Kharkosh has two levers in his lair to move the maze turntables, and sees them move when the PCs enter the level. I have been thinking about having him move the levers back to the neutral position while the party is on the level. I won't have the levers move while the PCs are in one of the turntables.

Would this be an evil GM thing to do?

It's a pretty interesting idea. I don't think Klarkosh is scared of them enough to bother, but it would up the mystery. Just make sure you are keeping track of where all the levers are, what paths that makes available, and that the puzzle is still solvable with the available levers. When I ran it, it was tricky enough to keep the players occupied long enough to focus on letting me make the needed changes when only they pulled a lever.
