More interesting internet-esque observations:

My post about dropping out of the communism derail and Citizen Lion's post about his experiences behind the Iron Curtain were posted at EXACTLY THE SAME SECOND and they've been jockeying back and forth in the thread order every time I look at that page.

(Yes, I kept composing more posts for the communism derail and then deleting them. I admit to the temptation but stayed true to my declaration. Anklebiter word is bond!)

Okay, so that is happening! I just kind of thought it was a weird quirk of my psychology that I kept being wrong all the time or something. Cool! Thanks!

Wouldn't want my kids working in porn by any measure, but as long as those working at it are doing so freely and aware of the risks and implications, I have no problems with it.

Never understood why people were so into having some type of top-down overview and control over their kids sex life. Not necessarily pointing fingers at you, klaus, as this is just an observation I've made over the years as *everyone* seems to say that about their kids getting into porn(also why don't people ever consider their parents getting into porn?). I don't think anyone would approve of their kids sex lives on the whole, and on the flip side, who would want their parents watching while they had sex anyway?

This was probably 2002...

Went to go hang out at a friends house, together with my roommates. At the close of the evening, we're leaving and heading back to the car when I notice a VHS tape sitting in the grass. White label with black lettering:

Somewhere Under the Rainbow #2

We all agreed it was porn, but we had no idea what kind of porn. So we took guesses. We had a lot of different guesses. We get home and pop it into the VCR to find out.

Opening scene, there's 4 beds with figures under the covers with this playing in the background (SFW). As the music builds the figures start to stir. Turns out they're all little people.

It got stranger from there, like actually strange, not just sex between people of disproportionate sizes, but I won't go into details.

I can tell you from my experience working at a movie rental place that little people porn can be very expensive

One of my other favorite moments was when a porn scene stopped because of something the woman said. The *scene* was just about to finish, when she said "Don't get any in my hair, my husband doesn't know I do this."

They stopped for about 10 minutes to talk to her about this interesting fact in her life, then went back and concluded the last 2 minutes of the scene.

For reference: Somewhere Under the Rainbow #2
And with a little actual information: Somewhere Under the Rainbow

If you really want to know whether porn is good or bad for you, you could stop watching it for a few weeks and then monitor the results. Just saying.

Much the same way smokers stop smoking and alcoholics stop drinking, just for a few weeks...

Or like anyone stops doing anything they enjoy, just for a few weeks.

I'm kind of curious what kind of effects you'd expect though.

Well, if you're outright addicted to pornography, I'd suggest some professional help or a support group. Nobody wants to be so out of control that they can't stop even if they wanted to.

Heightened emotions. Deeper, more satisfying intimate relationships. More free time?

I don't know. Let me know how it goes for everyone. They say new habits can form in just 21 days.

Well, since I'm not seeing anyone at the moment, the usual change is that I'm hornier and more distracted.

More free time that I can waste on internet posts.

Personally, sometimes I'd rather La Principessa would let me be and just watch some porn.

Are we stopping all masturbating? Or just watching porn? They're not exactly the same thing.

BTW: This came up on my music shuffle, just after that last comment.

So many Turbonegro songs are appropriate to this topic.

nonsense. I have gone without porn for months at a stretch and have noticed no real positives or negatives. Porn is porn. Like anything, if your life revolves around it to the point of exclusivity, it's probably doing more harm than good.

I don't think anyone would approve of their kids sex lives on the whole, and on the flip side, who would want their parents watching while they had sex anyway?

I think it is perfectly reasonable for parents to be mindful about their kids' sex life; sex is a big thing with pretty big consequences, and it's every parent's impulse to care about stuff that can deeply affect their kids. I see it just like how parents are reasonably worried about their kids' career and couple choices. It's natural to worry about that stuff; you want those munchkins to have a good life.

That doesn't mean I think parents should micromanage their kids' sex life or trample over their personal desires once they are mature enough to know what they are doing, just that I don't see anything odd in parents wanting control.

As for why not porn, I would be pretty creeped out to know my kids are being featured in high-impact porn streaming, to be honest. If my daughter came to me and said she wanted to become a porn actress, I'd try to talk her out of it to the best of my ability, but if in the end she remained adamant, I would have to let her do what she wanted and try to find a way to live with it. She would have the right to choose her own life, and other than advice one can't and shouldn't do more than that.

I haven't really read any of the thread. Like, at all, so I'm not sure which side of this debate you're on.

Anyhow, I've done so several times (I have an on-again, off-again relationship with my penis). Have not noticed any change one way or the other.

Was I supposed to?

if your son said he wanted to go into porn, would he get the same lecture? What about your parents?

The relationship dynamic you have with your kids is completely different from the one you have with your parents (well, they're the same, but you're on the opposite end).

This is all generalization, there are many specific relationships that do not follow all of this.

Kid->Parent
You start life being protected and directed by your parents. They provide for you, they make decisions for you and they protect you. They are in charge. Eventually, as you grow up and become an adult if you have a good relationship and both sides adjust well you become something of equals. Maybe the last 5-10 years of it you become the caregiver and protector, but it's not until the end (typically).

Parent->Kid
When they're born you are the protector/provider/decision maker. This usually continues for at least another 15 years, but can extend beyond that in a more limited fashion for an additional 10. Even in centuries past, parents held sway of their kids for years after they left home, sometimes as patron, other times as head of the family business, or just as the more elder person in society.

There are fundamental differences in the dynamics of each side of the relationship that very easily account for why people think about their parents and kids differently. Yes, you want to treat all people "equally", but people are different and different relationships are different.

WHEW, that was a landmine!
Yes.

Men in porn make less than women. That is the only modification to that lecture from me.

On the plus side, they don't face as much pressure based on overall looks, just genital appearance/maintenance.

I mean, with pants on, the only movie you'd expect to see Ron Jeremy in is a Lou Albano biopic.

Arguably, men in (straight) porn are basically talking, self-propelled dildos. Outside, we're so, so, so much more.

On a different topic, I once bought a DVD and saw somebody (female) I worked with at the time. That gave me a bit of a shock.

that has yet to happen to me.

Did it change your opinion of her, and how?

I don't know... I always thought she was a bit mucky (or I think I thought that - it was a good few years ago), so probably not. Slightly surprised I haven't seen more - it was produced locally and folks of my acquaintance get up to all sorts...
