Ring of Regeneration Interactions

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

I'm sure this has been asked before, but...

The Ring of Regeneration lets you recharge a card at the start of your turn. How does this sequence with cards (scenarios, locations, persistent barriers) that cause you to discard at the start of your turn? Is there a set order that they occur in, do you get to pick the order, or do they happen simultaneous. In other words, can the Ring of Regeneration recharge other cards that you discarded at the start of your turn. I checked the rulebook, but in the turn phases section, there doesn't seem to be any specific rules for what you do at the start of your turn.

When an order isn't specified, you get to choose the order. Thus if at the start of the turn you want to discard a card due to the location and then recharge it with the ring, you can.

Finish One Thing Before You Start Something Else. You do many things in a specific order, and you need to finish doing each thing before you do the next thing. You move before you explore, not after. If a spell used in a check can be recharged, finish the first check before you attempt your check to recharge it. If a villain requires two sequential combat checks, finish the first before starting the second. Don't start a new process until you've finished the last one. (That said, if the game doesn't specify an order for things, you decide the order.)

(italics mine). Thus, since there is no specified order to start of turn checks (besides that they happen after you advance the blessings deck but before you can give a card to another character -- see page 8 of the S&S rulebook), you get to choose the order in which they apply.

It's in the back of the rulebook, page 29, under Finish One Thing Before You Start Something Else (last sentence): (That said, if the game doesn't specify an order for things, you decide the order.)

If you're told to do two different things "at the start of your turn" (like take damage and use the Ring), then you get to choose the order. So yes, you can take the damage first and then heal it second.

Fun fact: if your party sticks together you can keep healing and passing the Ring around on each character's turn.

Your question reminds me of a similar one I had but haven't asked yet...
I probably should while I'm thinking about it.

Hm, odd that they'd put a rule like that at the very end of the book after the suggested decklists. In future rulebooks that might bear mentioning in the turn order section.

Thank you.
