Is There A Cooldown On Joining A New Company?

Pathfinder Online

Title says it all.

Say there are two companies and two settlements, Companies A/B and Settlements 1/2. Company A is in Settlement #1, and Company B is in Settlement #2.

Say I leave Company A and join Company B, thus joining Settlement #2 in the process. Is there a cooldown? Can I immediately start capturing towers?

In Alpha and so far in EE, I have personally witnessed folks who Applied and were Accepted into our Company, but didn't help us gain Tower Capture Points afterwards.

I don't know if this is intentional.

I think there isn't supposed to be but functionally there appears to be.

This makes me wonder if there is some batch processing that happens during DT that fixes this. Did the players find the problem only persisted until downtime?

I heard that when this happens it is fixed after server reset. Have you noticed otherwise?

Yes. And I believe that is the case, although confirmation would be nice.

The same is true the other way around: a newbie was afk at another settlement's core six tower, gathering unwanted points for our company. He was kicked from the company, but could still collect points for it. He was eventually killed and respawned outside the tower, still afk.

Server downtime seems to be the time when these issues are updated...

So the cooldown will probably be removed eventually?

I repeat my question: Do we have reason to believe the cooldown is a temporary and unwanted thing, and that ultimately (or for some time in the future but still during the EE) joining and leaving settlements will be quick and easy?

I don't think so. Eventually we'll be able to be in multiple companies, but only one sponsored company, and changing companies (I think) will always involve a cooldown. Maybe anything else would offer too many possibilities for exploit?

I think the reason no one replied to your original question is because we have no real reason to believe anything either way.

In Alpha, I tried to bring this to Goblinworks' attention by pointing out that it would hamper the ability of Companies to attract new Members and make them immediately useful.

I can easily imagine it being worthwhile to keep the cooldown for folks who just left some other Company, but I can also imagine good reasons to do away with it. As yet, I'm not aware of any dev statement that would give us insight into what they think about it.

The easier it is to change companies, the less valuable the feud system is and the less important company reputation becomes.

This! If we spend influence feuding a company and they all shift to a new company an hour later, it will be pretty disheartening unless teh feud is attached to the character.
