How would you claw blitz?

Advice

I was looking at a game that's coming for PBP and I was thinking of doing a build that focuses on a catfolk blitzing enemies with claw attacks. I was thinking Beast Totem Barbarian would work, cause then I could actually get pounce eventually. Any suggestions how to make it work?

Behold

Scarab Sages

Nimble Guardian monk with feral combat training claws and pummeling style.

Sudden thought. Can you swashbuckle with claw weapons? :p

Scarab Sages

No, a claw is Bludgeoning and Slashing, Swashbuckler needs Piercing.

Hrm... :/

Would slashing grace work to qualify?

Scarab Sages

No, because claws are not one-handed weapons. You could get dex to damage with agile claw blades though.

Dang. Okay Well it seems that either through the feat or through barbarian totem I couldn't get pounce till lvl 10. I could at that point play a ranger or something I guess, get some other useful skills/abilities too.

Nope, natural attacks are light weapons, not one-handed.

However, if you take either Snake Style or Hamatulatsu Strike and Feral Combat Training, then you can swashbuckle with your claws.

Ah I see how that would work. Yeah it's a work around. Wouldn't be able to do it at level 1 though. :/

weapon focus claw -> feral combat training -> snake style -> piercing claw attacks...

edit: i should read whole posts, i was only ninja'd by 22 minutes.

That.

Also, since you can get Claws anyway as a racial trait, I just don't think the Beast Totem Rage powers are for you. You get the good stuff other ways.

Catfolk Master of Many Styles Monk/Scout Rogue/Vivisectionist Alchemist is one of the best sneak attackers in the game. It is definitely a "claw blitz" sort of character.

Pounce at level 10? How about earlier?
And how about free sneak attacks on a charge?
With d8 sneak attack dice?
Doubled?
With +3 for each die?
Maximized in a surprise round (somewhat debated)?
With 4 claws instead of 2? (somewhat debated, but allowed)?
It takes a lot of investment to pull off, and you won't be able to do every one of these things, but by level 10 you can be dealing a couple hundred damage each round.
Plus, it's cool. Which is just as important.

This is how I would claw blitz. This character is a Tengu, not Catfolk, mostly because Catfolk aren't PFS legal. The build would work pretty much the same for Catfolk.

Best Unarmed Build Ever

Another Catfolk I'd be interested in is Scent. I'd take Scent and the Blind Fighting Feat. Then I'd get an Eversmoking Bottle. Everyone in the Smoke is Blind, but you will be able to function almost normally while Blinded. The Eversmoling Bottle has a 20'Radius, though, chances are you will Blind friend and foe alike, so you might not want to do that unless the whole party is on board and each of them is willing to work out their own method of functioning while Blinded.

In a variant of the build I just linked to, I also use Sneak Attack. I favor Dirty Tricks to Blind my opponents, denying them their Dex bonuses and locking in the Sneak Attack Damage. For PFS, it's actually a halfling character, so instead of Claw Feats and Feral Combat Training, I go straight to Quick, Great dirty trick, taking Combat Expertise at Level 1.

If the build I linked to extended past level 12, I would totally be a Vivisectionist Alchemist for the Sneak Attack, and take Quick, Great dirty trick.

Sneak Attack is awesome.
