The Exchange 2/5

I was in a scenario where my armor gained the broken condition. If it was normal armor, i could just use the "Make Whole" spell and be done with it.. but this armor is Glamered Mithral Agile Breastplate +3. So i was wondering how much i would have to pay to get it fixed.

Silver Crusade 2/5

Make Whole:

MAKE WHOLE
School transmutation; Level cleric 2, sorcerer/wizard 2
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target one object of up to 10 cu. ft./level or one construct creature of any size
This spell functions as mending, except that it repairs 1d6 points of damage per level when cast on a construct creature (maximum 5d6).

Make whole can fix destroyed magic items (at 0 hit points or less), and restores the magic properties of the item if your caster level is at least twice that of the item. Items with charges (such as wands) and single-use items (such as potions and scrolls) cannot be repaired in this way. When make whole is used on a construct creature, the spell bypasses any immunity to magic as if the spell did not allow spell resistance.

Make whole requires a caster level twice that of the magic item. Fortunately for us in PFS, such a caster can be found in a city of 5000 or more between scenarios.

I believe the caster level of your armor is 10 for the glamered effect. The enhancement bonus is caster level 9, and you use the higher of the two.

Caster Level for Armor and Shields: The caster level of a magic shield or magic armor with a special ability is given in the item description. For an item with only an enhancement bonus, the caster level is three times the enhancement bonus. If an item has both an enhancement bonus and a special ability, the higher of the two caster level requirements must be met.

So, you need a 2nd-level spell cast at caster level 20. From Spellcasting Services from the equipment chapter of the CRB, the price for this is Caster level × spell level × 10 gp, or 400 gold pieces. There are no costly components for make whole.

edit: spelling

Thank you Desolate. It's a lot cheaper than i expected.

Was it broken, or destroyed. Makes a BIG difference. Because if only broken, then you can do it with Mending instead, at the items caster level. Will take multiple castings, because each casting mends only 1d4 hp, but if you at the level you can afford such an expensive item, perhaps you are adventuring with a caster of sufficient level?

Mending has a couple of problems with it:

Mending:
MENDING
School transmutation; Level bard 0, cleric 0, druid 0, sorcerer/wizard 0
Casting Time 10 minutes
Components V, S
Range 10 ft.
Target one object of up to 1 lb./level
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless, object); Spell Resistance: yes (harmless, object)
This spell repairs damaged objects, restoring 1d4 hit points to the object. If the object has the broken condition, this condition is removed if the object is restored to at least half its original hit points. All of the pieces of an object must be present for this spell to function. Magic items can be repaired by this spell, but you must have a caster level equal to or higher than that of the object. Magic items that are destroyed (at 0 hit points or less) can be repaired with this spell, but this spell does not restore their magic abilities. This spell does not affect creatures (including constructs). This spell has no effect on objects that have been warped or otherwise transmuted, but it can still repair damage done to such items.

One, it only works on items of up to 1 pound per caster level, and two, it does not restore the magic to destroyed items.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

That is why the question, in part, revolves around whether the armor was just broken, or actually destryoed.

Broken is just hit point damage, and, while a full suit of plate armor, for example, might need a 50th level caster to repair as a unit. It isn't a unit, it is made of multiple pieces of armor that can be dealt with separately. Believe me, if it were a single piece, it would be more of a tank than something anyone could actually be mobile in. Then again, it would be a lot faster to don, too.
