Hosmer Manor

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 118 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

This place was once a decadent and lavish place to the Hosmer family, but something happened in times long past, the family had disappeared, and all of their holdings were abandoned. Those who have traveled through this area know that there are hundreds of tales that described what happened to Lord Janice Hosmer, and Dame Sybil. These tales range from a traveler killing them in their sleep, all of the way to cultist sacrifice.

No one knows what actually happened, but these tales are so wide and so varied that no person is sure which is actually happened. The decrepit mansion still stands to this day, though it has not weathered well.

This is where your story begins.

A terrible storm has blown in and the unlucky travelers, You poor unfortunate adventurers, have been forced to take shelter from the gale force winds while you were travelling towards a nearby village. There is a reason why the manor remains empty. It is cursed according to the lore that hangs around the land.

Now, you all must survive your stay in this forsaken place, but all who enter, be warned, the storms here can last for many days, and the gods of this place are cruel.

This is a short Horror adventure where a group of four or five adventurers must explore the manor of the late Lord Hosmer, and unravel its secrets. This is a level one adventure for humans. Core Rulebook classes only. 20 point buy stats.

Short, huh? What is starting gold for this? And is this a homebrew game? Or a module of some sort?

Base starting gold +20 Gp

Homebrew game, Roleplay heavy, I want characters to be frightened, scared, panicked...

(I know it is hard to scare the players, but if I have to deal with five people with unwilling to express any emotion but confidence I will be very unhappy)

lol!

Roleplay heavy and scary... sounds interesting. :)

Traits or no?

2 traits, 1 drawback(no additional trait for drawback)

If you have any friends you think would be interested, please invite them.

This sounds fantastic... Any problems with divine characters, particularly paladins? The idea of a frightened paladin appeals... (I might actually have found a reason to play one.)

Also any expectations on posting rate?

Anything core class is allowed. Clerics and Paladins are fine, but remember that Lawful Good is not Lawful Stupid, and I am lenient with the rules on the paladin's code. I will not slap you on the wrist until you blatantly do something absolutely evil.

If it ever gets to the point that you are immune to fear, I will rule that you are able to keep calm even when you are afraid, not that you cannot feel fear.

I also thought I would put down a few ground rules here.

Do not play an evil character unless you want to be slaughtered. Blanket rule, I do not care why you fell to evil or how you want to play evil, I will kill you off first.

Please do not min/max or munchkin please.

Play your character, if you take a drawback Forgetful, and then your PC has a photographic memory... I'll call you on it, One Warning.

Also, sadly this is a horror game. I will not be pulling punches, I will be fair, but absolute. If you die, and I think the campaign is not near the end yet, I may allow a new character.

Posting rate I expect will be sporadic, with some days having many posts and other days, none. I hope to keep this going if people remain interested.

I'm gonna throw this guy in there:

The Blue Rajah

He's not finished so you'll find several mechanical issues. But that's the gist of him. Will get him cleaned up over the next day or so. 'Cause I got to call it quits for tonight.

Understood, good start, I think the background is a touch cliche, but cliches are tools, just like any other. I don't mind it.

Last question before I hit the hay; as this is a homebrew are we still using Golarian gods or is there another pantheon/way you'd like to run deities?

Golarian gods are fine, I don't want to make this too complex... introducing a new mythos is not what I want to do...

However, since we have a potential cleric of Sarenrae, I would ask that another cleric or paladin Not have the same god as their main deity.

While I don't mind if two people worship the same god, I would prefer people praising Sarenrae in times where you are asking for her defense from the undead... but also praising Cayden Cailean for simple pleasure or luck... and Iomedae in times where you need strength in battle

I would like to see rounded clerics and paladins... the whole of the pantheon... Not continuous praise to a single god.

Short is good.
Human fighter. Plain and simple. =^^=

That is three of the four/five

Any questions or concerns?

Silver Crusade

interesting. when you say short, does that mean we won't be progressing level wise? Or does it mean around 1-4?

I think a good ole halfling rogue could do the trick here.. or something of that flavor

I don't know yet how far this is going to go. It depends on player reactions, and other factors.

Also Rorek55 I must direct you to the top of the page, bottom paragraph, read it carefully before progressing

Any chance you have room for a Wizard (Evoker)?

I've pretty much have a built character. The two questions I have are:
1. I've got plenty of v3.5 experience, but I've not played a Pathfinder's game. Am I welcomed, or does everyone need to be a veteran for this game?
2. Is burning hands acceptable as a spell? Or is it going to be too area specific.

