In light of the many recent threads about politics, territory, PVPm retaliation, etc, Pathfinder University has decided to make its class for Wednesday, 3/19 at 9PM EST a DEBATE about government and politics in PFO.

We are asking leaders from across the map to join us for this session. We would like to have 1 leader from each of the major power blocks, and will take a few leaders from the unaligned/minor blocks. This is mostly because we can't have 33 different people in the debate and would really like to keep it under 8-10. If you are willing to join the debate, please PM PFU Hoffman.

To date we have commitments from:

Omnipotentseal - Aeonian League
Cheatle - EBA

We will add more leaders as we get additional commitments.

The session is going to be a debate, following classical format:

1. Everyone will get a 1 minute max opening statement
2. I will ask a question and each person will have 1-2 minutes to answer (depending on the question), and an option for a 30 second rebuttal.
3. Everyone will have a 1 minute closing statement.

We currently have the class scheduled for 60 minutes but if we get 10 leaders and enough questions we may have to extend it to 90 minutes. It will be recorded and our previous sessions are at http://youtube.pathfinderuniversity.com

As far as questions go, here is a start:

What does the River Kingdom freedoms mean to your group?
What territory do you 'own' and what does that mean?
What is your stance on PVP and retaliation?

I will take more questions in this thread or via PM. PLEASE post questions in this thread but lets not try to answer them here as I want to have a live debate not a thread war.

Even though I'm taking part, my money is on Cheatle. Honestly, I just want a good clean fight. :)

potential questions:

- would you encourage all groups to join a major alliance? how many power blocks do you see as optimal for the game as a whole (not just for your settlement specifically)?

- (in a few months) will you welcome/allow new groups to build settlements close to yours, or do you claim the empty settlement spots within your borders?

Sorry, the minimum bet on Cheatle is ten thousand coal.

1. I have posted the UNC's take on the River Freedoms.

2. The only territory we "own" is our settlement hex, and then later any hex that we can hold.

3. Less consequences for engaging in PVP, and more consequences for losing in PVP.

As for retaliation, each person, company, settlement, etc will retaliate until they feel enough hurt has been inflicted or until they become bored with it.

* I may be able to attend this meeting and at the very least listen in.

I have heard from the Highlanders and Emerald Lodge and they will both be attending. If anyone else wants to join on the panel, please PM me.

Some more potential questions:

What is the role of the forums (GW/Paizo) in your game/government?
Who can 'speak' for your group (especially on the forums) and what happens if a member decides to go against the grain?

And in complete self serving nature (it is a PFU discussion afterall):
What is your reaction to the PFU requests/rules (another thread here) and can we count on your support?

Goblin Squad Member

I'll be Attending if I can, as Wednesday nights can get busy.

Can you clarify what this means? (i.e. is it a representative of the Free Highlanders, or one or more leaders from their assorted settlements?)

Goblin Squad Member

An Ambassador stated that the Highlanders will be present but they are debating who. (it was official)

Goblin Squad Member

Hoffman, do you you have an expected cut-off date for questions? It would be good to have them provided several days in advance of the debate, so that representatives can prepare with their peers to ensure a response that best matches the entire group.

who's bringing the pom poms....

Erian great question. The core questions are above but I would expect follow up questions that may not be scripted in advance.

Maybe I'm missing something. I don't see any questions that are suitable for a debate; is this more of a "position statement briefing"?

My hope is that the 'opening' questions get the discussion going but the replies get a bit more debatable. (can't prep all of the questions. :))

For example, asking a group about their claims to land and PVP policies will of course open the discussion about what happens if someone trespasses, forum battle vs in game battle, what is best for the server, etc.

@Hoffman
I did get the answer from my wife and it's official

the good:

She doesn't mind if I set my alarm to the middle of the night and go to my computer. I have a great understanding wife.

the bad:

I'm told to sleep downstairs on the sofa that night. No way she wants me disturbing her sleep for PFO.

You lose some - you win some. Crazy what we do for this game.

In a way I agree with you, and only in the middle cases might their statements be subject to change.

The extremes on the Law and Chaos spectrum are more likely to be making position statements. The Neutral positions might be subject to crowd forging.

Aragon for example is near the Chaotic extreme. We would not allow an outside party to have us add more limitations or laws within our lands.

* All can freely harvest nodes within our lands
* All can set up outposts within our lands
* If we don't have a POI under our control, it is not our land
* All may travel into our land freely

In every one of those examples, you are subject to "You have what you hold".

We will set out settlement reputation to the lowest limit allowable. This will, I hope, provide an invaluable service to the community, especially for those that find themselves in negatives for doing what needed to be done.
