Also, Shaman's life link is clearly a misprint that needs errata, can it be played as the Oracle life link?

GM BrOp, a quick question:

You have a rogue and a wizard, are either of them built to be knowledge monkies or extreme skill monkies or is the rogue more built to be a pure rogue type and the wizard very focused?

The answer to that question is somewhat subjective, as it depends on what you mean by the various terms you have used. I would suggest going to the CHARACTERS tab of the campaign and having a look-see yourself.

Just to Clarify, Ramses Forgunder is meant to be a knowledge monkey with a focus on keeping himself and any allies very alive if he can help it. At level 3 He'll likely take War Blessing as a feat to improve his heals, and make it a point to keep the magic buffs off of his enemies with Dispel Magic when he gets that. He's going to be played as a buff cleric, with protection and resist energies and endure elements and all that, if it becomes necessary.

And his name is Ramses Forgunder.

Gotcha.

Shadow Lodge

I have, I also noted that the GM Baby has a lot of knowledges, so while I don't believe they are necessary, I don't think there is a true jack of all trades, bardie type.

Are you good with the Familiar Folio? With it being so recent, I'm never sure.

Dropping in with my Alias profile. Will be linking everything I posted in my submission to this rather shortly.

What are you thinking about?

Gm BrOp do you have any issue with a Dual-cursed Oracle? I'm heavily considering making Ramses entirely based on Con and Cha, and relying on his saves to protect him during fights through the use of Sanctuary and other deterant buffs. He'd also be a healer and knowledge junkie who focused on buffing his group and deterring attackers.

Pretty much the main thing that would be an issue to him is high will save enemies, but those are mages, and they get dispelled.

He also doubles as a face with his diplomacy score.

This is the revision.

Gotta point out something. His knowledge specialty really kicks in at level 3, but for now his Oracle Revelation allows him to meditate for a moment and then make a knowledge check at +20, and he gets another revelation at level 3 as well which will allow him to get his charisma to his knowledge checks.

Stats and abilities to me are second in importance to the ability to create a thought-out and well-imagined character. How would a deaf character in a world that does cater to the deaf deal with his condition? Why does he think he is an oracle? When did his "curses" manifest, and was it tied to a particular event? What it his relationship to the divine?

I'm not saying you have to figure all of this out ahead of time, but dealing with some of this issues in your background will go a long way toward being picked for the game.

Shadow Lodge

With that said, GM, I'm going to post my character's background, as I am having some difficulty deciding on the crunch. I am debating between a Bard 1/Spirit Guide Oracle 1 or Spirit Guide Oracle 2. I'm also having a hard time deciding between Lore and Life. Either way, she will be a healer.

Background:

Valeria was born to one of the oldest and most prestigious families of Magnimar. As a scion of the Vanderale's she was expected to be everything her family needed from a mercantile standpoint. Until, at a very young age, she disappeared in the night. That was almost ninety years ago. She was the first grandchild of Nyssalee Vanderale and with her disappearance, the family was a bit dismayed. They pretended she had died when she did not return and mourned her as such.

Unfortunately for Valeria, she had been abducted by a swan maiden, Nyria, who believed that Valeria was her own descendant who had been stolen from her ages before.

As such, Valeria had a lovely childhood in The First World, but had no idea that her life was passing her by. In a conflict with other fey, Nyria was slain, not before being able to send Valeria, a young girl now in her midteens, back into the Prime Material Plane. The Lost Scion had returned to Magnimar.

However, no one in the Vanderale family could accept her for who she was. Her younger siblings, who were mere babes when she vanished, recognized her as looking like their mother. Save, she had stark white hair, instead, which was the marker that Nyria had seen and thought her to be one of her own.

The girl was checked out magically and they could find nothing to be untrue with what she was saying (though her body had several affects on it from living among the fey for so long), but according to all records...she was dead. While she was a member of the family, she had no place and they could not recognize her publicly without shaming their past for lying. So they call her a younger cousin and have little to do with her, though if she desperately needed help, they would come to her aid.

Her time in the fey world had exposed her to a vast wealth of knowledge and she used that to make a living as a storyteller... until the spirits began to invade her. She would find it hard to find the book she was looking for, keys were always an issue when she was going to her apartments, and it seemed as if some fey were constantly playing tricks on her...and then the magic invaded her. Without warning, she felt power coursing through her body like she had never felt before and immediately, she knew she had a larger purpose.

