Greetings! Lately, my blog has been focusing on RPGSS-related things, but since RPGSS is over soon, it's time to start planning new things!

* Open call for guest bloggers: One of my regulars is moving on to new endeavors, and instead of hiring a new co-blogger, I want to have a weekly slot for guest writers.

If you're interested, send me a pitch for a blog post. You can send it in a private message here on paizo.com. Basically, it can be anything related to the Pathfinder RPG, freelancing, RPG design, or the RPG Superstar contest. There are no formal qualifications; if your pitch is good, I'll publish your article.

Please note that A Sword for Hire is a non-profit blog, so I cannot offer any compensation other than exposure.

* New interviews: I'll continue with what I started last year: I'll interview more 3PPs and people involved in Kickstarters. What's new is that I also intend to interview more freelance designers than before.

If you are involved in / you know about a Kickstarter, 3PP, or designer that I should do an interview about, let me know.

Regarding the designer interviews, the requirement is that you already have at least some experience under your belt. Mainly, this means that you have a few credits in published products. Experience in design contests, blogging about RPG design, and similar experience should also make you interesting for the readers to read about. We'll talk about your past (how you got started as a designer), your present (recent projects or ongoing projects assuming you can talk about them) and your future (what type of freelance work you're interested in).

* Long-term plans: I'm planning to organize a second Here Be Monsters sometime after GenCon. I also have other plans that may be interesting to some freelancers, but more about that later.

Well my friend, since the last time you sent out a call I sorta stopped being a freelancer (~_^) but I'd still be interested in givin' an interview if you've got an interest in me. I've got a few books with my name on 'em (Psionic Bestiary as a co-author, Bloodforge as a co-author, Psionics Augmented: Wilder on my own, and editing work for Path of War) and plenty of projects movin' along.

Excellent, congratulations! And yes, definitely interested, I'm very sure aspiring freelancers and other folks reading my blog want to hear how you got where you are now. :)

I'll send you the questions in a week or so.

Hi, there! I run Flaming Crab Games, a new 3PP. The company is less than a year old and has only a dozen titles out. However, I'd be more than happy to do answer some questions!

Excellent, I'll gladly interview you! I'll send you the questions within a week.

I suppose I should have asked, are those questions coming via PM or email?

PM is the default option, but email is also fine, you can PM me your email address if you prefer that.

I'll send the questions tomorrow (Tuesday) -- gotta get a few things out of the way first! Sorry to have kept you waiting.

A few people asked me about guest blogging and what to write about. Here are a few ideas:

  • Reviews about recent Pathfinder RPG compatible products (Paizo or 3PP). I have a slight preference for positive or generally positive reviews, so pick a product that you like. (I appreciate honesty but I want my blog to be supportive of freelancers, not to crush anyone's dreams.)
  • Interviews related to the Pathfinder RPG. Doesn't matter who you're interviewing as long as they're relevant and interesting.
  • Articles about any subset of the rules, such as grappling, social skills, or dirty tricks. You can discuss balance, complexity, and streamlining, or suggest house rules.
  • Articles related to RPG Superstar. It could be advice, statistics, or observations. (NB! Recently, there's been a lot of articles about RPGSS on my blog, so it's currently not very high up on my list.)
  • Articles about mechanics used in video games or other tabletop games that would be fun if they were also used in the Pathfinder RPG.
  • Articles about the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game.
  • Articles about 5E. (NB! Most of my readers play PF, and 5E is a bit of a sensitive subject, so tread carefully.)
  • Articles about any tools you use to make PF easier or more fun to play / GM / design for.
  • Any funny & interesting stories related to Pathfinder.

These are just examples, but whether you pick one of these ideas or come up with one of your own, please run it by me before you start writing. :)

TarkXT, sometime this week sounds good.

I'll start scheduling both the interviews and guest blog posts sometime soon. The first interview will be published next week, already got the answers for it. :)
