Anyone who read the Role Play Thread first and thought it is about a settlement close to EL – I’m sorry to disappoint. This initiative does try to promote PvE and not PvP. This is a sandbox and it is time that some RP and PvE actions gets into the spotlight for a few days.

So what is it then about?

At -12/09 see PFO Atlas or approx. 6 km South, 7 km west of TK is a monster hex with a bonedancer escalations. The closest settlement is Deadman’s Glen – 2 hexes NE of the monster hex. Canis Castrum is also just 2 hexes away to the west – but they have to make a large detour getting there.

So no surprise that the hex was left unchecked and has grown over time and is now reaching all the way east up to Emerald Lodge and it seems even Golgotha. We tend to clean out the hexes next to us – but this is not helpful as long as the monster hex itself isn’t taken down.

We should have the raw manpower to do it ourselves – but it is 6 hexes away and it needs some serious coordination for us to handle it. So maybe the best idea therefore is to do this together. There have been shocking little cross settlement PvE initiatives lately.

So – I hope to see players from Canis Castrum, the Pathfinder University, EBA, Golgotha and maybe even from Ozem, Stoneroot and Aragon to fight the Bonedancers.

This is a ‘simple’ escalation. The biggest thread are the Death Squads – and even these can be tackled solo if you are very, very careful. The only difficulty of this escalation is – it is far away from everyone and it has been unchecked for weeks – possibly since the start of the game – so not only is the hex itself 100% - many other hexes are at 100% as well.

I’m not doing an overarching organization. Hop on the Golaron Mumble server and find a group of 2 or 3 likeminded players and just kill goblins. Please try to form groups with members of other settlements if possible. The whole idea is about a cross settlement collaboration here.

The Emerald Lodge will reward the group which finishes the escalation with a T2 armour – take a pick of either: Dwarven Steel Banded +1, Captains Chain +1, Ornate Chainmail +0 or Embroidered Silk Robes +0 – if possible we will try to upgrade the robes to +1 or we might add Boiled Leather +0 to the mix – but these I can’t promise. Check before in your group who will get it. Unfortunately I’m not able to promise such armour for each participating member.

I don’t know how quickly the escalation will be defeated from 100% down to nothing – but no worry – there are loads of bonedancers close by which will keep us entertained for a while.

Oh – and write about your exploits (or death) in the RP thread. Keep it classy – keep it entertaining.

Being Chaotic Neutral, I would be all for putting a stop to the spread of just about anything, except for freedom, greed, lust and vengeance of course.

I am not 100% sure, but I think TEO killed this escalation last night, or I could be thinking of the Skeletal Uprising.

Goblin Squad Member

If it had Goblins, it was Bonedancer. Otherwise, Skeletal Uprising.

Edit: Though that would be pretty funny, a huge call to arms and we all show up to find an empty battlefield. TEO would get a lot of points for that one.

Goblin Squad Member

there are a few large escalations kicking around the map atm.

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

Still 100% - well - make this 99.9 and something. Just killed a wolf and we are down to 34990.3 out of 34500.

The escalation was at >20% directly NW of Emerald Lodge and from there every single hex was 100% that I crossed.

I have a base camp at 6.11 S 6.46 W for anyone to regain power. /w Thod if you want to use it.

Edit: I reckon there might be >50 hexes with 100% bonedancers - so enough for everyone.

Somehow I doubt this :D

mmmm yummy yummy divine points.

Sure, I'm down for some sanctioned murder.

By the way are these the ones who use the same new more powerful expendables that we use, hitting for like 400 points at range?

Thanks so far for all the replies in the roleplay thread. I really love to read what everyone so far has posted there. And it reconfirms to me that this game indeed will work. It is just us - the community - that has to ensure it works. GW will provide the sandbox and the sandbox will get better with time.

I hope we will see also some new players / weaker players. This isn't an escalation where you need to be ultra tough / ultra skilled - at least if you stay away from the death squads.

It will be interesting to know how long it takes to take out this escalaltion after the server comes back online. I'm fully aware it isn't yet prime gaming time for the US - but Europe should be active soon.

It likely is the worst day for me to have this started. It is my TT evening. But I was contemplating this since middle of last week and just never seemed to get to it as BWG and other issues here seemed to detract me.

So the questions now:

a) how long will it take to end this escalation in the mother hex
b) how many other escalations of bonedancers will be done after the initial hex has been cleared.

