Here is the first draft of my rules for Pathfinder Power Rangers. I'd appreciate any feedback and criticism!

ALL OF MY YES

While I love this idea, it's hard to criticize from a serious point of view. Obviously this is massively overpowered as the overall power would be like playing a gestalt Summoner/Summoner(Synthesist). Though, I'm imagining the campaign this would be used in would likely have equally stronger enemies to face in order to keep up the challenge.

Yeah, it's a significant boost in power, but that's kind of the point. The GM should be prepared for this, and go wild with monster creation, more than any other type of game.

In order to encourage morphing at higher levels, I was planning on giving the monsters DR/Morphed, do they'd be very hard (but possible) to beat unmorphed.

Is class template a 3.5 thing? I've never heard of it. This sounds like it would be a class all of it's own, an awesome class.

I agree with 0puko, too powerful. maybe less power points. I think that the zords and megazords come too soon.

Lantern Lodge RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32

No, a class template is my clunky, awkward name for a set of extra abilities added to any existing class, similar to, though not quite a gestalt.
I guess I could make this into a full fledged class and just gestalt it, but then the different Rangers would be much more mechanically homogeneous, sharing the same skill points, saving throws, etc.
This way allows a rogue or ninja Power Ranger to still be a much better skill monkey than a cleric Power Ranger, and the paladin or monk Power Ranger to be harder to affect with spells.
I think it also cuts down Min/Maxing, because the Ranger gives the same bonuses to nearly every class, giving 1/2 HD BAB non-martial classes a slight bump while in Ranger Form to compensate for the Stat array.

Now, if you were playing a Power Ranger game, would you want to wait until 10th level (best case scenario, half the game!) to summon your Zord? And even longer to make a Megazord? The intent is for a high powered game, I reckon a Power Ranger game will be operating at CR+1 to CR+4, depending on the phase. I'd be happy to run a play test on the boards, if anyone is interested!

Liberty's Edge

I'm not personally a fan of Power Rangers, but this looks to be a well-designed set of rules for those who wish to play in a high-powered game. Naturally, the DM should be adjusting accordingly for the extra power, but I have no problems otherwise.

If it's a racial template, it shouldn't have levels. It would have a set of bonuses and abilities - done of which scale with hit dice. This could become that without reinventing the entire thing.

I'd be happy to take you up on that offer SirGeshko! I think it'd actually be better to have zords and such come in a bit earlier, with higher levels unlocking more powerful weapons, forms, and combinations. Anyone who comes in already knows what they're expecting at the start, no need to hold off on the basics after all.

It's a nice idea but it needs a lot of work. Correct me if I misinterpreted the following, but my problems are:

+6 STR?????? Add raging power attack great sword barbarian and you need at least + 2 CR to keep up. That will completely devalue casters.

Lets Finish This says it is a blast, but list no range. Also that will allow smart parties to one shot most bosses with out large HP increases. Do they have to be adjacent to each other? What if everyone has swords?

Casters. I cannot see any reason for a caster to take this class. Any reason at all, except for a mount.

You don't actually say it anywhere, Power Pool works like evolution points of the base summoner with the base summoner list?

+2 armour bonus at level 2 is scary make it +1 at level 2.

What happens if I also take synthesist summoner?

This is terrifyingly high powered in its current form. Even if that was the intent I would not want to GM for a party of these things.

Lantern Lodge RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32

Goddity, thank you for your feedback!
I've added range and an adjacent requirements to Lets Finish This. If everyone has swords, then the combined weapon will be a sword-cannon or a gatling sword. Given its limited uses per day, I'd imagine smart parties would want to use to be sure they take their opponent out. If it becomes a problem, the GM can create monsters that dodge, deflect, block, or reflect the blast until worn down or a specific condition is met, just like in the show. Or make sure the party stays separated, so they can't form the Combo Weapon.
I've added language to the Power Pool to reference the eidolon evolution list, and prohibited the Summoner class to Power Rangers. There's just too much complexity there, and I'm considering restricting classes that receive mounts, animal companions, and familiars to choosing options that do not include those creatures (domain instead of animal companion, bonded item instead of familiar, etc). I don't recall a single Power Ranger with a sentient companion creature, other than the Zords/vehicles.

Keep in mind that morphing takes away ALL of your equipment. Weapons, armor, knicknacks, etc... everything but a brightly colored suit, a morpher, and later, a single weapon (or pair). The bonuses need to be higher to counter that.
Just curious, do you ban the eidolon in your games? Because an eidolon gets a +2 armor bonus off the bat, and a +2 increase at level 2, just like the Ranger Form. I don't see the equivalent of leather armor (10 gp) being scary. The +6 Strength, I could see some concerns. I might drop that to +4 or even +2, depending on the outcome of the playtest.

