Gauging interest-kickstarter for no magic

Advice and Rules Questions

Hello, I have been involved in a year long playtest of an e6 no magic ruleset based on pathfinder. I have recreated many classes as well as developed new ones for this system. Feats and character progression have been rewritten to give a heroic feel without combat being rocket tag. The system rewards developed characters and emphasis's tactical combat rather than simply buffing and destroying. I have a wealth of various rules that fix why most people would rather not do a no magic campaign.. Fantasy meets Middle Ages. I will probably start a kickstarter to get some funding but I would like a simple interest check to see how many people I could get to support this kind of idea. It would also be supported by a publisher hopefully. I have most of the book fleshed out, but just a simple check to see if the rest of the pathfinder universe would be interested in a product like this.
Cheers,
Artemis

I think people backing this - sight unseen as a KS project is a tough prospect. My suggestions to you would be to:

- Get a website for the game going
- Host a very basic write-up of what you are trying to do, either a stripped down to the bones version of the game or maybe the 1st and 2nd levels of play. List some sample encounters.
- Will the bestiary need a re-write?
- Link a dev blog and get some feedback/following going. People need to see your competency level and they need to see that you are sincere.

If this is going to be an efile than some of the KS logistics are not so hard to work out - though commissioning art and paying for it are a point of concern. Do you have other people to help you with proofing, layout and editing or is this a one-person show?

Will the book be in print (after the KS as part of a fulfillment)? Do you have prices quoted based off of color, cover, shipping, etc.

I might back a project like this if it had some momentum and history behind it - without knowing who you are and having a sample of your work I would have to say no.

Many KS have failed, even with skilled writers behind them. In many cases it's just not managing the money or pacing of the project, in others its just logistics (can't afford to ship for free after all). Many do a one-man show and encounter rl problems.

My simple advice to you - you need to set up a network, put something out there and develop a following.

Anyway

I agree with this. One thing I have learned on the boards is that not everyone has the same idea of "no magic/low magic". Even when they want it, they still want it to advance beyond 6 levels.

Putting some sample material on a wordpress site, unless you actually prefer html coding is a good idea.

Maybe 1 or 2 of the classes, and examples of how certain parts of the game will be reworked.

I would be interested in a no-magic setting in general, but I would have to see a lot more information about it to know if it's something I would buy. I don't back Kickstarters for PDF products, so it would need to be available in print.

Artemis, I'm going to go ahead and agree with the other folks. You basically need to have a product almost complete, then present it. With RPG stuff, typically you'd be trying to Kickstart physically printing something that you've already written. Kickstarting a digital product that isn't 99% completely written is very unlikely to fund unless you're a publisher like Frog God Games or Dreamscarred Press, who have a reputation for delivering product.

Personally I'm not interested, but hopefully the advice will be useful. Products for other people are to be encouraged just as much as products for me.

Absolutely need to know more about the system - specifics - than what you've told us, first.
