Eclipse Phase Recruitment

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 99 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm opening recruitment for 4 players of an Eclipse Phase game. PC creation by Core or Transhuman. I've only read those and gatecrashing, but I've got the others and intend to read Panopticon next. You are welcome to use any book you like.

This is a technosocialist game, we aren't capitalist, game PCs shouldn't be focused on getting paid. Agronauts/Anarchist/titan rep is good, hypercorp bad.

Priority will be given to an Octo Uplift as I've got one in my IRL game that I just began hosting, hope to include some things I've done for that kind of PC. Everyone should be down for animal uplift rights, no Jovian pricks.

Standard creation and morph choosing. I'm pretty flexible, as the book is in moving things around a bit, I prefer better flushed out PCs than trying to rig something up from the kits they provide. Sometimes there are some bad holes and you can feel free to suggest how to fill them or I will if catch them. So feel free to come up with anything you like, lots of morph and things to choose from.

Just a few things: I'm new to this game, so people with experience playing would be highly appreciated if they don't mind my learning curve. Welcome to pointers and help and interpreting rules/fluff.

There is a plethora of equipment and combinations, please list some description of things in your alias. Yes, please create an alias for this submission. I can't access google services here in China so please no google docs or anything. I also can't view youtube or some sites without a vpn, which shouldn't matter much, but keep that in mind if you want to share something here.

Lastly, its Chinese New Years here in China (Think Christmas for Americans combined with Thanksgiving...and 10x the people) I'm going to be running to families houses and taking a road trip (my wife is Chinese, I'm American), but I'll be online and able to keep up. It's only for about 10 days, but I'll be answering questions and giving people plenty of time to create and submit.

Plan to begin the game hopefully be March 1st. I know there's been some interest and a few PMs about it, I'll consider more PCs depending on the level of players I get. I don't some new people as my IRL session is all new and I'll be able to explain what you'll need. This is more role-play heavy, some combat, less about stats, as this game has so many ways to make things easy and almost always completable. Feel free to jack on all those bonuses and equipment, but I'll be matching tasks and things to provide some challenge and suspense.

Looking forward to the discussion, I'll get an overview an introduction soon. Everyone will be where they may, somewhere near a gate, and will get invitations and arrangements for an ego cast to meet an old acquaintance.

Hells yeah! I would be up for playing an uplift. Considering that the game will start with an ego cast, how do we handle stuff?

BTW Panopticon is a wonderful book for anyone interested in uplifts.

Liberty's Edge

definitely throwing my hat in. I'm thinking an AI in a synth...

Oh, sorry, no AI. Forgot to mention, just not sure I'm preparedfor tthat dynamic. Could be persuaded, but I'd like everyone to be human or uplift, would rather concentrate on thoseaareas.

Liberty's Edge

fair enough, probably human synth then... mmm... I'll have to rethink my character plan then :P

Again I have to wonder, how are we going to handle stuff? I am concerned that if we completely ignore it, then our chars will be somewhat overpowered.

Everything is by core or transhuman rules, what are you referring to specifically?

Since we are starting with an ego cast, how does that affect starting gear and morph?

Just for a meeting, you'll be sent back and you'll have any starting equipment that you normally have. Also, fab units can duplicate a lot.

Big fan of Eclipse Phase, have had a couple of part-games online but yet to find a local gaming group I like that I can talk into checking out the rules. Excited enough about this that I went ahead and joined the site for it!

Any objection if I use the Life Path in Transhuman for character creation? I enjoy the slightly random background it pulls together, and sewing together some of the odd has given me two of my favourite well-rounded characters that I've played. I know we aren't in character generation yet and it's a less technical game anyway (which is excellent as an extended combat is what killed one PbP game I was involved in, as things slowed down and people dropped out.

Oh, and hi :)

Alright since that is three, l say we start discussing character ideas. I am thinking of someone who specializes in designing morphs and upgrades. I also like the idea that he sees uplift rights and AI rights as competing causes.

I'm thinking of leaning towards a media/PR bunny, so social and sales and communications and living on the Fame-net (among others). Combat-light but with one or two tricks up the sleeve for the odd time it's required.

Liberty's Edge

I was leaning towards a hacker/techie type, energy weapons (because lasers are cool) and being relatively durable... because I can't avoid making anything I play anywhere be durable. It's just not a thing I can do.

Wizards in pathfinder? durable
playing Ashe in lol? Can't avoid building GA

don't know how...

Great stuff everyone, feel free to work it out now, I'l say all of y ou are in. Let's put together a good team. I'm still on vacation, will return home by 25th. We got 3 players, which is same as my IRL game, so it's enough to start.

