Newbie GM - Carrion Crown, Reign of Winter.... and Maybe Rise of the Runelords

Recruitment

Hi, Darrian Masters here! Though definitely not the Dungeon Maestro yet.

I am looking for players that will suffer (Not really... I hope) a newbie DM, but first I will need a vote to surmise what Campaign I put into motion before the character selection. I am most interested in running Carrion Crown or Reign of winter, but am willing to run Rise of the Runelords if that's what the people want (though I will need slightly more convincing to do so).

I also have a homemade campaign in the making, running around a band of lost (and slightly amnesiac) Azlanti, magical anomalies, and the ever looming threat of the Tarrasque in the North..... but as I have said before I am a newbie GM and I will not make you suffer my idle fantasies... unless you really want to.

With that said, please Vote! The voting will conclude in 1-2 weeks time, or until it is such a time that I have surmised what has the most overwhelming support.

If you have any questions, please ask them.

Hi, and welcome to the GM Club. I'd be more than happy to play Reign of Winter.

So what kind of game are looking for? High-Powered? Low to Mid Fantasy? Standard Pathfinder? What are you looking at as far as character creation guidelines?

um, it is suggested that before you commit to an AP as a newbie DM, you run one of the short modules first. modules there are 16 page ones, 32 page ones and other paged modules, though it is suggested you don't go above the 32 page ones.

Master of the Fallen fortress, and risen from the sands and dawn of the scarlet sun can be downloaded as PDFs on this paizo site for free if money is an issue.

Howdy GM,
If this is your first PbP, I highly, highly suggest running a module before you attempt an AP. There are bunches of Free RPG day modules available on the site.

PbP games are very different than F2F games.

Also, read the guides Here and here for better info on the PbP format.

This guide is also good advice for running a successful recruitment.

Edit: Ninjaed by Doublegold.

Hello! I am still a newbie GM myself, so I think I know where you're coming from. Tackling an AP (especially for your first game) is hard work; DoubleGold and GM Niles are giving you sound advice. Granted, you shouldn't be discouraged if you're absolutely set on running one.

That being said, I think the best thing you could do is just pick the AP you're running yourself and go from there. It's no fun if the GM isn't enjoying what they're running. And no matter which one you end up picking, the recruits will come in droves. Newer ones seem a tad more popular, but there'll likely be no shortage of applicants regardless of choice.

All Paizo Pathfinder is welcome, 20 - 25 points (haven't decided yet) and advancement will depend on the adventure path.

3rd party content will be considered on a case by case basis. Common Guidelines for such will include being available on www.d20pfsrd.com (or if you're Lucky I have the pdf already) and not future tech (gunslinger is a good upper limit).

Further guidelines will be given after the voting has concluded.

Thank you for your concern but I am not so extremely wet behind the ears. I have DMed many DND games and have DMed precisely 3 pathfinder games (First one was not successful, one incomplete due to player separation, and one continuing (and in my opinion so far, a successful game)), but I have played in many more Pathfinder games as a player. Thank you for the suggestions though. I will keep those in mind.

This is my second pbp, my first GMing. I have seen the first two guides... but I have not seen the last one... Thanks for the heads up.

I understand that this is a great undertaking that I am placing on my shoulders and will try not to disappoint. Thank you for your guys concern though and thank you for giving me suggestions.

Reign of winter for me

Oh, and I am only expecting 4 players.... at least for now.

My vote would be Carrion Crown, but I could work something up for Wrath.

oh, okay, didn't know you DMed before. When you said newbie DM, I took at you never DMed before since you did not give the past games that you DMed.

What all have you DMed before, like specific modules and stuff if any or just all homebrews? And I'm interested in Reign of Winter

Sczarni

I'd be down for Reign of Winter.

Carrion Crown followed by Rise of the Rune Lords in order of alternative preferences

Would love to see a reign of winter campaign.

Scarab Sages

I haven't played any of the 3... so i would be up for them.

Good luck!

Sorry for the confusion. What I meant by newbie was the fact that I only DMed Pathfinder a little and the fact that this is my first pbp that I am doing as a DM. I should have been a little bit more clear.... Anyway, your concerns weren't out of place. I'm not too confident when it comes to Pathfinder yet, but this is part of the reason why I am doing this.

The failed game was Dragon's Demand (kinda my bad), the cut short game was the Emerald Spire Superdungeon (people going on and doing other things) and my current game is Homebrew mixed with a module. I can't remember the name of the module at the moment, its been a while since we completed and got away from it. It also seems that we are going from week to month now, but everyone has got stuff going for them that is taking up more time. One of my players is now a part of the Airforce and was officially accepted about 2 weeks ago. He now has a lot on his plate, but I have high hopes for his career and we still play the game when he has time.

I'd be very interested in Reign of Winter (can't get a group with a gm that keeps it going), though I would possibly go for Carrion crown as well.

I also forgot about a very short game of We Be Goblins!

I'm kinda surprised how fast I got responses. It also seems that most of you want to play Reign of Winter. If this keeps up (about 10 votes total or so), I will set up the true recruitment tomorrow or the day after.

Never played any of them, would love to. So... I guess mark an additional vote for all 3.

Reign of winter would be a fun one to play.

Pbping as a GM is easier than people make it out to be, especially if you've face-to-face experience. The biggest problems are maps, attention span (you have to put in a small constant effort for a long time), and the fact that answering questions and skill checks take more time, so it's a good idea to put out as much information as you can think of (maybe spoilered with skill DCs) in your first post.

So I guess we can get this show on the road in a little bit. Expect the true recruitment thread later today or sometime tomorrow for Reign of Winter. I will post a link here that leads to it, so don't worry about sifting through threads trying to find it.
