So, in a PFS game, I am thinking about making a Tengu who is obsessed over perfecting the art of the two-bladed sword. A sword trainer through-and-through, he whole-heartedly believes that the two-bladed sword is the most perfect weapon in Golarion, and he thinks he can untap it's true potential by designing a new fighting style with it.

The character build is a slayer that will have two-weapon feint.

Every time he successfully feints and sneak-attacks a foe, I am going to have him provide a quote about what his opponent did wrong. I have a list from 20-2, with quotes such as "left your heart unguarded" and "feet are too far apart." When I successfully sneak attack after a feint, I'm gonna use my to-hit roll to determine which quote I use. My Venture Captain suggest I throw some extra quotes in referencing famous Golarion swordsmen, such as "fell for the Sirian maneuver."

Thing is: my Google-fu fails me. The only famous swordsman I can find is Sirian Aldori, and it is unlikely that my Tengu would know any of his moves, as he isn't a member of the swordpact.

He suggested that I look up brevoy, minov, lebstacht, and The red Mantis, but I haven't found much on the way of famous members of those societies. Can anyone help me come up with some quotes to use, and (if possible) describe the Golarion lore (or link to a Pathfinder wikia)? that are the impetus behind the quotes?

Hello? anyone out there?

Grand Lodge

Have you considered quoting sword fighters from earth's history?

Shadow Lodge

Or from other literature and pop culture, like Inego Montoya
"You try the Montoyan Manuver against someone with a two handed weapon? Just stab yourself and get it over with"

for the record Inego was a skilled an very acrobatic fencer who used the terrain to his advantage, but his style was most effective against other lightly armored, 1h or lighter weapons, his defence lightly wouldn't be too effective against someone with a big honking double weapon he was in the Princess Bride

Here are some canon fighting styles. The list is rather short, unfortunately.

I second looking up some real-world sources, perhaps beginning with good ol' Wikipedia.

Inner Sea Combat has a big list of high level martial characters on pages 6-7.

Here's my list so far. It includes the full Montoya, plus some 'generic' responses and several styles of fighting I've found from Advanced Class Origins.

20) Left your Neck open (Crit threat)
19) Left your heart unguarded (Crit Threat)
18) Should have used Benetti's Defense
17) Feet too far apart
16) Left flank unguarded
15) Poor use of Tibolt
14) Right flank unguarded
13) Fell for the Six-Step gambit
12) Should have counterd with Cappo Ferra
11) Keep your hands up
10) Watch your footwork
9) Need to work on agrippa
8) Fell for the Thrune Counter
7) Should use the Bloodwatch parry
6) Failed to block Blood Mistress Strike
5) Improper Hellknight Block
4) Fell for the Greenskin Stalker Feint
3) Lost to the Bekyar Agression
2) Fell for Baron First's Offensive

How appropriate; you fight like a cow.

I might recommend some actual period fencing manuals. Rather than announcing the particular feint or counter, they'd make more fundamental comments about balance, tempo, reach, and so forth. Pay attention to the sections on pole-arms, since that's basically where a double-sword fits in.

"Don't let me drive you off-line. See? I feinted high and to the left, and you turned your wrist over, indicating that you were going to block high, which left your front leg unguarded. Here; try again."

If the opponent does get a strike in at your PC, how will he react? Will he say different things to someone better (higher BAB) than he, than he would against common mercenaries or militia?

Incidentally, VBD, we need to get your slayer together with Devlin, my fighter / magus, as he is also attempting to study various martial arts forms with a goal towards martial perfections.

You could also go the Robert Jordan route: "Ah, you tried the Tiger leaps the branch attack. Unfortunately for you, it is useless against the Crane Takes Wing form, and now you've left yourself open to River Undercuts the Bank."

After crit, perhaps you would have seen that one coming if I hadn't cut your eye out the first time.

You'll pay to have all this blood cleaned off my sword, you obviosly have enough since you've spent nothing on your training.

If you wanted to sunder my sword you should have been born with adamantine bones. Make a plea to your god before you come back so you'll have a chance next time.

You probably should have opened with the blood armor defense.

Thanks for all the help. I have a few more lore-related questions for my character.

I was thinking of making him Lawful Neutral, just completely devoted to the sword, but that's kind of boring, and so I've come up with another idea.

So, it says in the advanced race guide that any Tengu that live in the non-tengu cities are basically treated as second-class citizens, and live in warrens and slums. I kind decided to run with this. What if the character lived in Brevoy, in a slum with his bretheren, and saw how well the Brevoy swordlords were treated?

He knows that all of his people train from a very young age with swords, but are disregarded, as most of them are to (pardon the pun) flighty to devote themselves to truly mastering a style. He thinks that if he were to perfect a sword art, he could be elevated to the level of the swordsmen who are treated so well, and has thus devoted his life to perfecting a new sword-art that he can train his fellow tengu in.

He has since signed on with the Sovern Court, betting that if they get a resurgence, that he'll be elevated to a higher position (for helping them from the start) and then he can elevate his people out of the slums.

Silver Crusade

This may not be of too much help, but one of my favorite lines from that Duel between Inigo and The Dread Pirate Roberts was

"There is something you don't know......I am not left handed!"

which might be kind of amusing coming from someone who is using both hands to wield a weapon :D

"You listen to the music in your soul to create tempo changes? The problem is that you let me hear it too!"

"Fast hands and slow feet make for a dreadful dance."

Great character concept!

Only things I can add are:
Be prepared with quotes against non-humanoids. You'll feel silly commenting on the will o wisps footwork, for example.

There's a line from the really old Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles movie when one of the nameless thugs (I think) approaches with a baseball bat....
"A Jose Canseco bat!?? Tell me you didn't pay money for that!"
This sort of thing would encourage me to a) have a discerning eye for equipment and b) include such commentary on equipment in my running commentary.
