How to Make Ghosts?

Rules Questions

So I have searched all over and I have yet to find any kind of a spell, or ability, or class or anything that makes a creature into a ghost. You would think that this would be included in Create Undead or Greater Create Undead but nope, nowhere. So does anybody know of any way to create a ghost in pathfinder?

Ghost tend to be plot related and they usually have some tragedy that keeps them from passing on. That is why you are not seeing any ghost by simply casting a spell.

You could utilize material from here....

There isn't any standard spell for creating intelligent undead.

You know, apart from, say: Create Undead. ;)

Which does not create intelligent undead for the most part save in very specific circumstances, such as making a hueceva from an evil cleric.

Also ghosts are generally place bound, they're tied into the location of their death. Haunts are essentially lesser versions of ghosts, themewise.

Read Tanith Lee's Ghosthunter novel Kill the Dead for some great ideas...

Actually, there is a spell that does that, albeit in the Words of Power variant rules. The effect word Life Leech is a 4th level magus/sorc/wizard/witch spell that is equivalent to Enervation, but if the subject dies from the negative levels, they rise as a ghost 1d4 days later.

AH HAAAA that dear Critcal is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks man, I owe you one :)

I don't count Words of Power because you pretty much make anything using them without restraint.... or balance.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

wot

Literally every undead on the list of undead you can make with Create Undead, sans the Hollow Helm and Rajput Ambari, is an intelligent undead.

Even the Crawling Hand has an Int score (albeit only Int 2).

Check the lists again. Nowhere on the Create Undead or Create Greater Undead list is there any mention of making ghosts. There is no entry for it whatsoever.

Check my post again, because I never said there was.

He was responding to LazarX's claim that Create Undead can't make intelligent undead (which it can). Not the question in the OP of whether there was a spell to create ghosts (for which I can't think of any off the top of my head.)

An Int of 2 is not what I would call "intelligent".

Even by that metric (which is wrong) that still makes only FOUR of a list of like 16 creatures non-intelligent undead.

Hardly "for the most part" unless this is opposite day.

That's where you and the Pathfinder rules have a difference of opinion.