I will get a group of Pathfinder University players to come help out.

You may be surprised as there is no connection between new players and weaker players in PFU. We spent most of our time last night working on Ogg (Tier 2 just south east of RiverBank) so we can handle some silly goblins.

You have almost had my Staff.

Will try to make it this evening, Thod, but I'm swamped at work and not sure when I'll get home. I really ought to have been born rich, and then this pesky Work monster wouldn't be an issue. Life is so unfair....

Fighting side by side with Tink - loved it - unfortunately will have to be offline for a few hours. Leave me some bonedancers :) Well - enough in the ajacent hexes.

Stab stab stab.

I can confirm that the Bonedancers have spread west into the plains, we've recently been directing League folks to try and curb them around Canis Castrum and the more traveled paths out of the plains. Expect to see at least a few League folks show up.

No, this one is in full effect. when I left this evening it was almost down to 80%

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

I'm just logged in to check and it is at 0%

So who claims to have killed the escalation? Indeed it was 85% at midnight GMT and still slow gowing.

Next door is still 100% but that should now be a lot easier to clean up.

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

Okay - now I'm confused ...

The mother escalation was on 0% when I entered - went back to the hex east - 100% - kill a few monsters to get it to 99.9% and start to kill a Death Squad - and minutes later the whole escalation now has disappeared from that hex.

So is it over because the mother hex got defeated - has it just run it's cause?

The Aeonian League and members of Pathfinder University claim victory over the Bonedancer threat.

Dreggo and Galash also helped but had to leave before the boss fight.

Started around 9PM EST at above 75% and finished around 2:30AMish EST. That is a horrible hex for an escalation, way too much elevation deviation.

We have the best neighbors in Pathfinder University! #AeonianLeagueFTW :)

Well done!

Still several hexes near EL with 100% escalation ... 2 due east of EL for example

You are true heroes and I will tell the chronicler to write it up accordingly. Give him some time - he seems 'busy' right now.

I thought I just wanted to say a thank-you to everyone involved

Highlights for me
- we managed together to end a long running full developed escalation despite quick regrowth, an out of heavy travel hex and awkward navigation in the hex
- spontaneously pairing up with Gol Tink and slauthering a death squad was great - sorry it couldn't last longer due to RL
- spontaneously pairing up with a groupd from the PFU when I reentered the hex after my TT evening and running around with the group for at least an hour
- all the contributions in the RP thread and not a single derail
- the 'winners' are a group you don't hear that much about in the normal chatter here

Couple of observations (I'll repost them somewhere in the GW forums for the devs) as that is the first escalation I've tackled from that high a percent down to zero:

1. That took way too much time. Maybe it was just because of the difficulty of traversing that hex, but it was far from 'difficult' once we got it below 70%, it was just time consuming for our group of about 7-9 people and we were steamrolling every pack. Time consuming != difficult. I honestly will probably not bother doing that again for such an unrewarding escalation, I would rather dodge the mobs while running through hexes than waste the time to kill off a low level escalation. If they make this type of thing a required maintenance task without adjusting it...idk. Maybe it's a population problem? But again if it's just a time waster task why bother regardless of scale?

2. Kinda unrewarding, we did one pass through the hex for a handful of undeath squads...and they never spawned again. After that it was white mobs with a yellow every once in awhile. We also had an event that never spawned it's mobs (Bonedancer Heroes).

3. As far as we could tell the final boss did not give anyone an expendable, possible bug?

4. Respawn rate was pretty good, very little 'searching' time, but not nearly enough event spawns to break up the monotony.

5. Knocked out a bunch of achievements, which is always good, but incidental to the endeavor.

6. Base Camp was pretty handy even though we ended up not really stashing 'good' T2 loot like we had hoped.

7. Mini Map visual distance for parties is annoying when randomly acquiring helpers or folks you just ran into. While we were mostly on voice comms there was a lot of 'no i'm over by the lion icons other foot' chat and it was annoying due to the difficulty of traversing the particular hex in question.

There may just be too few mob-hunting players to make the task manageable for so many escalations.

Especially as those mob-hunting players keep aiming for better and better loot and neglecting escalations with unpromising loot.

It is way too easy to think an escalation is someone else's problem until it is too late, and yes when the terrain is both unfriendly AND unfamiliar it can be aggravating to hunt in a new area.
