestly be disappointed if everyone played lawful.