Okay. Not at pc. But here are a few basic stats:

Silver Crusade

aw, I had missed the blue bit. (seriously, am I the only one that finds it hard to notice/read?)

puts a full stopper on my idea but....hmm. nothing it popping out at me....

eureka! A fresh out of the library wizard! or sorcerer... either way, I'll whip it up in a jiffy.

EDIT: if he wishes to play a wizard, I can do a monk or a rogue (seeing as how we have a paladin and fighter already applying

I accept any player regardless of experience level. You may use any spell you deem necessary, I won't restrict unless you are pulling from 3rd Party Publishers, and then I will only if I think the spell is broken.

We have (potentially) a Wizard, a Cleric, a Paladin, a Rogue, and a Fighter...

Though we have these characters potentially, I will leave the recruitment open for at least a full day from this post, and then I will take the characters on basis of enthusiasm, party balance and player attitude.

EDIT/CONSOLIDATION

@Seth- Good Start, I can't wait for personality and background bits. This is RP heavy...Edit also. I am seeing quite a bit of min/maxing and a cold iron weapon...

@Rorek- glad to see a character who is willing to work around other players ideas and desires.

Silver Crusade

when you say core book classes only, is that also prohibiting archetypes?

rorek55 wrote:

Yes, I am sorry about that. I'm more looking for /characters/ defining the classes they occupy, rather than the class defining the character...

IF, we have a party of good and strong characters and people think they want to add an archetype to help define the character I may allow it. I think that I will decide at the Level 2 mark. This will apply retroactively to skills and abilities

Okay, so no Cold Iron?

I see him as a brash person, not smarts, but he thinks on his feat aka wisdom.

I am seeing a very fine line between having a thought on how a character is in your mind... and coming into a horror campaign with a cold iron weapon, and strong saves in most categories.

I won't make you change anything, I am just noticing a trend... If you roleplay him as anything but quite moronic, brash, and headstrong, we may have a problem.

EDIT
Things like charging in, ignoring common sense, and trying to make sure everything is done your way would be points in your favor while playing such a character

Silver Crusade

righteo -no need to be sorry

now one more question... how do you feel about the 2handed weapon rogue ;)

I was thinking something like this

to be honest Haven't given much thought to him mechanically yet

I offer a rogue because we have no trap finding yet from the group

concept- Cocky bastard, quick on his feet and wits. extremely superstitious usually tries to play off his uneasiness or fear with humor or acting tough. He left his gang behind him in the last city after coming to blows with the gang's "leader" (a band of orphans coming together to survive)

Without playing like my PFS character exactly, it is okay ;)

Look at Wreck in my profile. very similar. He is in the party for his brawn and sturdyness. He's there to protect and take on the big things. As you mentioned, we are adventurers, who got stuck here.

I took out the Cold iron weapon. for better armor

I think the concept is sound, though mechanically flawed. I like it.

Trap-finding in a horror scenario... oh my, why would you need that?

okay

Seth86 wrote:

I looked at the character you directed me to.

To put it simply, the character is one dimensional. Two dimensional at best. Other than dice rolls you had maybe 2 paragraphs of text in the two pages of posts that I looked at.

I am sorry, but the character you wish to submit will not work in this setting and context. Please find a new role or character, and submit a three dimensional concept if you do wish to play in this campaign.

oh well. withdrawing. wanted to give some kind of tank/fighter. enjoy game then
=^^=

Silver Crusade

ok so a rough outline of the rogue dude- pre stat bonus note this will probably change drastically before the end :P
Traits: Indomitable Faith(in himself) Life of Toil
Drawback: Vain
Str: 14
Dex: 14
Con: 13
Int: 14
Wis: 12
Cha: 10

from here though I am still at a stand still. so I will ask you the GM.

Do you want a rogue to be sneak attacking with a bastard/greatsword? Does it break things for you? If so I won't.

Even if it doesn't, and you accept that he could aim for large (weak points) would you prefer me play a more "normal" rogue type?

oh, did the martial spot just open up? my original idea was for that spot to be honest.

At the top of the first page you may note where I spoke about traits, take a second look please.

I think that the rogue with a bastard sword is entertaining, and the character is sound, even if he doesn't hold with general thoughts of what a rogue should be.

Martial spot is apparently open, but I like your idea at the moment.

