Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Dark Archive

Howdy! First post time, and I think I'll start off with asking people about their characters trusty companions, or when they were GMing a game where one of their players did something interesting with their pets. I like classes that get animal companions (and feats and such that allow companions on normally non-companion/familiar classes). They make for interesting RP situations. So go ahead and tell a story where your pet did something cool or funny, or where something bad or odd happened because of their antics or even a tragic story of heroic Familiars sacrificing themselves to save the party.

I got a few of em, so I'll start with something amusing. A human gunslinger in the party I'm GMing decided to pick up the Eldridge Heritage feat that gets you a lvl 1 bloodline power, and he chose the Arcane bloodline, that gets him a familiar. Basically there was no other reason to do this for him other than he wanted to mess with the Kitsune Rogue character, because he picked up a fox familiar. He now has an excuse to get them mixed up when the Kitsune goes into full fox form (and the +2 reflex aint bad either).

Basically he's always picking up the Kitsune and his familiar and putting them both on his shoulders and treating them both like they're his. His fox is highly amused by this, and is always playing tricks on the poor Kitsune. It'll be even more funny once he gets to a high enough level so that his familiar can speak with animals of its kind. In any case, share your pet stories below!

The Exchange

Alfonso Agapito Abadelli, Human Druid of Taldan descent. He has a bear named Orso.

Now a little explanation, Alfonso is true neutral, but not your typical wise-druid-with-all-the-answers. He's more pulled in 4 directions of the alignment scale at any time. Going from wanting to shoot prisoners to put them out of their misery, to helping a poor man walk after his leg was lost in a farming accident. From helping the baroness with an oath, to breaking three laws with one action.

Early on, Alfonso didn't roll well for his starting gold, so he's been using Survival to gather moss off of dungeon walls and make kobold jerky. Most of the inn food he gives to Orso the bear. This has led to an in-game joke of Orso having a huge stomach and eating anything.

We are playing in the Dragon's Demand module, and have gotten to Hunclay's manor. Orso has eaten a couch, has broken into the kitchen and eaten all the food there, and has broken into the cellar food storage and eaten almost all of the food there. Often breaking down doors to do so if he smells food. All because I fail my handle animal checks.

Scarab Sages

I remember one time in a PFS game where we were pretending to be boat guides, I tried bringing my T-Rex on with me. Normally pets aren't allowed in this situation, but mine was medium sized and I passed a bluff check to convince the baddies that he was my "seeing eye dinosaur." I call him that all the time now, people hate it.

My summoner's eidolon is very willing but incredibly stupid. He also speaks with an upper class British accent. Which may or may not be related, depending on your personal prejudices.

He is now large, which is a problem as he hasn't realised he's grown, resulting in him occasionally getting stuck in small spaces and not knowing his own strength. Anyway, we were in a certain house of traps, doom and horror (no spoilers...) and it was all getting a bit tense. Eidolon was told to go outside and guard the exit. But he got bored and charged through the door - setting off assorted traps that didn't hurt him because he's made of shadows and has a reasonable miss chance. He gets increasingly bored, since he can't manage to get out of the room he's in, so he bounds about, setting off all the traps and being entirely unharmed. Handy escape route is gained and lulz start to balance out some of the squick.

(probably considerably funnier if you know the house in question...)

He also refers to succubi as "horny ladies" and hell hounds as "chav dogs".
