Voted just because your item is related to one of the cooler gods and now I'm regretting not submitting mine.
Be careful - that word means something probably un-publishable in another language
Lots of staffs whose appearance is indicative of what they do in some cool way, wish more items in general had done that.
I'm getting the overall impression that everyone who submitted a staff was trying extra hard. Most are perfectly formatted, evocatively written, free of errors, etc. Way more so than for any other category I've noticed so far.
ETA: By which I mean that such things seem to appear in way higher proportion in that category, not that there aren't equally well-written etc. weapons, rods, shields, armors and rings.
I've seen some really poorly conceived staves
Interesting, Naruto Item vs League of Legends Item
An armor that would be almost perfect in theme for a Druid. Except for the fact that he is not allowed to wear it by RAW :-(
Still gets my vote over the weapon of "I will correct the martial-caster imbalance by force"
My first viewed twice item. It still is as bad as the first time but, this time, the opposition is interesting (if far from perfect) so I can downvote it :-)
People do have something about facial features though (face, mouth, eyes everywhere).
Line 4: That item is awesome.
Line 5: Well that is a bit much.
Line 6: Really dude, you ran out of value last line but your flavor text is cool so whatever.
Line 7: OH COME ON!
Been binge voting, seen a bunch of items like 8 times each - and still haven't stumbled upon mine.
Can't imagine why it could be DQd...
I don't think I saw my item last year until after reaching dedicated voter, so don't worry if you haven't seen yours. I haven't seen mine either.
How to say I change into a treant without actually saying it :-/
If a quite unimpressive item comes three times in not that many pairings, does it fall under the umbrella of cursed items ?
Upvoted though :-/
And another weapon trying to up the martial by nerfing the caster into oblivion :-(

I feel like whenever I see an item over 275 words that item is unadvanceable. Something about butting up against the hard limit seems to make an item less good.

I'm also losing hope that I'd ever see my item. I have an idea what might lead it to be disqualified, but that would be a misunderstanding. In any case, I hope there's a way to recover it after the voting process, as I haven't saved the text...

Yeah, and I know there are a few items out there aside from mine that I just haven't run into yet. That gives me hope.

587 uniques so far for you? Nice! I was mentally guessing we had about 500 uniques, I see I need to raise that bar. :D

Typo vs. Typo
WHO WILL WIN?!?!?

600 items and counting! :)
hehe I keep finding the same armor, I think that it is the 7th time that it has showed up for me (it's also not that bad so voted for it more than half of the times)
I keep seeing the same staff again and again. It's only average at best, but it has always been paired with some of the worst items I've seen this year, so I have always voted for it.

I've now seen multiple items where the item name is not the name of the item -- I don't think I saw that at all last year.
Murray K Dahm wrote: Be careful - that word means something probably un-publishable in another language In a maternal fashion? There's an item that I needed to look a word up. Turns out they had it right, not me.
A specific magic weapon does not "function as" a +1 etc. etc. A specific magic weapon IS a +1 etc. etc. that also does other stuff. Because, see, it is actually that weapon, not something else that also works like a weapon. A rod or staff might "function as," because they are primarily not weapons. The only exception for a weapon I can think of would be something like, "the fooblade is a +1 longsword but when the wielder is standing in molasses, the fooblade instead functions as a +3 treacling burst longsword."
Niggle: getting tired of seeing "as per" a lot. The phrase is not incorrect, but it is a redundant one.
I point these things out because when you're working with a limited word count, avoiding unnecessary words ("is" instead of "functions as" or "as" instead of "as per") is worth trying to do.
I regret not inventing a weapon that bursts treacle now.

It's more that people are looking for a unique niche that their item could fill: it's actually proven to be a valid tactic in the past, as it helped me get past the first round. Unfortunately, with a thousand or so people, there's a chance of another person having the same idea.
I am Goot's staff, his rod, his ring, his weapon yeesh we get it.
So, ghost item vs. anti-ghost item. I prefer the ghost item.
Honey. Huh. Okay.
Misnamed armor vs. weapon that should be a different weapon. Misnamed it is.
Same misnamed armor vs. a mis-formatted (but rather nice) ring. And now you fall, oh misnamed armor.

Bah. Needs more filigree.
Ok so I'm eventually going to do a treasure table with the best items and some of the cursed ones
Three uses per day vs three uses per day. Both quite neat actually.
95% of the time I end up voting for the lesser of two evils, ah democracy!
Clunky in execution versus clunky in execution. Both items had some neat idea behind them, though.
Someone changed name of the item in the middle of writing and forget to update the text?
This item uses an idea that I had but adds a twist I haven't thought of. Neat.
Item probably written by non-American.

Pro tip#3 When I read your item's name I should not be expecting a description of a windowless van.

A lot of these items have the potential to be really good items. The problem seems to be that nobody is near any of the authors to point out what's good or bad with these items, where to fix grammar, terminology, syntax, etc. I really hate to vote against a great idea only because the author missed a small detail that fudges the whole thing, while the other item is a boring +1 weapon with a spell effect attached to it but as-written works.
I... I like the effect.... but oh that's some really unfortunate phallic imagery. *bites lip*