Now, she continues to perfrom in Magnimar and looks for ways she can help people, while dealing with her haunting and her fey...issues on her own. In her free time (which is most of the time, let's be honest) she watches for things out of place and lately has noticed some oddities about.

Points of interest: I was looking at Duettist Bard with a Figment Familiar, to go with the idea of her being touched slightly. So she is often talking to her bird, who she thinks is the embodiment of Nyria. That said, Fey Foundling is definitely a feat I plan on taking, with Fey-Taken and Alabaster Outcast as my required disadvantage and trait.

Depending on the availability on the Deuttist Bard with Figment will likely decide if I have the 1 level of bard or just 1 point in Perform (Storyteller).

Thanks for the consideration!

Ramses Forgunder Story Revised:
Ramses was born beneath a family of deadbeat sorcerers in the southern regions of Ustalav. While his parents were never keen on using their magical aptitude profusely to harness it, Ramses was waiting patiently in hopes that one day the magical spark within his blood would come to fruition. That day, unfortunately, never came.
After years of growing up and patiently waiting, Ramses instead was welcomed by misfortune as his eyes and ears failed him. At the age of 12, he lost his hearing, and by 14 his eyes had begun to go as well. Twice damned in his luck, he still continued to pray consistently to Tethys, the patron saint of magic, for his own blood to spark with arcane power. Alas, it was naught.

In his years waiting, however, he took to the study of magic, and became much more stern, and stalwart. He took to books, preparing for what he'd thought was inevitable, and quickly learned how to use wands that he'd been loaned temporarily, and used them with little trouble. He gained knowledge every day, and slowly but surely gained what could only be described as a photographic memory, albeit with a few hick-ups. He could recall from any book that he'd read if given enough time.

By the age of 24, Ramses had long-given up on his magic, moved away from Ustalav, and effectively shunned his parents in a bout of jealousy which also shamed him greatly. His lack of magical prowess could have been seen as too hungry, perhaps? He would never know. However, in his dour mood, and all of his understanding of books, he did what he thought was most reasonable. He took to law.

Returning to Ustalav 6 years after he left, Ramses returned under his new name, and won't bother mentioning his old one to anyone, as he wanted no association with what he considered dead-beat parents. His time thinking on it eventually instilled a deep, deep hatred of people who squandered their talents, and Ramses it quick to praise people for excellence and force them to strive for hard work. He will not suffer laziness, in any form, as a result.

Ramses took to law as well as he did to his second faith in Irori, who he respected as a Neutral, unbiased law-abider that spurned his favored traits in people. However, his deafness did prove an issue, but he circumvented it by reading what the scribe wrote as the cases proceeded, ever watchful of the shifty eyes and unnecessary hand gestures made to defend those that might be cruel and foolish.

After a particularly botched ruling, Ramses was completely outraged, especially since he knew that foul play was most certainly involved. The very idea of a person walking free through bribery might be something that infuriates him the most, and as a result Ramses wasted no time. While he knew he was no good with a weapon, he did know how law worked, and after 2 weeks of recalling previous court cases, the man was apprehended and thrown into one of the worst prisons in Ustalav.

The day after, in a fever dream, Ramses awoke to a divine radiance within his room, and clenched his fists in confusion. While his sight was poor to a degree and his hearing was long gone, the man knew what this meant somehow, and realized that Irori, Tethys, or someone, he wasn't sure, had blessed him with their divine power, and he had become an oracle. All at once the wanderlust he'd lost so many years ago came back to him and he smiled wide. He would do Irori's will, and praise both he and Tethys for their mercy. All his trials and tribulations up to that point were repaid tenfold with a chance at true capability. With his recent accomplishments, he resigned from his court and proceeded to head to the nearest pathfinder society.

Years later, after suffering the grueling training that comes with being a pathfinder, and learning to carefully read lips, they sent him to Magnimar, mostly by request of himself. His lip reading was only possible due in part to his deafness arriving, rather than being born with it, and he has since built up his understanding of many languages since. Chief among them Thassilonian, and Osiriani.

