These are very unfortunate line breaks. This item's creator must have used some sort of text program to write the item and didn't preview before posting. If they could have only used their own item.

Pro tip: do a google search on your item's name and some of the basics of its theme. If you're not confident in this make sure you have a bunch of fellow geeks look at your stuff a.k.a. a pit crew.

Oh, I Googled all over the place using several key terms... didn't find anything referencing it in current media or culture. That does nothing to assuage my paranoia.

Humm you are harsher than I am then. I would rather see some small mistakes than up-vote a mediocre item simply because it followed the template better. Editing can be taught, creativity is harder.

This all goes out the window of course if no attempt was made to use the format or if vital information such as the construction requirements are missing.

True, but after 8 years of this, I am thinking that editing has become a lost art. Also, as a freelancer I know that poorly edited material will not get published and will diminish your chances for repeat business.

I certainly look askance at those that completely failed to provide any of the required formatting, but I'm willing to overlook mistakes if the person has put together a creative and compelling item.

Voting a vanilla item just because it has perfect formatting over a really exciting item with design and formatting mistakes is, in itself, a mistake.

I would hate for a superstar item to be down voted because of something silly, like capitulation or using . in rather then , for the price.

Last year a buddy of mine had a totally superstar idea and so did the guy who made the top 32 that did the bizzaro version of his item. There were minor differences but my buddy didn't make it past the cull because he didn't format correctly.

Details matter. I've published stuff and gotten lambasted for errors, in a review. Generally the down side of nerdy hobbies is nerd rage.

I personally will go with rule of cool sometimes but formatting can be a tie breaker in my more tired less genial moments.

This is why formatting is lower on my list. I'll use it to determine who, among two comparatively equal concepts, is the better author. If perfect formatting were a requirement for writing, then there would be no need for editors.

Formatting definitely matters. A few (one or two at this word count) small mistakes can be forgiven. But if it is riddled with mistakes...I don't really care how awesome your idea is. I can't get to the idea (I can but I'm making a point) because the mistakes yell way to loudly.

Like this actually.

I've made my share of formatting mistakes and have had kindly editors remind me...but it definitely gets noticed at a professional level.
