They have to die – every last of them. By night and day the shadow of evil is getting closer and it starts to engulf us from all directions. We should have acted while the evil was still small and easy to fight – but we felt secure in our position.

This was wrong – and the time of no actions is over. We will fight for our survival. We won’t any longer just set here and watch the evil happen around us without any actions. Emerald Lodge – it is time to go to war. We will send out couriers to all settlements who are friendly to us to help us in our endeavour.

On our own we are weak – and this is why we haven’t acted earlier. But once we swell our ranks with armies from other lands – nothing will be able to stand in our way. We will set a bounty for each evil slain. And whoever defeats the evil leadership behind it will get a special price.
It is time that the Emerald Lodge raises it’s banner and marches ahead of the troops.

Time to stomp out the evil – time to eradicate it. Evil hear us – your time has come.

battlecry:
Evil die - Bonedancers – die !!!

Guildenstern was in the tavern writing letters negotiating a trade for some particularly hard-to-find items, furrowed brow, looking through recipes and scrolls spread out on the table, many with drops of candle wax or circular stains from his mug of mead with a few drops of Emerald Spirit (it still gave a hefty kick when mixed into his beverage, but with a much smaller chance of waking up three days later unable to see straight). When he heard the bells ring, it took him a second to remember that this was a call to arms... one he'd never heard before. He was no warrior, but he often had to defend himself out on the road. Emerald Lodge was generous in providing him a place to hang his hat, giving much and asking little in return, so he didn't hesitate in shoving all his old worn-out scrolls back into his bag, picking up his bow, and stepping out of the tavern to get ready for battle. There was Theodum, ringing the bells and giving a rousing speech. The bumbling old wizard was more determined than Guildenstern had ever seen him.

Scouting the area Thod sends a message back to Theodum. I killed the first few wolfs as well as a few goblins.
As instructed I have made a base camp just outside the target area and close to the 'Missing hero' tower. I gave a quick prayer to the missing hero as it might bring luck before battle.
I don't think we have to call on him - the times are not that dire right now.
All I'm now awaiting are further troops. I hope the call is heard by others. They might have received it unprepared - but I still hope at least to hear words of support and who will come or when to meet up with them.
Please keep me informed about any other developments. The bone dancers have spread into every single area I crossed - driving ahead of them any other monsters you would expect.
So you might be right that we have to start with them here.

“You... you want me to murder them? But I thought you said...”

“We know what we said Tink, this is different. They're just goblins. You are allowed to kill these ones.”

“So goblins are fine, but humans and dwarves are off limits?”

“Yes. No. Kind of. Look, just go clear them out.”

“Wait, is this a height thing? Because I don't think I'm OK with killing them if this is a height thing”

“It's not a height thing! You know what, how about this. They stole your shinies. They stole your shinies and they are refusing to give them back.”

“What!? But I worked so hard on getting them all just the right amount of shiny! Lemme at 'em!”

One of the students came rushing into her room without even knocking:
"Professor, the Emerald Lodge is gathering an army against the Bonedancers!"

She looked up from her scroll and arched an eyebrow. "And why should that excite us?"

He stopped in his tracks, his enthusiasm giving way to confusion. "Well, they are a threat to travellers and civilians, and getting rid of them must surerly be a good act. Also, they Emerald lodge will reward all who participate."

Her eyebrow rose another notch. Disappointment. "So in your opinion we are either crusaders or mercenaries but you don't know which one?"

Flustered, his brain finally caught up. She was testing him - again. He took a deep breath and considered his arguments.
"We are indeed a learning institution and not taking sides in politics and warfare. But in my opinion we are also presented with an opportunity here. With several opportunities, in fact. One: a chance to observe and practice various military tactics in the field - we are always told experience is a cruical part of the learning. Two: an unprecedented chance to study Bonedancer magic, which I'm sure we know preciously little about. Three: um... students of healing would also get some ..ahem.. valuable field experience. Four: diplomacy and politics students... well, trying to get all these settlements to cooperate, i'm sure that will be interesting to analyse. Five: all of this can be done in a manner that is economically sustainable, with potential for extra dividends, as well as a favorable risk/reward ratio..."
He broke off, seeing her satisfied smile. "Should I go on, or is there sufficient reason for excitement yet?"

She chuckled, before turning her attention back down on her scroll. "Excitement is hardly the goal here. But if you write a summary of you points I will bring them to the Grandmaster's attention. Is half an hour sufficient for the task?"

On his way out, he noticed the scroll she was reading had the Emerald Lodge seal on it. Dang, she already knew. How come they can be so quick to know and yet so slow to make up their minds?

