Fire forged bullets in PFS

I've been searching around for anything about fire forged bullets for gunslingers. I understand you can use special materials for alchemical cartridges. Weapon blanches on the other hand cant be used.

My question is since you need fire to "activate" fire forged items (full round on a campfire or flame spell) is it possible to prepare a set of fire forged bullets before it gets loaded in an alchemical cartridge BEFORE buying from npcs or are you stuck with eating a fireball before you can use your fire forged bullets with the damage bonus?

You can activate the bullets just like any other fire forged item. You can take a lot of fire damage, or stick it in a fire for a minute. Now, sticking an alchemical cartridge in a fire is going to have other repercussions...but them's the breaks.

Also, the fire forged only stays active for 2 rounds from being subjected to a fire...so unless you're in the store in the middle of combat with a merchant throwing bullets in his fireplace I think you're stuck on this one.

Hmm. I guess I didn't include those in my list of Firearm Ammunition for PFS.

Cost format should be the same for both frost- and fire-forged steel in relation to other special materials.

Bullets would cost 1gp, 6sp with Gunsmithing (16gp without).

Cartridges would cost 13gp, 5sp with Gunsmithing (27gp without).

I think cartridges of fire-forged steel would be relatively useless, since it takes the same sort of "activation" that weapon blanches require, and those were ruled a "No" by Campaign Leadership.

Cartridges of frost-forged steel, on the other hand, might be worth it.

Thanks. I didnt think the 2 round duration was immediately after. I thought it would be similar to the pearls of power where you "activate" them then use at anytime.

I guess its still ok to have a few fire forged cartridges and just use them right after getting hit by fire spells.

That cleared this up, thanks again.

Not sure what you mean by this part. A pearl of power takes a standard action to activate, and it immediately reprepares your already spent spell. There is no delay between activation and its effect.

This seemingly normal pearl of average size and luster is a potent aid to all spellcasters who prepare spells. Once per day on command, a pearl of power enables the possessor to recall any one spell that she had prepared and then cast that day. The spell is then prepared again, just as if it had not been cast. The spell must be of a particular level, depending on the pearl. Different pearls exist for recalling one spell per day of each level from 1st through 9th and for the recall of two spells per day (each of a different level, 6th or lower).

I believe Sonea was more thinking along the lines of fire-forged steel magically "storing" the heat from a flame, rather than just mechanically "getting hot".
