Advice

MY GM has allowed me to give my gorilla animal companion any feats he Is capable of actually using. We need a ranged character. I will let him fill the roll.
I thought of a Ballista or a composite long bow for the massive str he will get. I also thought of a gun the double hack-butt for 6d6 against touch AC. I thought the gun would be better since his dex isn't as high to hit. I have enough money for the gun i just wanted to know if it was a good idea. and just let him take gun feats.
and can you get a mithril weapon? to make it one size smaller? we are level 5 as of right now in a kingmaker campaign. and im pretty sure a double hack-butt will come in handy. or for someone who has spring attack or a mounted guy who keeps getting out of range.

Ehm ... "animal" companions may be smarter than your average bear, but they're still animals.

If this is a genuine thread and not a spoof ... and I'm really not sure if it is ... I'd be laying down a veto on that idea instantly if I ran that campaign.

Firstly, firing a bow is not something you just do. You don't just pick it up and use it. It takes practice. That's what weapon proficiencies are meant to illustrate. That you've received enough training with these weapons that you can use them.

Where in the jungle did you teach your gorilla (an animal which walks on all fours and which can only walk upright for short periods of time) to grab a bow and fire it?

If you want it to have some kind of ranged attack, teach it to pick up rocks to fling at the enemy. Getting hit in the face by 40 lbs of solid rock should easily hurt as badly as being hit by an arrow.

Go for the "throw anything"-feat and have the gorilla pick up whatever is lying around ... rocks, pieces of armor, furniture, enemies, you name it ... and lob it at the bad guys.

The idea of a gorilla with a firearm is, sorry to say this, amusing in its poetic justice but also completely out there.

Loading a firearm is a fairly complicated thing.

"You, Bongo, take bullet. Bite, no swallow. Put bullet in tube AFTER ... NO!! Dammit Bongo, I said AFTER you put the powder in. Then you take the ramrod and ... OW OW OW OW STOP RAMMING IT INTO -ME-!"

Just ... let the gorilla throw rocks, dude. Your life will be a lot less complicated that way.

IT has been talked about already the gorilla can use a gun or bow of what ever weapon i can if he has the feat. If his int is at least 3. I want him to evolve like Cesar in planet of the apes. also you can "rear" a animal from a pup. i have 8 months to teach him right now of down time. And should i have him walk around with a quiver of javelins? and the stats of a rock arnt better than a arrow. I thought about throwing weapons but would that be a good build? i got him from a circus and he threw axes. So is a throwing build viable or better than a bow or gun?

Well, throwing weapons -would- include his strength bonus to damage, and gorillas are massively powerful apes. I'd reckon he'd do a -lot- of damage with thrown weapons.

i think you still use dex to hit i believe, so he would miss very often. do you have any suggestions? on feats or items? how much damage would a rock do?

belt of mighty hurlin

Silver Crusade

You could tag team it and get a small siege engine which the gorilla carries and loads, but which you fire.

yeah i thought of this but he could actually do it him self it only takes one person to load. but the other attacks. i thought about duel wielding pistols but he gets no + dex damage with them. i think throwing is a good way to go for now.

would i have to take the same feats as a person with a bow dose? rapid shot, precise shot, point blank shot?

can you two weapon fight with thrown weapons? getting 2 throwing attacks?

Yes.

I can't find weapon size or damage for rocks or random things. How do I know the damage dice? Do I just give him chakram and deal 2d6? Can I make the size one larger for 3d6? It would be a large size weapon then.
So feats would be: throw anything, two weapon fighting, two handed thrower
then later on precise shot, improved two weapon fighting,
Can he take many shot or rapid shot?