Theodum - I managed to slay a few goblins, goblindogs, wolfs and skeletons. It seems to hardly make a dent into their population so far - but most of it is scouting out and I ran out of time before I needed a rest - having rushed here from the Emerald Lodge - next time give me more of a warning ahead.
I found a death squad as well as a warchief. I haven't decided yet if I should take them on or if I better wait. I hope you message has arrived with everyone and that they send help - surely you don't expect me to do this on my own.
There seem to be good targets for weak soldiers as well - not everything here is too dangerous. But you have to stay away from the shamans - I killed a few - but my armour hardly helps against them - nasty little creatures.

From down the hall Hoffman heard the 'discussion' between Foxglove and his 'student' - Oh boy, here we go again.

Hoffman yells down the hall to Foxglove: Are you going to go and keep them out of trouble or will I have to go? Last night our 'favorite' student died at least half a dozen times, even after I got him his new spell book. Maybe I should figure out how to train our wizards in how to dress up and pretend to be fighters. I think I have an extra pot around here they can wear.

And don't even get me started about the smell from that darn donkey that follows us around...

Felsen threw his legs over the bench and slapped his hands on the table, abruptly breaking the silence of the mess hall. “Draxxon! Are we Going?” He grinned ear to ear.

The dour dwarf looked up at him and squinted, “Going where?”

“South!”

“South where?”

“Theodum’s call?” Felson seemed shocked at his friend’s lack of awareness. “He’s put out a call to come help clear some bonedancers.”

“Maybe.” Draxxon seemed unusually dour, even for a dwarf.

“Maybe?” Felsen’s voice was incredulous. “It’s goblins! And undead! Maybe even undead goblins! How can you turn it down?”

“Cal’s in a snit.”

Felsen cringed. “Really? He--he’s not talking about--you know?”

“What? Moving again?”

“Shhhhhhhhh! Don’t even whisper that.”

“I don’t know what he’s thinking. I just know he’s in a snit.”

Well--what happened?”

“He tried to play a joke the other day. It fell flat. And got a bunch of peoples panties in a twist.”

Felsen snorted, “Cal tried to play a joke--And it fell flat--and somebody is surprised?” Draxxon glared at him without responding. “Fine. Whatever. Cal should stick to long boring lectures and leave the jokes to Dante. Anyway, goblins? And undead? Surely if anything will get him out of a snit, it’s the chance to kill undead?”

“We’ll see.”

Noooooooo - the spellbooks - don't destroy them. Written words shouldn't be burned. Never - that is heresy.
What have I done - why did I let lose such uneducated fighters.

Deianira scratched out another line and wondered if it was still to early for wine. "There's a reason bards drink," she muttered.

"No drinking.". Brigheibh tugged at her braid until she looked up. "Come on. Theodum's declared war on the bonedancers. Were you paying any attention? At all?"

"I'm composing!"

"Obviously not, if you're thinking about alcohol. Look, he sent messages to everyone. Brighthaven, Golgotha, hell, maybe Thornkeep for all I know. It'll be big. Biggest battle yet. Don't you want to be part of it? Think of the songs!"

"I am thinking of the... Wait. Golgotha's gonna be there?". At his nod, she narrowed her eyes. "Good. It's their fault I've got this damn song stuck in my head. The least they can do is help get it unstuck."

Thod looked around - fighting side by side with Tink while waiting for Deianira and Brighheibh - would they come - or would they clean out the bonedancers closer to home.

Killing the first undead squad had been difficult - but the second one with Tinks help was simple.

But now he had to make a break - Alirya needed some escorting to her riding lessons.

Lone Wolf had just sat on the soft bed at the Inn and pulled off his boots; weathered and muddied from weeks of scouting the wilderness for resources, aiding those in need, and clearing beasts and monsters from travel routes. While the bustling of the settlement made him uncomfortable, the good hot meal at the tavern was welcomed, and he had been looking forward to resting his bones in a dry bed for the first time in weeks. His companion, the large black wolf named Tacitus, lay on the floor by the fireplace in the modest room, his large paws sprawled out over the roughhewn wooden floorboards.

Lone Wolf fiddled with the small parchment message the tavernkeep had handed him just before he retired to his room. The dark green sealing wax and the familiar seal it bore gave it away immediately; a message from Theodum of the Emerald Lodge. Lone Wolf pealed the parchment at the seal and opened the message. In the fluent, graceful penmanship that is typical of Theodum, he read:

“Friend, though it’s been merely a fortnight since you last paid visit to us, we request your support in an expedition to the West of Emerald Lodge to put down a Bonedancer uprising near Deadman’s Glen. Your scouting abilities and longbow would be most welcome. By the time this message reaches you, the legions of Emerald Lodge will already be marching to that place. – T of E.L.”

