What kind if eidolon would you prefer?

I was looking at the summoner class and it got me wondering what kind of eidolon people would prefer. To be clear I'm not talking mechanics wise I.e. Poison, large, sting etc I'm talking about nature. I know what I mean but I'm not really sure how to word it. What I'm after is would you prefer to summon something more like a mount or more like a friend. I know the two aren't mutually exclusive but we'll would you rather summon an eidolon you treat as a reasonably bright animal or one you treat as a sentient creature with its own likes and dislikes?

I guess the difference between your dismissing it when you go to the theatre vs you go with it to theatre and discuss the performance.

EDIT
To put it another way if you've read the manga half prince the character in that who is willing to sacrifice her levels and drop back from 90 to 1 to protect the human seeming bodyguard Npc she's in love with (part of the plot is ais developing free well) vs summoning Pikachu the pokemon to fight for your entertainment.

Would you rather summon Krypto the supermutt or Robin if that's a better way to put it.

My eidolon is modeled after the dragon from the Panzer Dragoon games. He's even named Panzer.

Probably my all-time favorite Pathfinder/3.5 PC.

I'd summon one that was a puppet to my own disassociative identity disorder (ie 'I' am the eidolon, and that footstool over there casts healing spells once in a while). I have nooo idea if my eidolon would be cool doing that (especially if my alignment includes 'Chaotic').

I would highly recommend taking a look at Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders for references. It's a gold mine for modeling summoner eidolons after characters.

Oh this isn't to help me do anything I'm just curious if given the ability to summon an eidolon whether people would model it more as a mount or a friend.

This is...a little silly, so bare with me. First pathfinder campaign I ever played in, I retired my original character about halfway through or so (made bad choices on the build, etc.) So, after speaking with the GM for a bit, he actually allowed me to play a normal Eidolon. No Summoner. I had seen in the Bestiary that, under circumstances, Eidolon can get stuck on the home plane of their summoners and most likely go mad. We had the background story be that the Eidolon was entirely humanoid looking and was summoned by a fairly young Summoner. For reasons, he unfettered her to go scout the area they were crashing in at night. She came back to find he had been killed by bandits, and since the link had been severed, she was stuck on that plane. Stated her with a 20 point buy, kept all the normal Eidolon features the same, used effective character level as Summoner level for evolution prerequisites. I'd always wanted (and still do) to play a character built around being a whirlwind of claws. She was a very calm, quiet type. But the moment a fight started, she'd charge someone down and begin the mauling. It was a ton of fun.

To more answer the question, any Summoner I've played/thought of has always had the Eidolon be just as much of a "person" as the Summoner.

Love the Serpentine. Buff the bite attack and go Vital Strike. Maybe throw in as many elemental add-ons as possible and perhaps poison. I wouldn't go any bigger than Large size, though.

Mostly as a friend and comforter to my halfling summoner who's bride was turned into a goblin snack.

background:
My pfs summoner has chronicles for we be goblins 1 & too. Rita bigbad is wearing a halfling bridal gown or veil and has pickled goblin toes in her inventory

The other one serves as a mentor/advisor for my fighter/summoner which only has 1 level of summoner for his mentor/advisor.

To the OP's question: a friend. I like friends.

A pet would be more convenient, but as it's sentient, that's... not really an option.

The series Mashin-Dōru wa Kizutsukanai, also known as Kikō Shōjo wa Kizutsukanai (Unbreakable Machine Doll) is basically a series entirely about summoners and their eidolons. It's not a perfect match but it works pretty well.
I'm not sure I'd want Yaya as an eidolon, though, no matter how powerful she is.

My summoner's eidolon is her very best monster friend. He's a shadow fox who thinks he's a dog. He's not very bright, but he tries. And speaks in a very British accent (I had a pipe on hand when he first spoke, and it seemed to fit).

I think it's fun to play both summoner and eidolon, but it depends on you and your game. And quite how you think about your eidolon - whether it's some aspect of the summoner or a creature that existed independently before your summoner wandered along. I've seen quite a few different interpretations on that.
