Brawler's Flurry wrote:

Brawler's Flurry (Ex): Starting at 2nd level, a brawler can make a brawler's flurry as a full-attack action. When doing so, a brawler has the Two-Weapon Fighting feat when attacking with any combination of unarmed strikes, weapons from the close fighter weapon group, or weapons with the "monk" special feature. She does not need to use two different weapons to use this ability.
Brawler Weapon and Armor Proficiencies wrote:

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A brawler is proficient with all simple weapons plus the handaxe, short sword, and weapons from the close fighter weapon group. She is proficient with light armor, but not with shields.
Expanded Weapon Group wrote:

Close: bayonet, brass knuckles, cestus, dan bong, emei piercer, fighting fan, gauntlet, heavy shield, iron brush, light shield, madu, mere club, punching dagger, sap, scizore, spiked armor, spiked gauntlet, spiked shield, tekko-kagi, tonfa, unarmed strike, wooden stake, and wushu dart

Monk: bo staff, brass knuckles, butterfly sword, cestus, dan bong, double chained kama, double chicken saber, emei piercer, fighting fan, jutte, kama, kusarigama, kyoketsu shoge, lungshuan tamo, monk's spade, nine-ring broadsword, nine-section whip, nunchaku, quarterstaff, rope dart, sai, sansetsukon, seven-branched sword, shang gou, shuriken, siangham, tiger fork, tonfa, tri-point double-edged sword, unarmed strike, urumi, wushu dart

So a Brawler Flurries with nunchaku or sai or nine-ring broadsword...and takes a -6 to hit?

-2 for Flurry, -4 for non-proficiency.

Are monk weapons considered close? Is there something else?

Scarab Sages

A brawler can flurry with a monk weapon, but is not automatically proficient in it. If you plan on using a monk weapon, a dip in Unarmed Fighter is not not a terrible idea.

Or in Master of Many Styles Monk or some other nice Monk Archetype.

Yeah, but Monk is not proficient in all monk weapons. Unarmed fighter is, grants a free style feat, and doesn't lower BAB.

And gets ALL monk weapons. You want to flurry with a Seven-branched sword, unarmed fighter is the way to go.

Shadow Lodge

yeah I still find that proficiency thing so puzzling...