Silver Crusade

-fixed

so the build would look like this- (still subject to some change)

Traits: Indomitable Faith(in himself), Life of Toil
Drawback: Vain
Str: 16
Dex: 14
Con: 14
Int: 14
Wis: 12
Cha: 08

Feats:
1-Exotic weapon prof.Bastard sword (I may swap this to greatsword), Iron will, (or power attack... still unsure)

Arms and Armor: Bastard sword, Chain shirt

Gear: backpack, belt pouch, rope (100ft), Grappling hook, sunrod(3), signet ring, waterskin(3), flint and steel, Caltrops(3), cloak, rations (20)

One word for the group.

Take this word to heart.

Food

Dúrach Clistefear is ready I believe, but any suggestions on how not to do any of the following would be great.
-Die.
-Die horrifically.
-Die suddenly.
-Die nobly.
-Die stupidly.
-Die from lack of food.
-Die from being food.

I like the backstory, I like the way that he seems to be quite rounded and his personality is consistent.

Suggestions on how not to die... I will give you two.

1.Don't take part in this campaign. -I actually want you to be in this campaign, but hopefully dying will be a serious threat, so its quite possible that some will die... :D

2.If you decided to ignore suggestion one, Remember that falling back is always an option...Intelligent cowards live longer than brave fools

Thanks, glad to hear you like it!

Wisdom Check: -1 Wis, -10 because I really want to join:
Wisdom: 1d20 - 11 ⇒ (11) - 11 = 0
And that failed... Come on everyone, into the creepy old mansion with the bloodstain on the door.

One serious question though: I notice everyone who's presented a character has presented at 2nd level. Should I boost mine?

no.

EVERYONE! This campaign /starts/ at level one, drop your characters back down, please

We have three people so far, a cleric, a wizard, and a rogue. There is a paladin potentially.

There is one position if there are still interested parties.

How about a bard, who comes to that place willingly, looking for a good story? (Will be super excited, note down everything spooky that happens, and will want to continue to investigate, until it is too late to turn around)

The poor, poor insane fool. I imagine he will begin to lose enthusiasm quickly...

The concept is thoroughly unsound. It fits though.

Pathfinder Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Still interested. I have a crunch done, mostly, and a pretty solid idea for her character. Now I just need to get a background and description down in writing. Probably will be finished tomorrow. Sorry about the delay.

That is wonderful to hear, and I cannot wait to see it. I await the character

The delay was not that bad. I don't have enough players to do anything yet.

-Death_Keeper

So far we have.

Javell DeLeon- Cleric, incomplete as of yet.
JohntheVast- Wizard, Complete as far as I can tell.
Rorek55- Rogue, incomplete as of yet.
Sedoriku- Paladin(?), incomplete as of yet.
The Friendly Lich-Bard, incomplete as of yet

I have a few people I have PM'd, Who have yet to respond.

If the characters are all completed tomorrow we could start. If there are more people that drop in and have fully completed characters before we begin I will choose the best team for party balance and character development.

Then we will begin.

I know you said this is homebrew, but if this house was situated in Golarion or on Earth, which area would it be standing in? Just trying to get a feel of the setting.

@The Friendly Lich- Golarion, for simplicity sake

Oh, I had some things I wanted to add to the rules, I will try to keep them simple and explain my reasoning for each one.

Additional Rules
Do not use the [dice=] equation. use [ooc][dice] instead. If you use [dice=] when quoted, the expression is broken.

Hide dice inside spoilers please,

Please do not use [ooc] and/or PMs, You should stay IC as much as possible. Write in first person if you are can, please. This will help add to the feeling of the game and help you connect with your character. Out of character is distracting. Private Messages between players allows for meta-game feelings, private conversations in character should be hidden in spoilers.

Respect spoilers, please. Not knowing is half the fun in horror.

Edit
If you think any of these rules are wrong or weird, or you disagree with them, please tell me

Silver Crusade

no real disagreements but, just curious as to why the ooc/dice thing

It breaks the game, a die roll with whatever: 100d6 - 1d1d20 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 3, 2, 6, 2, 4, 5, 3, 6, 4, 1, 6, 1, 1, 2, 5, 5, 6, 2, 4, 5, 6, 2, 5, 5, 6, 6, 2, 6, 6, 6, 3, 1, 5, 3, 2, 3, 1, 5, 6, 3, 1, 4, 6, 5, 6, 3, 5, 3, 1, 3, 6, 6, 4, 5, 2, 2, 5, 6, 3, 1, 3, 3, 2, 6, 3, 4, 3, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 3, 6, 1, 2, 3, 1, 1, 2, 6, 5, 1, 1, 3, 5, 5, 3, 4, 6, 3) - (11) = 346 written {ooc]whatever[/ooc}{dice]1d20[/dice}