Life path fine, just be flexible, you're gonna need to be workingtogether, and iI hope we can tie together some past interactions.

Sorry I'm not so active, but normally it's daily. My daughter is also sick and fussy, keeping us up most nights in the hotels.

I promised an introduction and I'll try to deliver tonight when I can use my brothers laptop, my phone keeps s$##ting itself and browser ate my last one.

(This is Teneroth's char's alias)

Much as I hate to admit it, I was born on Earth. I'm not saying that Earth is bad, it was once a great planet from which we arose, and for that it has earned a place in history. But we have moved past it, like a child grows out of a favorite blanket.

Like it or not the future of the Trans-human race, for that's what we've become, not human, but Trans-human, is not on Earth. I realized that before the Fall, got off the planet as soon as I could, taking any job off planet. I'll admit there was a bit of the lust for exploration, but that's what it means to be transhuman, to desire to explore, to thirst for knowledge, not to sit mired in the old ways.

After the Fall I found myself as a survivor in an asteroid mining colony. I wasn't the only one, though there weren't as many as there should have been. In the years where the dust was settling in the wake of the Titans I knew that Earth was a trap for us, to return would be to die. I don't know who put up those orbital defenses, but they were great people.

Once we started getting our feet under us again I moved to Mercury, to join other like minded people in advancing our technology so we wouldn't have to return to Earth, or any other planet, ever again. Maybe our future lies through those gates, but I'd like to think we could forge our own path, not follow one left behind by others.

Maybe that's just me.

Figured I'd do a little IC background intro... cause it's late and I'm bored :P

This in Nohwear. BTW there appears to be only one octopus avatar pic.

Awesome, catching a bite to eat, daughter getting IV, hopefully she'll feel better tomorrow, I'm in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Yangshuo China. Star Wars 3 shot here with Kaust formations. Keep up the good work.

Earth? Of course I'm not from that Fallen world, except insofar as we're all children of humanity originally. I was born on Luna in one of its biggest colonies, my parents the colony administrator and the head of helium-3 extraction. You might have heard of it perhaps; New Mumbai? Yes, that New Mumbai.

I suppose I was as much of a traditionalist then as anyone. My parents encouraged me to follow in their footsteps and as I went through my early education that was all I wanted to do. I learnt my basic history, maths and academics, administration. Both what needed to be done and how to motivate my team to do it. I was working as a junior administrator in the medical division when I first stepped outside my parents' path. Some of the teams under me complained I didn't truly understand their situation and 'the book' said I should discipline them. Instead I spent three months in an accelerated training course and put myself in the rotation. They had a couple of points, but the most important lesson I learnt was cultural. You think there's only a hundred-odd languages? Ghu no! I'd been speaking Administrator at them and what they understood was entirely other than what I meant. Once we were speaking the same language, I managed to implement all the changes I wanted in weeks.

You'll have to take my word for it about that. We improved our patient care by fifty percent just in time for a series of dangerous accidents to start erupting across the area. At the time it just seemed like computer error, but by the time we even heard of the TITANS it was too late. A freak gas leak in the regional medical center resulted in advanced candescent necrosis among 99.98% of the staff and patients present. The powers that be - including my parents - took me under arrest while they investigated what my role was in the incident. By the time they cleared me the colony's population had increased 8-fold as refugees poured in from all across the system, and the rest is a matter of public record. Suffice to say my last memories are of my father's screams as a thing lanced an arm through the wall at the back of our house and opened up his chest. Then everything went white.

Years later I finally escaped simulspace and acquired a used Sylph morph from a far far less lucky VR gamer. Really? Playing VR against an infomorph? Silly ditz. After some customization work courtesy of years of semi-indentured labor, I was broke but more than ready to live again, so I signed on with a team and went Gatecrashing! What? Don't look at me like that. Most of the discoveries we made are still sealed under corporate confidentiality and Ghu knows the XP records weren't mine to sell, but there was enough I hadn't signed away that I parleyed it into three seasons of primary newsfeed on Source and enough sponsorship to make it as an independent concern once more.

Now? Independent commentator, roaming the system and doing independent contracts for my friends, finding out what I can and getting people's messages out for everyone to hear. I still work with Source mostly, and though I've spoken with some of the media hypercorps a time or two it's safe to say they're not my biggest fans. Other than OrpheusTech, but I'm nowhere near rich or stupid enough to share that story! A week or so ago I hitched a ride on a scum swarm passing Harding's Hope and I'm already putting together a set of pieces to go up after the Olympics.

So tell me again why you called me?

(BlindKitsune here, following Ahran's lead ^^)

Still working on my char, but I have decided that I am from Europa. The aquatic moon of Jupiter is home to a very technoprogresive society.

