Need to cheaply increase my CL by 2.

Advice

I'm a level 16 False Priest Sorcerer right now and trying to figure out a cost efficient way to get my CL to 18 for 6th level spells for Contingency. I can cast Raise Dead using a 6th level spell slot due my archetype, so that seems like a nice thing to have ready just in case. I can't afford anything in my build feat wise, so I'm looking for maybe a spell, arcane or divine, or cheap item to do so temporarily.

So far I'm looking at buying a pony or other 2 HD animal every couple weeks and Deathknelling it for the first +1 CL, but from there I'm at a loss. Any suggestions besides just waiting one more level?

CL increases aren't cheap, but... have you seen Deathwine? It only works for one necromancy spell and eats a spell slot along with a potion, but it does work for Raise Dead. A +2 CL from that would be 300 gp, +1 CL would be 50 gp, both per spell.

IIRC there is a cracked ioun stone that gives a +1. I don't remember the price however. I also think there is a feat which raises caster level but only in one school of magic.

Pehaps spell specialisation Can do it. It Will raise your CL with 2 but it is 2 feats unless you already have spell focus (evocation)

It seems like CL increases are insanely overpriced now that I look at it. 30,000 gold for a +1 via ioun? Damn. IIRC the cheaper version is still around 20,000.

Deathwine wouldn't work as Contingency is evocation, but thank you for the thought. Spell specialization would, but it's such a bleh thing to spend a feat on, especially as I'm only really trying to "cheat" my way into something I'd otherwise just wait one level for :P. Too bad I'm not half elf as Paragon Surge would be perfect for this.

Looking through some old posts about things like this I found an interesting spell called Sharesister (odd innuendo filled name...) that lets you lend someone some CL but in order to work it would need to at least be CL 10 or 11 as it it a minute/level duration. Makes me wish we had a cleric now in the party.

Ah well, guess I'll need to wait until level 17 before I start Deathknelling ponies for power over life and death. Thanks for the suggestions though.

That might have been what I was talking about. I was going to take that as part of a very specialized build a while back.

There's also the feat Mage's Tattoo/Varisian Tatoo; that might be what you were thinking of.

Repeat after me, Bead of Karma OP. Even if you need to UMD.

Only 20k gp and lasts for long enough to all your buffs in the morning. The +1 CL Ioun Stone is Orange Prism and it'll set you back 30k, though you can another +1 CL from the Flawed Orange Prism however it will reduce your primary casting stat by -2 so use with spells that care about CL not Save DC. You are better off getting the regular Orange Prism first though as the flawed is still 25,000 gp.

Yeah. That is it. I think the feat name is Varisian Tattoo in the actual book but PFSRD had to change the name.

Holy s%+$, now there's a CL increaser worth the price. Makes me wish I had more long term buffs to cast that actually use my CL then just Contingency... all my others are coming from divine scrolls and high CL wands as I'm using False Channel and early access to Arcane bloodline's capstone via Robe of Arcane Heritage for all they are worth.

Thank you for pointing that out. I may need to re-adjust some starting wealth by level now.

EDIT: Was able to drop some miscellaneous luxury items and make room for a Bead of Karma. Thanks for that, it was just what I needed for the Contingency shenanigans and will still be incredibly useful even on the days I don't need to renew it.
