Echoes of the Everwar Question

According to the product description, Echoes of Everwar has 4 parts, and part 4 must be done last. Does this mean I have to have played parts 1-3 to play part 4?

My understanding (though I've only played part 1 so far), was that once you play part 4, your character may not later play parts 1-3.

You can play part 4 without having done the others, but part 4 references events and items from parts 1-3 and there are benefits if you have done them.