Any thoughts on our past interactions?

Vivien hasn't been to Mercury, but could maybe have met Ahran after acquiring the Sylph morph. Europa is definitely closer to Viv's usual wandering ground.

That assumes we're looking at face-to-face meets. If we're thinking something more virtual then anything's possible.

Any ideas for what sort of interaction we've had? Casual acquaintances or something more permanent?

tbh, I've been thinking about it but without knowing where the start of the game is, ie, where we are ego casting from, it's kinda hard to come up with anything. i mean... anyone who has any interactions with the asteroid mining groups may have run into my character at some point. He is also something of a researcher in various fields, his current interests being xenobiology and xenoliguistics, so mr Helix may have read some papers from my character or something.

Most of my character's life, after leaving earth in any case, was spent in the asteroid belt which likely trades with both Jupiter and Mars. I use a synth morph that has been upgraded for EVA and Mining operations (industrial armor, zero G thrusters, etc). More recently he has been doing research on Mercury, trying to get into gate crashing (on slightly better terms than 'everything you find belongs to us') and possibly doing some consulting for mining/research centers.

So if that gives you any ideas feel free to share them... but I got nothing :P

edit: using the right alias is hard

further edit: If we know where the game starts it would be easier, I could come up with a reason for my char to have gone there, everyone else could do the same, we could meet up there... etc. Though if anyone has any ideas for past interactions that would be sweet too.

As you say it depends on what we're doing and where (anything, Snowman? I hope your daughter is feeling better) though Vivien has some past experience with gate crashing as well as some media attention as an ex-'crasher, so they could have met that way.

A thought that occurred to me is that, sex being as omnipresent as it is in Eclipse Phase, one or more of us might have some prior romantic ties that could carry forward into the game. As in, the relationships side rather than the squishy bits. No one needs to see that. :P

I don't see Vivien as having been to Mercury, but I've been deliberately nonspecific on where Viv picked up the Sylph morph cosmographically so there is room to be anywhere that's required for that part of the bio.

Hey guys. Sorry I haven't been able to pay as much attention here as I'd like. Just came back from vacation and tons of work to catch up on, maybe IRL game this evening, with a new person, so I've got my plate full. Thanks for asking about my daughter, she lost tons of weight b/c she wouldn't eat. She's fine and recovering now, no more cold, still a cough, but she's eating now and we're sleeping more.

Things looking good so far here in our EP universe. As for past interactions and where you all are now...

I'd like it if you all had some gate crashing experience...But not necessary, hopefully atleast one or two of you will be experienced. We'll need a good hacker and a "face" with the social elites. Sounds like we are putting it together, but to what end...

You'll all ego cast to a meeting and be provided with some morphs. The contact you'll be meeting is someone all of you have met at one point or another. You have done some work for him, smuggling, hacking, stealing, etc, but not in a "bad" way more a "Robinhood" of sorts.

Greedy bastards are keeping people from morphs and stifling progress. You all live outside the bounds of that, not captured and motivated by money and assets. None of you should be rich, well connected and established sure, but not rich and over-privileged.

Id like a team that's coming from the bottom, upset with the system, and ready to see it change. Think "Fight Club" if you will. It doesn't matter so much what kind of life you had before, this new cause should be your calling.

So do what you like, don't worry so much about the mechanics of small details, we can work those out. Just build up a nice profile and be ready to have some fun.

My weekends are Monday/Tuesday and I promise to have something more up by then for you all by then.

Chase, the contact you all should have had some experience working with, usually can be found in a Menton Morph.

Don't know if I forgot to mention, please don't use the Psy Powers, or Kinesics, or you know what I'm talking about. I've kept my players out of that so I could avoid having to learn and read about all that right now. It could be something for later, but I'll bring it in once I'm more familiar with the core parts. If that really changes things for you, then perhaps I'll consider you keeping it since you all seem to have more experience with this game than I or my IRL gropu have.

I have some gatecrashing experience, and a good record as a face with the socialites and media corps. Well, mostly!

Also have a burning grudge against the Peetaybee (powers that be), so A-ok with anything that shakes the foundations and maybe sees some change coming about.

Not a hacker, but I daresay the others might have that covered - and Ahran is likely to be our main combatant!

me? the main combatant? I've an arm mounted pop out laser gun and decent skill with it... and that's it. Unless you want to pay for a reaper with a puppet sock and twin plasma guns I don't think I'll be tanking...Although... heavy synth armor on a reaper leads to 32 armor base, something even railguns find a hard time getting through. slap a couple plasma rifles on there and you are looking at potentially 4d10+12 damage with 8 armor pen. That's not even getting into putting a helmate on, or spray armor, reactive coating...

