Advice on first time Warpriest

Advice

Hey all.

I've been playing various RPGs for 25 years now, and my current group is mostly running Pathfinder campaigns these days. However, having a 3 year old kid at home means that my focus is mostly on getting out of the house for a few hours once a week to have some laughs with my mates rather than devoting lots of time into making the perfect "OMG, that is so broken and stupidly overpowered super munchkin killer" character of doom.

That said, I've always been most fond of support classes and arcane casters (bard was my first love and probably still my favourite) but as my Shaman (he was poorly built, no great loss) died in our last session I thought I'd try smashing face for a change and the warpriest looked interesting.

This is an ongoing Skull&Shackles campaign with a 25 point buy and my character is starting at level 7 with 16k gold to spend, and this is what I've come up with so far. Is it any good or utter rubbish? It looks like fun to me at least :)

We're running with a few houserules, like minimum 4 skill points per level. Favoured class bonus is used on skill points. Chthonic steel has been OK'ed by the GM.

I don't know how to link stuff, but go to the following website:

and take a look at the "Warpriest Guide: Fight for Your God".

You can also find it by searching for "warpriest guide" on the forums.

I would lower str a bit to get up int and con, throwing 13 points is expensive. I think my level 1 stats would be somthing like str 17, dex 13, con 14, int 14, wis 16, cha 8 one of the traits would be, the ever present in divine casters, fates favored. Throw all stat increases in str. The movement issue i would fix with a pair of boots of striding and springing i assume you have the chthonic stuff clearet with the GM and that 3pp is no problem. And i assume that the long bow is not a+5 longbow but a str 20 longbow? Even if you go with my suggestion and only have 20 in str you dont need a handy sack yet that and the chtonic part of the other gear can pay for the boots, i think. If you take the alternate racial trait that give you +1 natural armor you could go with just picking power attack and weapon spec(great sword) with your bonus feats and throw your 4 normal feats in to improved natural armor, i dont know if it is smart but i would do it:) with the stuff you have now it would give you AC 10+1(dex)+2 amulet+5(natural armor)+1 ring+10 (armor)= 29 that and the extra hitpoints should make you quite hard.

Take Fate's Favored as a trait. It adds one to all luck bonuses.

Divine Favor is a luck bonus. At your level, that's a +4 to attack and damage for a 1st level spell that you can quicken for free. Pretty fantastic stuff there.

Pick up a Jingasa of the Fortunate Soldier. It is fairly cheap and is also a luck bonus.

if your Dm is allowing 3rd party their is a nifty little 1st level spell that raises your bab by 2 up to your HD which would give you your second attack right now

sorry for the double post actually found the spell its called Astute Fighting

Thanks for the input so far, good thoughts from all of you.

Fate's Favoured it is, guess I'll swap out Denial of Fate. It was more or less an afterthought anyway as I couldn't be bothered trawling through the insane amounts of trait for something better.

Yes, the chthonic stuff has been cleared with the DM. I'd have to check with him if he'll allow that spell. The longbow is not magical, it's just a +5 strength composite bow. That, too, was a bit of an afterthought so I can save a bit of gold there.

My level 4 stat increase has been put in Str already (all stats given are after mods) and the plan was to put the level 8 increase in Con for some additional hp.

Boots of Striding and Springing would put me at 25' movement? 20' base, dropped to 15' for heavy armour, increased to 25' for the boots?

I do like the thought of the Furious Focus feat, not having any penalties on the first Power Attack each round should be golden.

Is this viable, or would a Sacred Fist with a dip in fighter for heavy armour and martial proficiencies be better? Flurrying with a greatsword sounds like fun too...

the boots add 10ft of movement regardless so they would bring you up to 30

but its an enhancement bonus so it wouldnt stack with haste if someone casts that on you

1) The key to optimising stats in point buy games is to get every secondary stat as high as needed from the start since high stats are more expensive in the begenning than later in game. Con 14 cost 5 points str 16 cost 10 points so if you get stat increases in game like every 4 level these should go in the highest stat/stats.

2)yes i belive you are rigth.

3)Lots of folks like it. I am not a big fan since your first attack is already the one most likely to hit.
4) yes it is great. I think Lots og GMs will look ufavorably on players trying to get the Sacred fist to flurry in armor since that is, IMOP, not really the intention. If you try somthing like that you should talk it over with your GM first. Butif you want Sacred fist i think you should go with using the unarmed strike and get pummeling style.

If You enjoy the two handed style (Non-Reach) I strongly recommend the step up and strike line. The only problem a WP has is that the WP doesn't have enough attacks per turn to fix the 3/4ths BAB. In return you should look for ways (AOO's, Step up and strike, Flurry) for an extra hit a turn through feats.

I personally feel flurrying with a greatsword is awesome.
