Right, back to it!
First up: new item, and the most meta thing I've seen so far.

I think Mamaursula is right. Some of you crankypants need a break.
I ran my Pathfinder game today. When I pick up voting again later tomorrow, I'll be refreshed and ready for a new round of pain.
And yes, for whoever mentioned it, Skull & Shackles is terrific. Yarr!

I don't think I really understood the difference between "flavorful item" and "item with needless backstory" until voting in this contest.
NOPE, THAT'S GROSS
ETA: I accidentally voted for it, that's how gross it was

My Emerald Spire game keeps getting cancelled! :(
But I did some shopping (voted while wife drove), saw a few movies (voted during pre-show), and attended the work Holiday Party (voted when possible).

Running my game yesterday really helped refresh me too.
And also taught me a valuable lesson about designing encounters while keeping in mind the area of effect of the three spells everyone keeps using.
I'm very sure beast shape II will give you the same effect at one tenth the cost!
Thomas LeBlanc wrote: Rusty Ironpants wrote: oops. that special material does not exist in this game! Would it happen to be the one that is made of [redacted due to IP concerns]? Yup. most likely the same one.
Please make sure your items price is more than the base price for its enhancement bonus.
No, no, no. Just because It's the perfect weapon for my character does not make it a Superstar item. In fact, I will go so far as to say that because it's a must have item for that character, it's not a Superstar item.
Every time I read something that says "Why do so many people do X!" I instinctively wonder if I made a similar mistake in formatting/description.
I'm also really hoping to see my own item soon, so I can check.
I do have one thing I'd like to mention, since words are a wonderful thing I enjoy. This is just a general rule I'd like everyone to follow.
If you're going to use an archaic term for something, look it up first and make sure you're using it properly.
Just got my first filigree item ^^

I confess, I vote for ideas, and not price, format, or sometimes execution. If you have a great concept and can sell it a bit, I vote for it. If you have a good idea vs. +X and a SIAC, I vote for you. If your opponent is a staff (and nothing else), I vote for you. I guess I'm too positive for this thread, but I'm Canadian...
Woot! Saw my item. Now to see if it survives the culling.

EVERYONE STOP VOTING!
Get up, go walk around, shake it off! This is for fun and we're all here to have a good time! I know I'm guilty of getting bogged down too.
Go back to your keeper list, find something you really liked and marvel at it.
Get a drink, watch a holiday show, hug your SO/child/pet/pillow and get some air.
We'll reconvene later!
Good Job everyone!
I did as I was told.
I wrapped presents for 4 hours and I am now sitting back and catching up with the threads before my next voting stint.
23 pressies all wrapped, tied, bow affixed, name tags affixed with teaser clues and messages for all my loved ones. I love this time of year (maybe because I am old, look like Santa and love milk and cookies too!)
I made myself a black cherry chocolate from Twinings company. And then added a measure of Baileys Irish Cream to it! It's like drinking an alco-ho-ho-ho-lic black forest gateau and very chocolaty too :P
I feel really decadent right now and able to face all the worst of the items all over again and smile through the lot.
*slurp*
*melt* Yum!

Wait till they meet the needle man on the beach - my brave adventurers all ran away screaming "like liddle gurlies". ;)
This item sure is a gas!
Paired up against an item I've already seen, and repeatedly downvoted because template.
Psst! You forgot the risky part.
I'm just not ever going to vote for an item with that name. Ever.
If you would have asked me if I would vote for a hairnets two days ago I would have laughed, buuuuuut...
Yeah, I think I'll leave 90% of my item to GM fiat. Have fun, rules lawyers!
Skull and shackles had so many great magical weapons that perfectly fit the theme, I am seeing more and more evidence that people's imaginations got deeply hooked by that and they came up with great skull and shackles themed items, way to go creatives!
Ring that essentially does nothing vs weapon that basically does everything.
item history vs item history
winner, the one that was at least Pathfinder based...
Ok I thought the 2 entries with 8 word names were long, I stand corrected.
Blood Item versus Fart Item
Comic book vs video game
What IP infringement will win!
So many "I just want to tell a story." items.

My jaw is HITTING THE FLOOR this morning. I'm seeing a lot of new items and I am insanely impressed with what I'm seeing!!!
I haven't seen a new item in the last 50 pairs...
I can't believe I just voted for that item despite the name. What's wrong with me?

Just out of curiosity, who else here, when they see an awesome item with perfect template format, silently thinks "Please be Anthony Adams' item" before hitting up-vote?
Semi-overpowered DARK DARK DARKETY DARK-DARK Item.
vs...
Something with a real-world name but makes perfect sense and is well-formatted and easy to read.
{EDIT} *Raises Hand*
Anyone else looking forward to the cull?
The cull?
Is that when they prune the bottom-most contenders out?
Oh, this is a pretty cool item, or at least it's better than the untemplated item with a vague effect opposite it. It's especially nice because it clearly evokes the flavor of X without deliberately saying...oh, nope, there it is, final paragraph smashing you in the face with what it really is. Now I want to vote against the obviously better item just because of that stupid explanation.
David S. McCrae wrote: The cull? Is that when they prune the bottom-most contenders out? Yes. My guess is that it will be the end of this week or early next week, but I'm ready for it now. There are a number of items that I'd rather quit seeing.
Ugh! Even worse decision. Dumb item I have seen a half dozen times that does the same thing as at least 4 other items and is the worst implementation of the effect, or really cool new item I haven't seen before that thought it was ok to totally invent new spells. Ugh, and the spells are even templated correctly. Why do people make it so hard for me to vote for them?

Especially double for the unformatted items. Seeing items without the proper templating is a critical eyesore when placed next to an item with all the pieces in place. It's no contest.

The sad thing is—as based on your voter tags you are well aware but I might as well post this for the newbies—some of those items will still be there after the cull.

It's So Meta, Even This Acronym?
[creature]mail vs. [creature]mail
I'd love to see like a cull per five days, but I'm an awful person.
Great idea but mispelled! Did autocorrect strike again?!
The same item six pairs in a row. Okay, time to go back to writing and clear my head.