He folded the parchment, stood with a mild sigh, and stuffed it in his belt pouch hanging from the mantel.

“Ready Tacitus?” The wolf lifted his large head and perked up his ears. “Let’s go!”

The Wolf jumped at the sound of it. Lone Wolf paid his coppers to the tavern keep and headed out of town towards the west, the large black wolf close by his side. As the sun set over the mountains of Brighthaven, a smile came to his face; for once again he was out into the wilds, back where he truly belonged.

Ziggumesh woke up in a ditch and was missing his pants, again. He completely forgot he had a date with Theodum to slay goblins.

Hoffman looks around and realized Foxglove hasn't even answered him... Foxglove must be off writing another song. You can't count on faculty to do anything once they get sucked into their research. bleh.

Students take your last practice shots, armor up and lets go! Grip, get that bridle off and leave the donkey here. Or wear the bridle, I don't care.

Nactillius, you are in charge of the group. Don't kill M_K too much. Rynnik, stop drinking and start killing. I'll follow you all and keep you out if trouble (as best as I can).

Padric, Padric, Padric! I know I promised you your nice new armor, but stop shining your silver and kill things to pay for it.

"It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight you see a sight that almost stops your heart"

Bah! As if that could ever be the start of a popular song. Gotta come up with something better, or Coach will be all smug next week.

She snaps out of her thoughts and looks around her room. I was just going to say something to Hoffmann before I got distracted.. oh yes

"Umm, Hoff? If you think we should respond to the call of... Hoff? You there?"
Rats! They left without me. Again. But I was going to.. I mean, right after I'd finished.. Oh well. They'll come back. At least some of them.

(sorry, sick today, no shape to play)

These were not your average skeletons.

Grip had seen, and dispatched, many of the undead in his travels. But these 'Undead Adventurers' shot powerful magic bolts and took much more of a beating before crumbling to dust. The group was up to the task though and had eliminated at least a dozen of the camps....

"Oi! Lookout!" Grip dove to the side as Padric took an accidental blast from M_K's staff. He took a moment to untangle himself from the bridle, then sat in confusion for a moment.

This was gonna take a while...

There was finally silence.

No goblin chanting, no clattering of bones, no goblin dog howls. Just pristine silence, the true sign of an ending.

It was not the shining knights of Brighthaven, the Mad Orcs and Gnomes of Golgatha, or the scholars studying the Emerald Spire who swept away this blight.

No, such honors go to a handful of ethically questionable men, a trio of tradesman, a pair of wandering mages, and an unlikely set of students. They were the ones who brought an end to the Bonedancer Warchief and his mad machinations.

With their work complete they return to their homes: to build, to study, to contemplate, and to wait for the next time they would hear the call, knowing that someday, they will be called again.

Yesterday, the Emerald Lodge's call for adventurers had gone out. When Golgotha's blondes (identical twins who supposedly had even more identical sisters) were told of it, they were also informed that one of them would have to stay back and guard Golgotha.

Midnight and Savage Grace asked "How shall we decide who gets to adventure?"

As usual, the other residents of Golgotha shouted "Lingerie Pillowfight!"

Today, word trickled into Golgotha that the bone dancers had retreated, but many Golgothan residents were still enjoying the "combat" next to the bank and chose not to interrupt it with the latest news.

Laurethoron sat in the tavern in Keeper's Pass, sipping her ale slowly. How did she miss this message from Theodum? Sure, she had been keeping to herself lately, another forlorn elf making her way around the Echo Pass Mountains area, looking for adventure where she could find it. Sure, she had teamed up with other adventurers from time to time, fighting evil where it was found pushing on the boundaries of civilization. Mordant Spire elves, Hanspur cultists, goblins, bandits, mercenaries, ogres - they all died on the shafts of her arrows or the blade of her greatsword.

But there would have been time for Theodum. Surely there would have been time to help fight off the Bonedancers if only Laurethoron had heard in time. But loner ways mean she will miss these things. She would have to make an effort to visit Keeper's Pass more often for news. And perhaps a visit to the Emerald Lodge is in order? Laurethoron in not a Pathfinder Society type, but their goals are similar to hers. She would have to find time to visit the Lodge and help out the next time evil rears its head in that area and Theodum sends out another call.

With a smile, Laurethoron looked down into her empty mug. Barkeep, a round for everyone!