History was always one of the things that Ramses knew he wasn't particular about, but the monuments to Thassilon practically begged to be inspected. Finally, at the age of 36, Ramses would be able to put his abilities to work, and he did so with a childish glee.

Arriving at the Manor in Magnimar was simple enough, but after hearing about the cases with the tower girls, he scoffed, obviously upset about the fact that they were capable of getting away with such petty burglary so easily in this place. He was also ashamed to note that Magnimar's laws were far too lenient, and far too easy to evade, but that was a matter for later.

Without warning, and in a bit of a headstrong fashion, Ramses took to the place where they'd been hiding, and attempted to route what he'd expected was a minor problem at best. He was, unfortunately, incorrect, and as a result ended up being knocked out without warning as the burglars used his deafness against him, despite himself being careful.

Now, miffed and concerned, he can't help but wonder what the group would do next to him. Would the gods answer his prayers to be saved? Or would they route him out for his foolish waste of their power. He would wait and see.

Ramses understands any language he can easily see. When he's within 10 feet of someone in good light he doesn't need to make a check to understand someone who's speaking one of his languages, and thanks to his linguistics skill points he actually has lip reading.

His final revision covers all bases, I believe, and leaves him with a flat 10 strength, 12 intelligence, 18 charisma, 16 con, 8 wisdom, and 10 dex.

If I had to give a heads up, I want to wrap this man in Full Plate and a Tower Shield as soon as possible, and keep the others alive as best I can, as well as figure out anything that might involve a knowledge check that could get them into serious trouble otherwise. Or worse, lost.

Ah, let me correct something minor. He understands any language he can see that he *knows* so, if someone is speaking Thassilonian, then he can lipread that, but he can't lipread a language he doesn't know. It's also impossible for him to identify the language through lip reading.

Best of luck to all of us, I imagine. Todays the big day, isn't it? I'm not really sure what time it cuts off though.

I believe the cut-off was 12:00pm Pacific Time...which was about 5 minutes ago.

So, yep...good luck to everyone... :)

Thanks to everyone for their great submissions! I will now endeavor to reach my decision ASAP.

Forgot to ask, but will the posts be made here as to who made it in, or through private message?

Let's hope here ;).

Sorry for the long delay in response, but RL crept up and bit me in the behind. Thank you to everyone for your great submissions. The player whose character has been chosen has been notified via PM.

Shadow Lodge

Congrats, hate I missed a game by this particular writer...

*THREAD RESURRECTION*

So it seems like we lost our Shoanti shaman in our Shattered Star game. We're about ¾ of the way through the module, but still have quite a bit of the Crow left to explore. I'm wondering if anybody might be willing to take his place. I'd rather someone play the existing character, Standing Bear, as we've already had to integrate another player not too long ago.

HERE is his character sheet.

Because you'd be a nice person to help us out, I'd be willing to give full PFS credit for the whole part 1 of the AP. Posting has been slow during the holidays, but we're looking to pick it up a bit.

Anyone interested?

Shadow Lodge

If I were to take over the character, could I switch after the book was over? I don't have to, just curious if that would be an option, or even perhaps later on?

Heofthehills wrote:

Sure, that would be fine. I just don't want to do it in the middle of the Crow exploration. Have you played the AP before?

I might be interested! How would I be worked into the campaign though, so I can figure out backstory?

You would take over an already established character, a Shoanti shaman I linked to above. After the end of the first book, you would have the option of abandoning that character and creating your own if you liked.

That sounds doable. What is the posting rate?

Shadow Lodge

I have run the first book PFS portion, but know only the basic blocks of the story. I literally opened to the right page in the PDF and ran it to the end, after that, closed the book and never cracked one of them again.

Red Velvet Tiger wrote:

Pretty slow. Once a day.

That's a pretty cool character. I'd be interested to play it!

Ah. I, reluctantly, cede my interest in favor of the other candidates! Good luck everyone!

So who is still interested? Please respond by midnight Pacific Time on Friday, Jan. 22nd. I'll then put everyone's name into a hat and pick randomly.

Shadow Lodge

I'm still in. Going to be busy replaying Wardstone Patrol tomorrow night...

I'm bowing out. Happy gaming!

The replacement has been picked! Thank you all for your interest.
