stalwart defender unexpected strike

Rules Questions

Unexpected Strike (Ex): The stalwart defender can make an attack of opportunity against a foe that moves into any square threatened by the stalwart defender, regardless of whether or not that movement would normally provoke an attack of opportunity. This power can only be used once per stance. A stalwart defender must be at least 4th level before selecting this power.

Does this ability give you AoO on 5 ft step or am i reading this poorly. Also there is a discussion on the facebook pathfinder rpg group asking the same thing.

If it moves into a threatened square, yes. You get to AoO even on 5ft steps.

Okay, we have a clarification issue here. Our Barbarian has Unexpected Strike. A rogue enemy used Acrobatics to tumble around him. You can use Acrobatics to avoid Attack of Opportunity. Unexpected Strike says you get the AoO when they enter the square regardless of whether it would normally provoke.

Our Barbarian is arguing that Unexpected Strike trumps Acrobatics (I'm inclined to agree. I feel something you have to work towards getting and that has so many restrictions should trump a standard skill.).

The DM argues that Acrobatics avoids AoOs and would avoid the AoO gained from Unexpected Strike.

Thoughts? Opinions?

You're right, and your GM is wrong. Acrobatics can negate exactly one type of attack of opportunity: the one a creature provokes by moving out of a threatened square. It can't negate attacks of opportunity from spellcasting or making ranged attacks or standing up from prone or Unexpected Strike or anything else except that one specific use.
