"you have a mark of the First World"

Advice

Grand Lodge

That's an excerpt from the description of the fey foundling feat.

I tried reading the book, but I can't figure out what this really means.

If I select this feat for my character, how do I describe this "mark"?

I did it as heterochromatic eyes (one brown, one pale gray, almost white).

A simple solution would just steal somethings from the gnome description- a tint of olive or gold in the skin, and brightly colored hair and eyes. Green seems like a reasonable choice for 'something is off', although just a tint of it at the edges on otherwise blond hair (since fairies love blondes/blue eyes) might be good too.

Heterochromia doesn't seem that unusual either. Maybe even sectoral heterochromia (where only part of an iris has an off color).

Issue with heterochromatic eyes is that's the usual mark of "This character is a changeling."

Well darn...guess my suli paladin is a changeling...crap...

I said usual, not universal, but it is described as a changeling's more prominent common features.

That said: "Kill the paladin before they become a hag!"

(Wait, what?)

Ok I have to ask the DM about that now just because it sounds hilarious. Btw chose hetero chromatic eyes because dual born suli so yeah...anyway...
First World marks...have to agree with looking at gnomes or taking a look at the half- fey template for ideas...it's would say an odd colored birthmark in a shape often associated with the fey

You're hair/eyes/skin could change color and texture based off the seasons.

Scarab Sages

My Cavalier has this. I'd say it gives him some features that could be mistaken for Elven blood - as well as just a surreal quality whenever he's around (which can just as much explain, and be explained just as much by, his quixotic behavior).

Getting a skin discoloration whenever you touch cold iron. Not a burn or injury or anything, just discolored for a minute.

Getting characteristics from specific fey could also be interesting. Like getting fish scales in a place or two like a nixie, or maybe barkish skin on your back like a huldra.

Maybe a soft glow that you can suppress like a sprite? Not enough to actually DO anything, obviously, but enough that you can look interesting in certain conditions. Perhaps limit the actual glow to certain parts (eyes, hair, and/or a enigmatic rune)

Your farts smell like candy and flowers.

Your hair tastes like nectar and is all the color of the rainbows.

You think everything is your friend.

Apples are the greatest food in the world.

You have cat ears.

The first world's involved. Go as wild as your GM allows.

All these birds and small woodland creatures keep on climbing up on me.

Fun fact that the Disney movies never tell you about that- Birds aren't exactly house broken. I hate looking like a park statue.

Your shadow falls in the opposite direction! Or, it dances when you're not looking at it.

Your shadow has insect wings and pointed ears.

You could have a literal mark, like a birthmark or tattoo that looks like the "holy symbol" of one of the Eldest, which may mean that that Eldest considers you their kin...or their property...depending on which Eldest that is, the implications could be terrifying!

You could choose near enough any minor feature from gnomes, the fey, mythology etc. Maybe your character has a little bit of satyr in them and has a tiny vestigial tail, or horn buds. Or just hairy legs and a filthy sense of humour.

Any sort of usual eyes are fun though. Cat-like slit pupils?

A nice three pointed knot (triquetra) would work well. Its association with Magda is both portentous and completely ambiguous (and potentially meaningless) due to her association with fate.

Essentially, you can say that you are a destined hero...which means that there is a plot thread that you could explore, or you could leave alone entirely (since you can claim that it was part of another random plot thread).

It's unusual in humans, at least. And I went for the off-color eye being really odd by itself (almost completely white, barely any pupil).

Kind of the point, right? And she was abandoned by her tribe as a infant, so it fit the background.

Your blood is some odd substance like white wine, green ichor or pine sap.

You have cloven hooves like a satyr.

Cat eyes. Or eyes like pebbles, gemstones, etc.

Extra fingers, or extra joints on the normal number.

A tail (any type). Unless of course your race usually has a tail, in which case: no tail.

Hair made of feathers. Unless you're a tengu, in which case: humanish hair.

Skin of an unusual colour or texture.

The possibilities are endless.

You might want to be careful if you go for too many radical body alterations. It kind of steps on the toes of tieflings and aasimar.

One of those M.O.M. tattoos, only every time you show it to somebody the word is a different relative.

You just gave me an idea for my own fey foundling character: A birthmark that always appears to depict the face of the one observing it.

Thanks!

And here I am, sitting on the toilet while reading this... Thanks for the laugh though

On topic:
You could have actual butterfly wings. Obviously useless, but look pretty (especially when not covered by clothing). They also come in different sizes, from barely noticeable to unrealistically large.

Your saliva is a mild hallucinogen!
