Can a Gnome Ride a Wolf?

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

I have a PC Gnome Druid I'm helping a friend build for a Kingmaker game, (though I'm thinking of using a similar build for a PFS character.
He is going wolf shaman with a wolf animal companion. Since he is a gnome (small) and wolves are considered medium size, if he has its tricks and general purpose set for mounted combat stuff, and has the mounted combat feat, could a gnome ride a wolf? If its legal I'm totally gonna make a PFS character for it.

Small characters can ride medium mounts with no problem.

You don't even need Mounted Combat.

Dark Archive

No need for Mounted Combat but but you will still need the Ride skill regardless. Lots of it if you intend to ride it into battle.

Wolves are even explicitly allowed as mounts for small cavaliers. It's legal.

With the feat Undersized Mount, even humans can ride wolves. And gnomes can ride hawks.

Humans can ride wolves anyway, if the wolf is strong enough to carry them. They just get a penalty on Ride checks:

"Normal: Typically a mount suited for you is at least one size category larger than you."

"If you attempt to ride a creature that is ill suited as a mount, you take a –5 penalty on your Ride checks."