I'm not concerned with martial characters outshining casters in this type of campaign. There aren't many (any?) 'caster' Power Rangers, so it is thematic, as well as a refreshing change from the typical caster > martial Pathfinder game.

I'll start a playtest recruitment thread this weekend, and message interested parties with a link.

Power Rangers are rare even among adventurers. That's why everyone is surprised when the silver ranger shows up, ruining the bad guys carefully thought out plan. For all anyone knows, they morph up 10 levels.

You can have the silver ranger(or whatever you call him) come from an alternate universe that the bad guys already crushed.

You have the added excuse of saying,"because...magic"

Good counter points. If you are going to say no weapons then it should grant automatic improved unarmed strike, else the fighters are useless, the monk is king, and the casters are in second.

Does this just remove equipped gear, so I can just hand my great axe to the wizard, shift, and take it back?

You forget the difference between natural armour and real armour: real armour is worth spell cast penalties and armour check penalties.

The most important thing is that if you lose weapons, sword and board or two handed fighters get very upset. So do single weapon duelists. Monks cry with joy. Wizards still kill everything at 20th level, but nothing is going to change that.

More counter points. In lost galaxy the red ranger picked up a magic disk that turned into 2 daggers, and he was able to combine their powers with the suit and sabers. The suit operates with force fields and is reformed from their clothes or something. All special qualities are retained, just the deflection bonus and pluses are raised to appropriate levels.

I f%%~ing hate this show so much. My kids used to watch it endlessly on netflix. They still pretend to be power rangers.

My advice that this be a typical template instead of a leveling class is based on some occasions in the show where the rangers get into combat while not using their ranger powers. This implies that the normal characters are slowly leveling up over time and that the morphing abilities grant a massive boost while in use.

I suppose I liken it to a super-powered version of an alchemist drinking his mutagen more than anything else.

Now it needs a variant where the item is a belt and you become Kamen Rider.

And a mythic ability called NINJOR!

I've got room for two Rangers over on MythWeavers, the playtest seems to be going great!

The idea and the execution is interesting.

Personally though, I feel that this would have been better off if executed as a class than a class template, as the equipment related and other questions shown above.

If you're going by the theme of the show, the class should probably be built around the martial artist monk archetype, as all the Power Rangers seem to be martial artists of some sort. They're among the least gear dependent classes. and I think being a spellcaster of any type takes much away from the theme. That would be more a role for the team Mentor figure.

Did you read the actual Player's guide, or just this thread? Because I incorporated a lot of the advice from this thread into the document.

The reason I didn't go with a full Ranger class was the Rangers would be too homogenous, kind of like a party of all clerics or all bards. It would be more difficult to plug them into the Pathfinder assumptions for overcoming challenges.

As far as spellcasters taking away from the theme, in several seasons, the Rangers had powers they could use even when unmorphed. Dino Thunder and Jungle Fury come to mind. And then of course you have Mystic Force...

I'm tempted to create a chrome ranger. I would have to tell the GM that he's secretly an alien android from a parallel dimension. :)

I'm willing to work with you on this idea. Can you PM me (Geshko) on MythWeavers?

I only had time to read the Google doc, admittedly.

I signed up on MythWeavers, but I have no idea how to send a personal message.

I found how to send a message. I still don't know how to navigate the site.

I responded... I don't have my laptop on me, so I can post pics and links, but I'll do my best.
The two most important areas are the inbox (which you've located, the envelope near your name that lets you send and receive messages) and the tab at the top called User CP (stands for Control Panel).
The User CP displays alerts when you get a message, and shows your subscribed forums and threads.

On the main screen, the first sub-forum is called "Games and Ads". Clicking on that, displays all the games currently advertising. The column on the left lists the game systems advertising, and clicking on a system filters the list to only those games. So, click on Pathfinder, then look for "Who is that mysterious Ranger?". That's the ad.

At the top right, you'll see a series of buttons, and if you mouse over the, a popup will tell you what they are. One, "Add Subscription", looks like a blank page with an envelope on it, and a plus on top of that. This will add the thread to your subscriptions, and let you find it more easily from User CP.
Once you've subscribed, go back to the ad, and look at the top left, just under my avatar pic (a wolf). You'll see the name of the game (Power Rangers: Golarion) and "Forum". Clicking on Forum will tale you to the message board for my game. The Sub-forum Characters is where you would "Post a new Thread" and name it after your character.

Let me know if you have any more difficulty.
