Ramifications of Reload Speed

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So reload speed is a big deal with Crossbows, as well as slings, and most importantly Firearms. Feats are devoted to be able to get the same rate of fire as a bow, leaving a character with less feats to devote to actual damage, or utility.

So what if there was no reload speed for these weapons? Firearms would probably be the biggest problem most would say, but by the time Gunslingers or someone proficient with firearms reaches their second iterative attack, they'll like already be reloading as a free action anyways.

What do you guys think? Is reload speed a necessary evil or just one of the many problems that Pathfinder has inherited?

The Exchange

Sohei Gun-wielders would be the most broken class.
(add full Strength bonus to damage while flurrying)

Some other mechanics are "balanced" around the base reload times, and the feat/class/resources cost to normalize them to bows. Changing them would change that balance.

Also, people on here already flip out over a firearm even being able to be reloaded more than once a round (or battle, depending on degree of insistence on "realism"), so there would be vocal popposition.

I hate to crush somebody's dreams, because I had at one point thought this was a possibility too.

But...*sniffle*...Sohei can only get Weapon Training in (and thus Flurry with) bows, crossbows, monk weapons, polearms, spears, or thrown weapons.

The Exchange

Be a Sohei 6 / Fighter 5.
Done.
