How many teams can participate per settlement?

We are setting this up as a marketing tool for the game to get it out there so people know about it. We urge all to record and stream this event.

Please post your teams - (Both ingame character names) I will throw them all into a spreadsheet and I will determine the match-ups.

There is no limit on teams per settlement, We want as many people as possible to attend the event.

Goblin Squad Member

Any number of people can participate. You can even have teams that aren't tied together via city. With that in mind people will end up fighting allies and friends in this tournament should the bracket lead to it.

I suggest using Challonge and making the brackets public. Its actually a really cool site, and you could put the brackets in the corner of your screen during a live stream to make the event more official.

Perfect, I was just looking for something similar to this!

Great suggestion! Would you consider being my 2v2 partner? :)

Haha, sure, that could be fun.

This sounds like a fun event! Though, with the way PvP is at tier1, the only people who shall be successful are multiclassed players.

Team 1
Phyllain
Cheatle (what ever one of his million characters he decides to bring)

Thats fine, the event is to help support the game in bringing in more players and also help players that are playing now with PVP Fundamentals. It is also going to help the game by showing some flaws with the combat system and balancing.

Covenant of the Phoenix, our mother organization, and The Empyrean Order offer to host this event on our mumble. We have a 500 capacity that can be increased to 1,000 or even 1,500 when need be.

Phyllain, if you want you can update the OP with that information, also, TEO would be willing to toss some stuff into the Pot for rewards, but I will have to confer with the leader of the Golden Scales first.

Alright. Thank you for offering up your voice chat. Would there be a way to make a room for each of the fighting teams and a room for me where i can do commentary that lets everyone listen to what i say but makes it so i cant hear them? I dont want them to not talk I just get distracted form what im saying if everyone is talking.

Goblin Squad Member

We can use operations room 1 and 2 for the teams, and I can get some permissions set up for your commentary.

Goblin Squad Member

Thank you.

Great idea - working on some prices from the Emerald Lodge.

Timing might be difficult for Europeans - but I will encourange members from here to participate.

I know the timing is trash for euros but it's on Saturday so hopefully they can still try and attend.

Also thanks for your support in the event!

The Emerald Spire is a relatively central and neutral location that might make a good arena hex.

Goblin Squad Member

The problem with Emerald Spire is that it spawns mobs, have hilly terrain, and that the spire in the back ground can cause lag. I talked to slammy already, the hex north of Iron Gauntlet, in their inner six might be best.

It is low lands, not so hilly, not a huge amount of mob spawns, and a free pvp window.

Yes - you want free space. This sounds to me like one of the best possible places. Just tell visitors to stop gathering if the local coal degrades.

I want to join the tournament, but 7pm EST is a terrible time.

Will the tourneys be timed? Or is it just 'till death?'

Is it possible to have 2 time slots? One at the stated time and one later, for people who can't make the first time?

Are you in Western Canada? 7pm EST is pretty typical for an event including all timezones. Perhaps 8 or 9PM would be better?

Yes. Well, MST, to be precise. I have two kids though, and usually can't get on until after they are in bed, which would be more like 10 or 11 EST.

Maybe I will just show up when I can and see if I can organize some PUG matches?

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

7 PM EST is midnight UK and likely as late as it gets if you want to encourage Europeans to join as well. We can always do one at a European friendly time as well.

Poor Dazyk, I'll send one of my cute goblin minions to watch them; they're sweet peas. I have a lot of respect for daddy gamers. I hope you can make it!

I won't be participating because I wouldn't want a team to have an advantage.

I love your attitude! Now I can't HELP but challenge you to a 1v1! Time and place of your choosing. ;)

Goblin Squad Member

Aww, sad days. Tig has duty so can't make it :(. I expect to see lots of good footage and great fights! GL to everyone signing up!

Goblin Squad Member

:( I'm out of town gaming on Saturday, but I'd be happy to practice before/after.

Goblin Squad Member

Well it looks like cheatle and I may just win by default if no one else is brave enough to face us in combat. I wonder what prize we will choose.

Goblin Squad Member

There will be others, I'm sure.

Have you considered having a 1,000 XP weight class?

How would you verify that? (I've thought of a way, but am curious about your answer).

Goblin Squad Member

I have posted notice of this tourney on the Notice Board at Keeper's Pass. I hope you have a good showing. Unfortunately, my own tabletop game overlaps this, otherwise I would try a hand at it.

