Recruiting a few players For Rappan Athuk - Dungeon of Graves

Recruitment

Sovereign Court

Many hundreds of years ago, the forces of good allied to destroy
the main Temple of Orcus in the ancient city of Tsar. With their
temple in ruins, the surviving high priests of this accursed demongod
fled the city with an army of enemies on their trail—an army
of heroic fighters, clerics and paladins—led by Zelkor, a powerful
wizard. The exact fate of these evil priests was then unknown, for
not only did the remnants of the followers of Orcus disappear from
all human reckoning, but so did the army of light that followed after
them disappear as well. Some said that in the eternal scales the loss
of so many good men was a fair price to pay to rid the world of so
much evil.
The evil cult, however, had not been destroyed...

Adventure Awaits!

This game will take place on rpol.net, and the players will need to purchase Realmworks Players Edition in order to participate.
This is a $10 download.

This is what I have in mind for the game:

I'm interested in opening it up to all available classes/races/alignments.

I have an idea on how this will work.

Everyone's starting level will be randomly determined. This will establish the group as either evil-heavy or good-heavy.

This ideological dominance can shift over time because when a character dies he or she gets an immediate resurrection for free, but they suffer an xp penalty. This is how the power struggle can shift within the group.

The class that you get to play will be randomized somewhat.

I have a scheme laid out for this, but the jist of it is that the player randomly determines two classes and he or she them picks one of them. However the player can multiclass into whatever they want without any further randomization.

This is a way to encourage people to play something different from their usual patterns.

Depending upon what you wind up playing, I will help with fleshing out a goal or some motivations.

If you are interested, then send me a private message on ropol.net, and we can discuss it informally.

I have the GM version and all of the versions of RA so I am a bit confused on how you are planning to run this?

GM versions and all versions of Rappan Athuk?

Or
Realmworks?

Realmworks players edition will allow players to see what I unlock and when I unlock it....such as encounter maps, character sheets, artwork, a record of where the group has been, and possibly some hints at what happened Dungeon maps etc.

The game will take place on RPOL.net, but all campaign information will be in RW. Is that your question?

In terms of Rappan Athuk, I'm allowing free Resurrections when PCs die, but they loose some XP instead of starting over with a new character after encounter ends. The challenge is to make sure that your character is strong enough to keep going due to xp loss.

If I have not answered your questions, can you be more specific?

I'm still looking for a few players.

The group that I have so far are not taking any evil alignments, so some of what I said will be moot. A group of mixed alignments can only work of course as long as people coorperate with it, and not get too deep into their definition of good/evil.

I'm looking for a few players who would like to tackle this Megadungeon with the latest technology.

I'm using RealmWorks, Campaign Cartographer, and Herolab to make it a graphically pleasing experience.

The advantages of Herolab and Realworks as great organizational and accounting tools afford more accuracy and a clear record of evolving maps, and campaign events.

Anyone interested in trying something different?

Hi Brewnen, I have been trying to play Rappan Athuk for ages, but here is my issue with applying to your game - there are too many variables for $10. Being a PbP (it is, right?), there is the unavoidable chance of it falling through (I'm not saying it will), also you risk playing a random level of a randomized choice (which may not even be the first one). You provided no details on character creation (stay buy? Roll?) nor on allowed classes/races.

I have played with similar premises before (I think moving out of your comfort zone is a good thing), but there was no monetary cost involved. Not sure if these doubts make any sense from your perspective?

Yes, I understand your concerns Albion. The pbp does tend to deteriorate. Since people would have to invest cash, I would not give up so easily on the recruitment. Even if most of the players disappear, I'll just go back into recruitment phase. As long as I have at least one interested player, I can put the game on hold until I find more. Even with no players, I can just put it on hold until I find more. And yes the $10 investment does make it harder to find willing people, but they are out there nonetheless.

I do tend to hold back on the character creation guidelines because I have them all posted in Realmworks.

To address that, I'm allowing all paizo pathfinder books, but no third party and no playtest classes. Other than that I'm trying to place as few restrictions as I can on race/class etc. Its a 20 point buy for stats. Starting gold is per guidelines in the core rulebook.

Hit points: We roll for them but reroll all 1's. Max hp at 1st level. I also allow players to purchase hit points to help round out the fact that they have to roll for them.

I recruited six players originally, but only three seem to be active, so I'm looking for more. The game is just barely off the ground atm.

Do you have any more questions?

I would be willing and interested, when would you want to start? What are the current players playing? Anything you would want players to avoid race or class wise?

Sovereign Court

The game kicked off this week. Would it be possible to transfer an abandoned character to you?

Its a level 9 Slayer.

I currently have

1Barbarian/5Hunter
9 Arcanist
8 Fighter

I recruited three other players too and they have characters, but they don't seem to be active.

Level and class are randomized, but race is wide open as long as its not third party.

If you are interested, then goto rpol.net and register. Then send me a private message or rmail and we can discuss it further from there.