That being said, I do have some infosec and quite a few knowledge skills. And there are so many fun and inventive ways to kill or be killed in EP, you don't really need a 'main combatant.'

As for my character, he/she (synth morphs have no gender!) left the asteroid mining company, which very well may have been owned by a hypercorp, is upset with how many people fail to see that earth is a lost cause, and has been actively trying to get into gate crashing, probably through the Vulcanoid gate.

ooc I have experience with the setting and ruleset, EP being my favorite game setting ever, and could act the 'veteran' of gate crashing if needed. wouldn't even take a major rewrite of my character just 'hey, I managed to go on a number of first-in missions through the vulcanoid gate, and I even managed to return most of the times!'

edit: I'll remember alias's eventually

Definitely interested in playing this (it's what brought me to the site). Feel free to take what time you need in getting things ready, but if I don't respond immediately when you're ready to move on please toss me a message to get my attention.

Thanks,

Viv

No worries Viv.

Sorry its taken a little longer than I expected to get things up, but swamped with work since coming back from from a nearly 2 week holiday. I really love what you all have done and appreciate the effort, I assure it won't be wasted.

Something I was going to explain is how I did my IRL game. I sort of got PCs flushed out and then individually met with my players and then together to piece together interactions. Hopefully there's been some interaction and even friendship, theres plenty in the universe to be worried and concerned about, I don't want you all to be overly concerned with each other. Obviously there will be conflict and team work etc, but I would like the game to focus more on the story and universe, less on a pissing contest to see has the bigger morph. Get what I mean? If that is what some of you are looking for, tell me, and I'll try to consider that and let you be, but I believe I should have something interesting and unique enough, even for veterans, that it should interest you and capture your attention.

Anways, Happy Lantern Festival. The "last" day of Chinese new years, got one last family dinner planned with inlaws, and then it'll be back to life as usual. Thanks for your patience.

Ahren and Helix, nice profile setups.

Viv, try to get something like they have for me. Thanks.

Also, please list your morph and its stats seperately for me, as well as any unique information I should need to know.

Eventually we'll move onto faults and assets stage. If you would like to PM that to me or just leave it in a spoiler on your profile up to you. Some people are more secret about things than others, I'm fine with whatever and however you decide to share and present yourself.

I can do that, will look at it tomorrow.

I have a character sheet someplace around here, and I can draw things from that and my character generation PM to you from earlier and put together something pretty.

Shame I can't change the colours of my text, but c'est la vie!

Profile is done and done!

I hate to break it to you Ahran, but unless Triple Helix turns out to be an octoblade-wielding death machine I suspect you will end up being our most dangerous (toughest anyway) combatant.

Viv can put someone down if she really has to, but she's awfully breakable. Compared to 20/21 armour, 90 skill at ranged and 3 Moxie points, anyway!

Playing with some dice-code in the meantime, ignore away.

1d10 ⇒ 81d10 ⇒ 31d10 ⇒ 21d10 ⇒ 8

hey, don't mock octoblade wielding uplifts, I built one once for fun... 4d10ish damage from a quad wielding cuttlefish is scary.

Speaking of which, try not to get hurt too badly.

I have this feeling that you're the only one of us with the knowhow to put your morph back together...

worse case scenario you can rip out my cortical stack and shove me in a ghost rider module or something. can't use my combat skills there but I can still give advice n stuff

Don't think I have a ghost rider module.

I do have a pocket though, and I'm sure I could lay my hands on a potato. Do you suppose if I attached a little portable speaker somehow...?

Dark Archive

If you are still open to applications, I would love to throw my hat into the ring. I read the book a while ago and loved the setting, but unfortunately could never convince my IRL group to go for it.

Assuming I can count properly, which considering I'm apparently going to be hooked up to a space potato is an iffy thing, we only have 3 signed up players right now. I tend to prefer 4 or 5 players in games I run, and I think mr snowman mentioned wanting 4 players.

Sounds good to me too!

Snowman is still catching up from his time away and isn't quite ready to start this as far as I know, so why not pull together a character and join in?

Thanks! Hopefully it is all good with Snowman when he gets back.

In the meantime, here is my tentative character. I will be able to finish it soon. As I don't think this role has been filled, I'm looking at an engineering/programming/tinkering type with an unfortunate propensity towards misfortune...

-Sersi

Your closest competition is Ahran I think, but so long as your concepts don't tread too closely on one another's toes I think you should be fine.

Sounds fun!

Dark Archive

Hi everyone!

Have room for another? (And do you not mind people new to the system?)