Have the organizer assign a character name shortly before the event.

It doesn't take much to be viable in pvp right now. A 1000 exp character could go up agaisnt pvp characters with full exp right now And still have a good chance with the right skills.

For that reason, I will not be making a separate bracket

Dazyk it will be done when the fights are over, you can post your team and if you can't make it that's fine.

We will host more of these tourneys so if there is a pitiful show up then we will consider a different time for the next.

The game isn't ready for marketing. I think this notion is a mistake.

You'll just be presenting an unfinished/unpolished game (basically still in Alpha) to a wider audience and more criticism then it probably deserves at this point.

Goblin Squad Member

No point in a 1k exp weight class everyone on the server has the same exp atm.

@doc to be honest i dont give a damn about marketing i just want to have some fun.

Yeah, T2 stuff is still a ways out, and that will cause a lot of things to change.

Grand Lodge

Gale Windswept and Nihimon Vhane'Sylvan will be attending the Golgathan Prom together.

(ooc: could we have a standby alt for everybody to flag themselves off of, so the combat starts with all contestants flagged as attackers?)

Most definitely we will have an alt to flag on, we also thinking about picking a hex with open pvp to potentially just avoid that. But with the way targeting in the game is now we are probably all better off being red for the fights for tab targeting.

Looking forward to finally fighting the great spitfire!
I still have not found myself a partner unfortunately. When I do, I'll post my prom date

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

I'm open to throw myself into the competition seeing that Team 1 is made from Cheatle and Phyllain I'm open to whatever weird combination is possible

Possible partners:
Any other settlement leader or well known settlement representative - Bluddwolf, Bringslide, Duffy, Fanndis (in alphabetical orde)
Someone who thinks he can win even solo - Slammy, ?
Gatherers unite - Midnight, ?
Anyone else

About Thod:
He is a gatherer first - his next XP is slated for forrester 7 (he is already a scavenger 7).
He wears heavy armour+2 (Unbreakable) and has a close combat weapon +1 with a few attacks at that level
He might have 2000-5000XP to further optimize his fighting for the competition before spending XP on miner or dowser (currently 3)
A lot of monster hunting experience - PvP experience close to none (Baron's Folly) but someone who can learn - albeit this will mean a steep learning curve / short time to learn

Happy to just embrace the Olympic Spirit (being part is all) but also happy to do my best being competitive - but that means I need a better partner as myself.

Then just do your thing. I'm just saying I don't think it is a good idea to do tons of streaming and make videos to send out to people and say "check this out" - cause the game isn't ready for that yet no matter how hopeful we are that it will be soon.

I am not sure if you noticed, but the player base is kind of dwindling for an MMORPG. Even if its still in Alpha. I still understand what your saying. People still have not even heard of this game. Just trying to bring interest, maybe even people to follow the game and wait until its ready to purchase.

I respect the intent. I just don't think it will help, maybe even hurt.

Don't get me wrong, I want this game very much to succeed, sincerely.

Look at it this way:
You just don't see unfinished cars sitting in the Porsche Dealership showroom.

My feeling is if you put a lot of videos out there for people to see, they're just as likely to say hey look at this video of Black Desert.

The PvP combat isn't even the promotional tool in my opinion, it's the context in which the PvP occurs, vis-a-vis the settlement conflict and such.

Believe me, I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but I've seen this community try to do outreach and hype before on MMORPG and it was a mess and IMHO didn't do the game or dev team any favors.

Personally, I think blog posts talking about the political stuff and how PvP and War of Towers feeds into that or guides it might be more useful right now. That's the unique selling point of PFO.

Isn't war of towers useless ATM- Especially with the NAP? No point in having towers. It is used by non hostile players as an excuse for non-consensual PVP. Until player husks come into game I will still consider every PVP encounter to be meaningless PVP. People Want DRAMA, with player husks becomes more Risk and you know what more risk brings? DRAMA.

I do agree with you on the via vs via settlement being promotional but until there is more risk I feel as if that is moot.
A 2v2 Tourny should bring some good attention to the game right before we have player husks come into the game.

Goblin Squad Member

Husks may be in after the maintenance today, so that should change a few things and the NAP expires today as well for any inactive settlements.
