If they are explicitly wondrous items (I saw two of those) don't feel bad about reporting them - they failed to adhere to rules and will be disqualified anyway.

Okay, I've seen a couple that have gone so far as to even list Craft Wondrous Item in the construction requirements.

Still, sucks to have to do it. -_-

Item 1) Formatted.
Item 2) No attempt at formatting.

Hey, that's pretty clever.

Whew. Magic items that mess with time are a razor's edge. When they pull it off, it's amazing. When they don't...

Don't lose heart -- there are some really nice items in there.

Of course, you'll only see them pitted against each other...

So my overall impression so far is that doing something fairly simple and useful in a flavorful way is the best use of this design space.

I've seen a few items I've liked. Elegant, but not mindblowing. Looking forward to something that's both.

Also, I've seen a few +X spiked armor/shield items. The plus is to the item as armor, not the spikes, right? Does it have to be specified? I want to be sure I'm giving these items justice.

Dedicated Voter Season 8

I'm seeing a bunch of resource using items (ki, panache, bardic music) that for some odd reason are explicitly only useful to/ usable by one of the classes that grants that resource. It feels like people went out of their way to limit who could use the item for no reason. I don't get it.

Or they were attempting to venture into a new design space by designing items for the new classes.

First paired rings I actually quite like.

I've been forgiving terrible formatting on good design. If the item is unplayable, I'm gonna punt it no matter how structured it is.

Star Voter Season 8

Think that's my favourite staff so far.

Blarg. Just saw an item very similar to my item. I happen to think my item is better (of course I'm biased ;) ) but it also means the core idea isn't unique which probably means it isn't superstar for either of us. :P

I'll admit I have a soft spot for entries that earnestly break professionalism...at least when they're well written and punctuated.

For instance, last year's apology entry was adorable.

Voting has shown me how much of the advice about wondrous items applies to this design space.I hope people didn't disregard the previous years' advice because they thought it wasn't apropos.

To me, if I see a badly formatted item, I don't bother reading it unless the design on the other item is also terrible. If an author doesn't take the time to follow the most basic contest rules, using the template provided, then they don't deserve an up-vote.

There's a certain item that fits this description that I've seen three times already and it makes me smile every time.

I don't vote for it, but I feel bad about not voting for it.

Several did, or they hadn't bothered to read the advice in the first place.

Badly overpriced item vs badly underpriced item.... drink.

Luckily, I find that poor formatting and poor design seem to go hand-in-hand, so my job is easy.

And, ugh, so much bad formatting.

I'm in the same boat. The names were even extremely similar.

I think part of this is the short timetable -- less opportunity to realize you're mining a common trope.

I read everything but favor items that follow the template and formatting and such unless they are just not up to par, design wise, or the badly formatted item is amazing.

I'm all for a little descriptive text, but c'mon! Get to the point! At 290 words the item better be awesome, not just a wall of unimportant backstory...

I've only found 3 items so far to get me excited out of what must be getting close to 100 items viewed since I'm past the 50 votes for Star. And my ideas-to-steal list has only reached 11. I'm feeling better about my chances.

Lots of items showing that their authors have good ideas but really need editorial oversight and better system mastery to execute those ideas in decent way.