I'm literally just now reading the rules, and it looks like everything that I would expect from the company that brought us SR4th ed!

Anyway, I'll plow through this and hopefully have something up to make BayouSnowman proud. (Hmmm, does that man you speak Chinese? Did that make watching Firefly a totally different experience? Whoa. =)

Huh, the Planetary Consortium looks interesting. Run by Hypercorps? That could be wiz...chummers. ;)

Hello again Atlas - that makes three of my threads I've seen you in recently!

It could be interesting, but don't forget we aren't supposed to be greedy corporate bastards, dohn mah?

I wonder if Viv knowing Mandarin means we'll be having a few more cultural references from the Snowman...

Done with everything except finishing up some skill allotment and buying gear.

Ended up going a bit more towards the spacebound direction. So engineering, piloting, and such. Plus the inquisitive, intellectual side. Something of a Hank McCoy/Beast from X-Men meets Kaylee from Firefly. But most important of all are her prehensile feet and tail :)
Still unlucky and not too refined, but the character has good intentions.

No clue on what direction to go when it comes to combat, so I would certainly appreciate some suggestions to be as helpful as possible to the group (although she isn't shaping up to be much of a fighter compared to most).

Edit: hmm... Maybe I should add Mandarin if everyone else is using it...

From what Bayou said earlier I think we're not going to be going into too many extended combat montages, or at least not ones that require us to have missile-pod toting Reaper morphs.

I'd suggest more on keeping her alive and mobile rather than needing to be overly deadly. That's the route I'm going with Vivien anyway, she's mostly intended to hide behind things when the fighting starts, though she has a pistol to keep people from getting too close to her.

As for the cyberclaws...

Wait, cyberclaws? What cyberclaws?

Cyberclaws are pretty cool

As for combat, it's useful to have at least one weapon and some skill with it. The cool thing about EP is that there are so many fun ways to kill people without resorting to gun play. In one game I played in we had to take over a hostile space ship, half the party was gearing up for a boarding action, getting battle armor, rail rifle machineguns with smart link and everything.

Upon reaching the ship's hull I cut open the window and blew the crew into space... it was kinda amusing.

Exactly. I really don't want to take Viv into combat, but if I absolutely have to the pistol is mostly for show.

Cyber claws + eelware + toxin sac should do the trick and put someone down long enough to be finished at her leisure - or let her jio weh sung chiuh.

Last game I took things a bit more to extremes when it came to combat and attached some sticky mining explosives to the heavily exo-skeletoned exsurgent who came bursting into the room. Then detonated it with eelware.

Good times :3

I went with the beam hand augmentation. So basically it is like having a concealed light pistol built right in :)

Lends 'laser pointer' a whole new meaning!

Welcome to the new guys, sorry I've been catching up IRL and here on the forums, behind in my games, but caught up. Glad to have a few more, my IRL EP game had our last guy finally joined, but he had changed from an informorph into a "lost." Had to rewrite some things.

I'm up for you guys joining in, though i'll cap it now and end recruitment. You guys are in, lets get some profile up if you don't already. Workout what you guys think you need. we can start figuring out our history and crossing over. As I mentioned before, dont' know if you all want to deal with that openly here or through PM, up to you.

You'll all have a central contact that you've worked with, maybe all together or some of you at times, or maybe not at all, up to you really and how your PC develops.

Can you give us a little more (out of character) information on this Robin Hood we're meeting?

That would help me work out where I might have met him/her/it before, and probably the others too.

Finished with my character I believe (just to double check, we are the default of 1000 CP to build characters?).

As far as how our characters know each other, I am open to any suggestions. The bare bones backstory that I have so far is that Seren (called "Jinx" by everyone who knows her, much to her chagrin) was born in space on a colony ship. She wanted more excitement in life than just being a cargo pilot hauling goods between various colonies.

Her skills behind the helm, got her noticed by the right (or maybe wrong depending on your point of view) people, and she started building a nice reputation for herself as a smuggler. Nothing too big, but enough to pay the bills and keep the adrenalin going.

While things tend to work out eventually, she has a nasty streak of things going wrong at the worst possible time and always being at the wrong place at the wrong time (as modeled with the Bad Luck trait).

EDIT: I could also alter a few things and make her an uplift, if that would fit the story better after looking over the first post again.

Dark Archive

Sweet!

Okay, just finished "stuff" and "Character creation". And, let me just say, whoa. Lotsa new stuff, but I've had a concept that I never got to use in Shadowrun, and it's looking like it'll fit nicely into EP.
Kind of a fallen hyperelite thing.
I'll try and get 'er hammered out tomorrow.
