Amulet of Mighty Fists + Brilliant Energy

Rules Questions

Okay, so was thinking of ways to get more reliable sneak attacks on my dual wielding unarmed fighting ninja and went "Duh, if heavy armor targets are the problem, get Brilliant Energy. Bypass their shields and armor, while sneak attacking in surprise rounds to kill their Dex based touch AC."

But then I realized, Brilliant Energy can't be turned off. So what happens when an unarmed fighter with an Amulet of Mighty Fists with Brilliant Energy puts it on?

Do we say they are selective enough to still be able to pick things up? Or do their gloves/boots/rings just fall through their bodies and hit the floor?

Heh, assuming the gear goes BE and doesn't fall off but your hands still pass through non-living matter, could a character even take the amulet off if their hands just pass through it?

And considering that by the RAW, any part of your body can be used to attack with, would you basically become completely ethereal (to non-living matter)?

According to the RAW, you would fall through the earth to its core, presumably dying at some point of the heat.

Which makes it the ultimate assassination weapon.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Just let it do what it does -- allow for attacks to bypass armor and shields on the attacks -- instead of trying to extrapolate from ridiculous interpretations of RAW.

If it made your body ethereal wouldn't that make the amulet itself fall of?

On a helpful note are unarmed strikes considered weapons when you are not using them as such?

This.

Thematically, I'd say your fists/feet/whatever are perfectly normal until you strike with them, at which point the striking portion briefly flashes with energy and passes through armour. Any clothing worn on the striking part is also energized. The effect is short-lived and can't energize your entire body at the same time so no passing through barriers.

A simular note would be the awkwardness of the flaming enchantment. I think Amulet of Mighty Fists only affects the weaponized parts of your body, when they are weaponized.

Otherwise, standard action to activate flaming every combat, unless you want to be a living torch that says in a dark cavern "Here I am evil monsters!" O.o

That could be very useful for grappling.

+1

You could even say you are also following RAW by not making you fall to the core of the planet.

Kinda feel like this conversation spawned because of this recent thread... for anyone looking for more info, read through it.
